I relate to this so much. I’m an English tutor and my channel is very small so I never thought it would be a problem. However, one day (when I was working in Korea) I showed up to work and was fired. I was not told why I was fired. After speaking with coworkers, I realized that being openly lesbian on the internet was a “bad look” for my company. South Korea is not a fun place to be gay. I have a great life now in Taiwan. Discriminating against gay people is illegal here.

As an old, retired college professor who, for nearly 40 years, tried to create and BE a Safe Zone for all my LGBTQ+ students, it always greatly saddens me to learn how badly people are treated. While I worked very hard all during my career as a psychologist to learn as much about the diverse population I served, finding reliable info about trans persons was difficult at best. Had to learn from only a very few students...... I value enormously your contribution to the education of us all. Yours is the very first TH-cam channel I found to help educate me. I do hope that you will continue this work in some way & keep us all up to date on how you intend to do this. Your gift of yourself is deeply cherished.

Really happy that you stress how dangerous it is to leak people's private jobs. To further spread this beyond youtube spheres, it is also super dangerous to share not only a person's job but also their shifts/schedules!! There are so many cases of abusive partners/family and stalkers hurting people out of their jobs by gaining access to their schedule!
I knew women on the job (24/7, scheduled by quarter hour, 3 to 8 hour tours) who were injured and a few killed by exes because someone "helpfully" gave out their schedule over the phone. An idiot told my mother when I got off saying "But she's your mother!" (A. She said she was my mother, but... B. By that time managers were afraid of my mother, and guards knew her by sight. C. Federal law disallowed such information given out.) People can be stupid and vicious, either or both. 🐱🎃🐱

I’m now trying to imagine the surprise and excitement I’d have felt if I’d have been on a plane and saw the flight attendant and it was you. Wow - I was 95% convinced you were actually an ASL interpreter for a company that contracted with corporate clients! Why, might you ask? You always said you had a very customer/client facing position with a more rigid dress code, and you can't wear items that distract from your signs/communication as an interpreter. Additionally, you had to take off work when you broke your wrist. I even think I remember Grayson mentioning in passing you teaching them some signs once in a video. lol
I thought that for a while to however where I live interpreters just usually need to wear black or white, something that's not distracted and the men in the women don't need to wear different clothes so the one video ruled out that for me

I think this is also aimed at the possibly well-intended people who call CPS on family vloggers (especially those involving special needs), with claims that the kids being abused and/or exploited. Most people who would do that, are not going to put themselves out there on the internet for the world to see for all eternity. And all claims are investigated and most of the time there is no case; meanwhile, resources are being taken away from kids who really need to be helped. Some people literally have no lives.

I saw that video. I was under the impression that it was possible that it wasn’t true or at least not true anymore so I didn’t think much of it. Having a lot of family members in that industry, I know how important it was to keep it a secret. You were an authority on flights and if someone harasses you, that can affect everyone’s safety

I was sitting on a flight once and heard a voice I recognized saying something to me...looked up and saw you :) I was too startled to say anything though! My roommate at the time loved you and was disappointed in me when I told her, haha.
I had a friend who had an ex who stalked her consistently; court orders did nothing, moving did nothing. She had to repeatedly change her name/username online, because he'd keep finding her new profiles. That one friend alone is enough for me to always be vigilant of what I share online, both about myself and others, because anyone could be in the same situation.

I know....I was #1 at a #1 radio station----many, many, moons ago--- and was stalked for 3 years. Then my kids were 4 and 5, both girls and this guy knew not only what school they went to, but but what they and I were wearing that day!!! Being divorced with two kids, my EX found out and said if I didn't allow him custody until this was settled, he would take me to court and get full custody. It was a horrible, horrible time. I'm glad you did what you did and the maturity you showed in how you handled that situation was far better than mine ! ALL of you keep safe! i’m really sorry that this happened, i wish people would just respect other privacy let alone creators. this is slightly off topic but one guy decided to go around telling people that i’m gay, i didn’t even say i was gay to him, i just said something to him that could be interpreted in that way. (even though i think it is true, i did not want that spread around) it stuffed me so far back into the closet that i decided that i’m never ever ever going to come out at school, i don’t know if i’ll ever be ready to come out at this point.
millie ;0 I hope things work out for you - coming out is a decision that every person has to sort out for themself, there is no one right answer. The balance between the potential risk to your safety if there are homophobic people in your life or community, vs the sense of freedom and rightness from not being in a position of lying about your identity - how you deal with it is your own choice. I'm assuming you've watched both Dan Howell's and Phil Lester's coming out videos? They both explore a bunch of important issues very articulately.
I am so sorry you went through this Ash. I've recently dealt with a similar incident on a much smaller level, and I can relate to how upsetting having your personal life leaked publicly without your consent is. Having boundaries is 100% healthy and I have been working very hard on setting them in my own life. Please know that you are an inspiration, and you do not ever deserve to be harassed and violated simply because you are a public figure.
Several years back, I was non-reving (my mom is I flight attendant for the company you used to work for) on a flight you were working. I wanted to say hi, but decided not to because a) I didn’t want to bug you and b) my mom would’ve been pissed at me for distracting someone working the flight.

I knew women on the job (24/7, scheduled by quarter hour, 3 to 8 hour tours) who were injured and a few killed by exes because someone "helpfully" gave out their schedule over the phone. An idiot told my mother when I got off saying "But she's your mother!" (A. She said she was my mother, but... B. By that time managers were afraid of my mother, and guards knew her by sight. C. Federal law disallowed such information given out.) People can be stupid and vicious, either or both.

Wow - I was 95% convinced you were actually an ASL interpreter for a company that contracted with corporate clients! Why, might you ask? You always said you had a very customer/client facing position with a more rigid dress code, and you can't wear items that distract from your signs/communication as an interpreter. Additionally, you had to take off work when you broke your wrist. I even think I remember Grayson mentioning in passing you teaching them some signs once in a video. lol
I thought that for a while to however where I live interpreters just usually need to wear black or white, something that's not distracted and the men in the women don't need to wear different clothes so the one video ruled out that for me
You make content that helps a lot of people, this person included. You should not have to deal with this from others. I am sorry that you do. You deserve better. Hopefully, by sharing some of your experiences you can help yet more people.

Most people who would do that, are not going to put themselves out there on the internet for the world to see for all eternity. And all claims are investigated and most of the time there is no case; meanwhile, resources are being taken away from kids who really need to be helped. Some people literally have no lives.

Then my kids were 4 and 5, both girls and this guy knew not only what school they went to, but but what they and I were wearing that day!!! Being divorced with two kids, my EX found out and said if I didn't allow him custody until this was settled, he would take me to court and get full custody. It was a horrible, horrible time. this is slightly off topic but one guy decided to go around telling people that i’m gay, i didn’t even say i was gay to him, i just said something to him that could be interpreted in that way. (even though i think it is true, i did not want that spread around) it stuffed me so far back into the closet that i decided that i’m never ever ever going to come out at school, i don’t know if i’ll ever be ready to come out at this point.
millie ;0 I hope things work out for you - coming out is a decision that every person has to sort out for themself, there is no one right answer. The balance between the potential risk to your safety if there are homophobic people in your life or community, vs the sense of freedom and rightness from not being in a position of lying about your identity - how you deal with it is your own choice.

I am so sorry you went through this Ash. I've recently dealt with a similar incident on a much smaller level, and I can relate to how upsetting having your personal life leaked publicly without your consent is. Having boundaries is 100% healthy and I have been working very hard on setting them in my own life. Please know that you are an inspiration, and you do not ever deserve to be harassed and violated simply because you are a public figure.
Several years back, I was non-reving (my mom is I flight attendant for the company you used to work for) on a flight you were working. I wanted to say hi, but decided not to because a) I didn’t want to bug you and b) my mom would’ve been pissed at me for distracting someone working the flight.
I'm sorry that this is happening to you. I'm surprised by the length some people go through just to send you hate... that's so crazy.
