    Tell me about who you are and what your spectrum might look like ^_^ ALSO, the description is full of lots of fun links. Like the links to the 2nd channel vid on Zedsexual Vs Allosexual, a link to my book that has all these awesome illustrations and info, a link to echo's channel, a link to Annie's channel, a link to Zach's music, AND MORE! I’m J, and I am doubting if I am non-Binary or a boy, so i think it might be a bit of a triangle with purple at the top and blue and green at the bottoms, because i think green stands for non-binaryness and purple for my femininity ^^ and I am Pansexual, but sometimes I feel very asexual, so that’d be in there too :D

    • @macawesomebird3383
      @macawesomebird3383 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm a girl. But a 'tomboy.'
      I'm asexual / biromantic and my friends are mostly a mix of bisexual and heterosexual.
      My spectrum would be a triangle with a tiny bit of blue at the top (because of the tomboy-ness), then a box with blue, purple and pink (for biromantic), then a box with purple, grey, white and black (for asexuality) and finally a box with pink (for my gender). I'm more attracted to females and non-binaries rather than females and men though.

      Ash Hardell Hi! Im pan and gender identity doesn't really mean anything to me, Im born in the F box but you knowww... My spectrum could be a circle. Maybeeee ❤️💛💚💙💜

      I'm a cis female, definitely a tomboy. I always wished I was a boy but unfortunately I'm not. I don't really pick a label for my sexuality, I just like people that are cool, and if there's feelings then maybe I pursue it, maybe not.

    I’m so glad you mentioned spectrums in relationship to disability, because even among the same disability, things can look very different. For example, I have Spina Bifida. So does Andrea Lausell (I may be spelling it wrong), who is a TH-camr, check out her channel. Our disability presents itself differently in both of us.She walks and has many symptoms and disabilities you can’t see. I have Spina Bifida and am a paraplegic wheelchair user, I also have symptoms you can’t see. But we both have Spina Bifida.

    The fact that you two mentioned Demisexuality so casually made me so happy? As a Demi Person myself, people usually decide to ignore my sexuality and the fact that you talked about it made me really happy, but I do feel romance, I like dates and just making people feel good, but I don't feel sexual attraction to many people, and it's usually with Guys (I'm a guy as well) I used to just go with "Queer/Gay" but they never really felt nice, but Demisexuality (once I learned about it) it fit me so well, and now it just makes me way happier.

    It is so annoying for me when the people around me put me down with their "normal" attitudes. I loved your slam poetry about becoming pretty to be socially acceptable and it just related to my heart so much. I've always liked it when my friends said I'm like a "little brother" or "just like a guy" or treat me like a dude. Since the past two years I've been contemplating whether I'm gay or not (I'm bisexual and panromantic lol) I have a new gender dysphoria where I don't feel like a girl but I don't hate being one. (Demigirl and transmasculine) but I also feel I might be non-binary and I just am not ready to come out. (Cuz my country is kind of not catching on with "all types of sexualities and gender" yet so........ it's ILLEGAL for now.)

      @@noenoenoen Yeah, I don't think it's for everyone. I'm back to where I was which is fine, I've been looking through a lot of Ash's other videos because I've been finding them quite interesting but I'm leaving this whole spectrum stuff alone. I just don't want it floating around in my head, I can't quite remember all terms in this video, but I was like ok well if I meet partner A trait C D E will configure one way but partner B trait C D E will configure another way and some of those are polar opposite things. That's not just me pretending to be something I'm not for someone, its something about me reflected in all my interactions with people (to a much lesser degree and momentary).
      I think I came to a level of understanding non-binary people I'm comfortable with. Unless somehow my next partner happens to be non-binary which is doubtful as I don't think they're too common in my age bracket and I'm just not interested in dating down a full generation gap, then I think I have come to enough of an understanding to avoid making any of whom I may encounter uncomfortable. Looks like now I also follow Ash... because... reasons. They made a fan out of me that's for sure.

    Hearing you say Spectrum so many times makes me want to listen to Spectrum by Florence and the Machine which is a song celebrating sexual and gender diversity with lots of amazing colors and subversions of masculine and feminine dance/dress. The song/music video are awesome and Florence and the Machine is my all time favorite music group.

    Maybe this is my engineering brain speaking, but I truly don’t understand how you can quantify the amount of sexual attraction someone experiences into an ace spectrum. How many instances of sexual attraction per time period designates someone as gray-asexual? Or demi-sexual? If this amount is different for everyone then why attempt making labels and boxes with no concrete definitions? Other spectrums in the lgbt community I understand, for instance if you estimated you were attracted to your own gender in 60% of cases and another/other gender(s) in 40% of cases, that makes enough sense to be a tool people can choose to use. What I don’t understand is how you can quantify how much sexual attraction you experience and how often.
    I also don’t understand the term demi-sexual because nearly everyone I know wants to form an emotional connection with someone before they want to have sex with them. That experience seems pretty normal to me and conversely, people (women especially) seem to be shamed for having one night stands or hooking up on the first date.
    This is me genuinely asking for other people’s thoughts because I honestly don’t get it.

    • @The_Frosty_Fox
      @The_Frosty_Fox 6 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      About the demi-sexual part: wanting to have sex with someone isn't necessarily the same as sexual attraction. Sexual people often get sexually attracted to people they don't yet know (but want to get to know) and possibly are romantically attracted to as well. Demi-sexual people don't get sexually attracted, until they form an emotional connection. Sexual attraction is directed at a specific person. I understand the confusion, but behaviour (not having sex until you get to know someone) doesn't have an influence on whether or not you're sexually attracted to that person. That's the best explanation I can give, but if you really want it to be clear, you can also look some stuff up on AVEN's website.

    • @divergentdreamer
      @divergentdreamer 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Great response, Michelle!
      To add to the gray-sexual dimension, I'll throw it to the other extreme. There are people who experience sexual attraction multiple times daily and to different degrees. Imagine the person who gets all energized and /needs/ to have sex with that person RIGHT NOW multiple times daily. Note, it's directed at a specific person, not just libido and desire to have sex with anyone. I'll put that at the zed sexual extreme. Now, what is the opposite of that? Not feeling sexual attraction ever. In between that, though, there are people who experience mild sexual attraction (e.g. "it'd be nice to have sex with that person") a lot, intense sexual attraction sometimes, and mild attraction sometimes. Some gray-sexual people may only have a handful of moments where they felt sexual attraction in their life.
      Does that help?

      Not everyone wants to form an emotional connection to someone. That's why it's easier for them to have casual sex. I only sometimes want an emotional connection.
      I don't think you can get a specific percentage because the spectrum is so fluid, so varied, that it's hard to get concrete figures.

    I had not really been introduced to the LGBT+ community until I was in ninth grade maybe. As i've gotten older, grown as a person, and learned I'm becoming more accepting of myself and others including questioning my sexuality and learning how to accept others for theirs. Same thing with gender as I'm learning I'm becoming more respectful and accepting. I hope I continue on this path of being a respectful and accepting person. I'm new to your channel but I'm excited to watch more of your videos to learn a bit more.

    things like this one really lift up my mood bc my sexuality is so complicated it can`t be put into simple words.
    i like to see mine as a variation of lines! (the time thing is also kinda helpful)
    so in my head i have this system of scales from 0 to 6 (like the kinsey scale lol)
    1)sexual attraction (how my body reacts) - 5,5-6
    2)sexual-emotional attraction - 2-2,5
    3)aesthetic attraction (who catches my eye in terms of appearence and the way they present themselves) - 3
    4)romantic attraction - 1
    5)romantic-platonic attraction - 3

    "If you are on a spectrum you are part of the community".
    Hmm. Isn't everyone on various spectrums, but words are more limiting than spectrums, and words are what eventually define whether you are in the community? For example, I am that diagram in the bisexual info sheet that is mostly into the other genders and just slightly into my own gender. But I identify as straight or "mostly straight", because it communicates better what I want from people. If I said I was bi, it would give a false idea that my attraction to the same gender people was significant enough to be mentioned and that I were open to having a same gender partner. (Which I am not at this point)
    I would like to hear a discussion on whether "allies" are a part of the lgbt+ community or not. And if not, at which point of a spectrum does one become a part of the community? If allies are included, then are all lgbt+ people part of the community, or is it possible that they wouldn't be, for example, if they don't support the community's ideology? Because if a straight cis person can become an ally and a part of the community by supporting the ideology, then would that apply to others as well?
    What is the function of defining lgbt+ people as a community? Where is the community located? What does it serve? Is it a means for the sexual and gender minorities to share their experiences and feel included in a sort of society within society? Or is it looking to expand into a larger movement and include everyone at some point? How long will the lgbtqapdi...+ chain go on? Is it looking to always exclude certain kind of straight people, and in that case, what kind and why?
    Is the community an insiders' club or an open one? Does one have to choose one of listed identities and change their perception of their identity before joining? Or can they make up their own word or use no labels and still join?
    I am asking all these questions because I am very interested in discussing gender and sexuality related topics, but it seems like I am not a part of the community because I fit within straight and cis umbrellas and my take on things therefore don't matter. I should listen to what people inside the community have to say. However I've become to question this dynamic because listening to people inside the comminity, I've got the impression that my experiences are very similar to theirs and only the vocabulary and perception seem different. I've also heard the principle that everyone should use the vocabulary that feels most comfortable to them. This would include me being technically bisexual, but identifying as straight. And someone identifying as bisexual, but technically being the same as me? So who has a say?
    Different definitions of gender come into play too, when we talk about what words mean. For example for a radical feminist that thinks gender is (only) a social construct, there would not be feelings of femininity or masculinity or an internal gender. Same goes for someone who thinks gender is only about body parts. Then there are the traditional gender roles, but they don't really tell what a gender feels like either. So if I've never experienced life in someone else's body, how could I know which part of me is because of my gender and which not?
    I would have to conclude that genders don't have definitions - that scientifically and socially a gender only has different likelyhoods to coexist with various traits and feelings. But in the end, it is impossible for a human to define their gender exactly.
    I think I am a tomboy, I have masculine, neutral and feminine days when it comes to what I'm comfortable with dressing and acting like, but inside I am always quite sensitive and caring and would see someone taking care of me as really attractive. Outwards my masculinity ans self-reliance are usually dominant though.
    I don't know how my perception of myself is in relation to that of Ash's or other nonbinary people. Ash has described having more masculine, neutral or feminine days, but also being very uncomfortable presenting feminine pretty much always. Me on the other hand, I like presenting feminine sometimes (but somewhat rarely). Perhaps presentation isn't a reliable indicator of gender. (Though certain type of presentation is more likely to be popular within a gender) Gender dysphoria might be something to look out for to indicate gender, but my body is very shapeless and neutral, so if a nonbinary person was in my body, would they have dysphoria? I wonder if I were nonbinary, would I notice? How subjective are thede things, and does it matter?

      I think it's a unifying and beautiful thing to say that everyone is a little bit of everything, to stress that we are all the same, in stead of othering people and calling them different.
      But there comes a point when using a different word is useful in some situations.

    As someone whose always had problems with a black and white or even a grey world view I love this. I have always argued that the world is made up of dimension and color and texture and have recently also started stressing perspective and language. What something means to one person or how they might communicate it may not be the the same. Rather than rejecting it we should be working out if we are talking about the same thing and why our views are different. Understanding and communication are invaluable and Spectrums and allowing for nuance is so important to both. Thank you for making this video. The quality was impressive, the energy welcoming, and it was just a lovely thing to watch.

    Gynephilia and androphilia aren't really orientations at all. They're clinical descriptions for chemical attraction. They have no relation to perspective of femininity or masculinity, as much as feminized and masculinized. They're one's attraction outside of identity. It's counter-intuitive, because gynesexual and androsexual sound like they would be more literal terms, but they refer more to socialized concepts and also have connotations to attraction by genitalia, or coping mechanisms. So those terms have been ruined for the most part, unless people start using the those terms strictly to denote being triggered by certain genitals.
