I am an agender ( born girl ) lesbian. I didnt watch thlis video seeing that in part to agender will be covered. There is so many sexualitys and genders its amazing. However, there is only 3 sexes. Everyone has a sex, man woman and intersex. My brother is asexual and snother is straight. Gender names are very important. Seeing that I look woman, mzny people call me she. This feels so bad. Ever time ppl do this it hurts, it just doesnt feel right. The bad thing is, most people dont understsnd genders or mistake me for trans.i find this super annoying and wish that people would not exspect me to be callled she.

It sounds like Noah is making it very obvious what pronouns she wants us to use to describe her. Why else would she be an asshole on a video about gender?
In most latin languages (french, spanish, ...) , we don't have the chance to have gender neutral pronouns and it's an issue for non-binary people. For exemple I am french and I don't feel confortable being referred as 'elle' (she) nor 'il' (he) but there is nothing in the middle (they being 'ils' or 'elles'). I mean we even use gendered pronouns for objects... Some people tried to invented gendered pronouns (iel, yel, yol, ol) but no one knows they even exist and they aren't in the dictionary. Also, people refuse to use them when you ask, they're confusing and, let's be honest, they are too damn difficult to pronounce to be used. I thought it was an interesting subject to address ^^
yeah, part of the reason why I love english as much as I do and use it on a daily basis is because gender-neutral pronouns exist in it, while in Hebrew, my first language, nearly every word is gendered and there are no gender-neutral terms for anything.
I know that feel :/ I'm from Perú and even if I'm cis, I just would like that my lenguage were inclusive enough to have a neutral pronoun, I'm curious tho abput ethe ze/hir they mentioned. Is like a specially created mix of words... we could probably have one like that too
Eric B Why would I?If you want to call a table 'her' or 'him', do as you wish, that's beside my point x) We actually use a feminine pronoun for table in french because we don't have neutral ones, but I just think it would be nice to have other pronoun options than male/female in general, especially for people who don't feel like either of those are fitted for them ^^
Dude, I'm French, ok, allor je comprend que ce que tu dis. But that's my point, it's the language, it's not gonna change for your comfort. What's wrong with saying La Table, or Le Monde. How about words with L apostrophe. They are very neutral that they confuse people like me as a child as to whether or not L'avion is masculine or feminine. So maybe you should figure something out with that?
When the list was up I was basically stabbing my phone screen trying to click on one of the words, and then a few moments later they said “or if you’re on a mobile device, I’ll list it in the description below” and now I’ll feel stupid...
I’m genderfluid, so I rule the rulers of this land. Hello! (I never identify as purely male or female, but because non-binary is an umbrella term for multiple different gender identities the term “genderfluid” still fits me.)
My friends at school don't really respect my gender neutral pronouns or don't even make an effort to refer to me as they/them and it's really beginning to get frustrating meh
I remember when in the early days this comment section was a place where confused people and lonely people could find people like themselves, I dont want to say "safe space" because of the connataions, but it is true, ashley's comment sections were fun and full of people trying to help other people, now its just full of people who just want to bully and refuse to listen to someone else's opinion, its sad, as a view of ashley's video's for years now the whole nice fun family atmosphere is dead
+Thomas Buchovecky Count the amount of comments saying "There are only 2 genders" before you talk about echo chambers. These bullies are not offering anything constructive and are scientifically wrong.
If people were just presenting different arguments for their beliefs in a calm and logical manner it would be welcomed and accepted even if not agreed with but that is not the case! There's a huge difference between a differing opinion and shouting transphobic slurs for the sole purpose of hurting people.
Good, this channel deserves to be dead because it can't back itself up. Sociology is one of the least important science out there and it is mostly made up of things that are constructed by society. The point is: nobody wants to learn about this garbage because it doesn't matter.
well clearly some people find it interesting, and a lot of things are constucted by society, and to a lot of people who hate parts of themselves but dont know why, it really does matter
J Hurtz No one is asking you to agree with this accepted or understand it but if it's not something you're interested then why the fuck are you even here in the first place you have the entire internet to go to why can't you just let us have our space. For someone who claims not to care you certainly are paying a lot of attention and putting a lot of effort into your hatred for this! You choose to come here and then you act like we're shoving it in your face bullshit! Of course there's a lot of people that don't give a shit about any of this but that's because they're lucky enough to not have to. Anybody who thinks this is unimportant bullshit should check their privilege! just because it's not an issue that affects you, just because you're lucky enough to never have to question your self or soul search or feel confused and scared about these deep parts of your core self doesn't give you the right to take this away from the people that do!
I'm still I little bit confused on my gender. So I was born a Cory in the house dvd set and I'm now a meme. If you guys can help I'd really appreciate it.
May you please close caption your videos? I am losing my hearing and I can't enjoy your content anymore since I can't hear you. I really want to stay subscribed but I can't unless you add captions :) just something to consider. The automatic captions are horrible at best. Please make your own accurate captions so I can watch :)
I like to be referred to as a boy but I don't want to be a boy, and I wear a lot of "unisex" clothes because when I wear dresses or things that are considered traditional for girls or traditional for guys something doesn't feel right, I do have certain days where I feel like dressing up as a guy, or wearing a dress and being super feminine, but a lot of the days where I'm not just wearing the "unisex" clothing I mentioned earlier I wear something that is more.... "boy-ish" if you wanna say.
Then you're a femboy, simple as that. You seem to identify as a guy (seeing as you are born a guy) and wear clothes for a girl (sometimes). That's a femboy, and that's fine.
You see? That's why you guys look like jokes, because you complicate and confuse yourselves. It's a fucking trait/preference, not some gender fairy transition. Common sense.
My friend asked me what my pronouns were because I was showing him a picture of me and my girlfriend holding up a gender fluid flag! I said he,him, they, them. He felt so bad that he was saying she,her to me for the three years we have been friends!! I recommended this video to him so he can understand what I was talking about! Love you ash! We are both subscribers and daily watchers of yours!!
You did an excellent job with this Ashley. I've been learning a lot about gender identity and gender expression over the last few months because Ive been working with an organization called SAVE in Miami. We are working on transgender rights right now. Im going to bring up this video at our next volunteer recruitment phone bank next Tuesday. I am biologically female but when it comes to my gender identity, Im pretty fluid. Sometimes I feel feminine, sometimes I feel masculine, and other times I dont feel like either gender. I use female gender pronouns though. Its easier than asking people to be switching them around on the daily or just using "they/them/theirs". Also my family isnt open to different things so asking them to refer to me as "they" wouldnt go well. Though I have gotten everyone to use the gender neutral name "Nat". I dont tell them why I prefer that name. Everyone is pretty use to my gender expression. Ive been dressing in an androgynous/masculine fashion since I was a child.
Aaaaaaaaand I just about squealed when Kaitlyn came on screen. Awesome informative video! I learns a few things here and there despite being part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
its honestly fucking ridiculous how people think there are more then 2 fucking genders. I have nothing against LBGT but fuck, people are just making up shit thats fucking retarted
Its not war. Its reason vs the idiocy. Nobody here hates LGBT people. We just dont accept all the bullshit they are saying. Stop comparing not agreeing to hate.
Kannabisss hi I'm gender fluid! Please know that your comment really hurt. I feel you should also know that after coming out I've been a lot happier! Thanks!
I love this video and appreciate all the work you must have put into it. I've been following you on TH-cam for awhile and as a trans woman myself, I must say your ally-ship to trans people feels very real and genuine. I know people who call themselves allies of any given group as a badge of popularity of sorts, and think that it makes them immune to criticism, but you seem to know what being a good ally actually means, even to the point of having the respect to bring others on your channel to speak for themselves on this topic rather than trying to speak for us. Thanks for that.
Ashley Mardell Thanks for the reply! It means a lot that you replied to my comment, actually. :) Understandable that you can't work it in for part two, considering, and they are your videos anyway; 'twas only a suggestion. But thanks for keeping it in mind for the future. Ah, somehow in my semi-ranty 4 paragraph comment about biological sex, I didn't mention intersex people! I'm glad they're getting some coverage in the next video, as that's another group of people who definitely deserve more respectful exposition. Thanks again for the reply, and for doing what you do. Looking forward to more amazing videos. :)
Guys, sexuality is who you like, or don't like, basically who you go to bed with. Gender, is either your biological gender, what your born as, or what you identify as, basically who you go to bed as.
Alex GB There are 2. All you do when you make up all these genders is confuse people and insult others who accidentally call you something else. Are you not OK with who you are, up to the point where you have to make special nicknames for yourself? Kind of sad imo.
I feel uncomfortable when I'm called a girl but I like feminine stuff like doing my hair and makeup and wearing girly clothes sometimes..I still feel weird when people call me by she/her
Hi friend, I just want to say, ignore the hateful idiot who says "deal with it". They are the ones who can deal with it. You just be you. It's ok to take your time figuring out your gender. It matters more who you are as a human being than what anyone else thinks of you. Get to know yourself and explore how you feel and what works for you. It may be that you have a non-binary gender identity with a feminine style of expression. Only you know you well enough to decide that. Best of wishes to you on your journey. ❤

These videos are SO GREAT. I just recently realized my sexuality and have been scouring TH-cam for an intro the the LGBTQ+ community and this playlist has SAVED MY LIFE TYSM OMG
I am trying my best to educate myself on everything LGBTQ+ because I feel like I need to know all this! I feel bad not being aware of all of these different names, labels and lifestyles that people I know might have something to do with! I’ve looked up a lot of things and learned a lot of new information today! Thanks Ash!!
Just bare in mind this video is from 2015 so some of the stuff is out dated or not pc now, even if it was at the time. A good place to learn is the community on instagram, so long as the find the right side of it, because there is a lot of hate there as well. Good luck!!!
"Each word is an annotation that leads to when that word is talked about in the video" - Ash in a time before TH-cam disabled annotations R I P (But also, thanks for putting the times in the description. You are literally the best.)
Sexual dimorphism naturally results in a gender binary, just as the black and white dimorphic color scheme produces the binary categorization of shades of grey into light grey and dark grey. Sex is not gender, in the same way that color is not shade. You can easily categorize grey by comparing it to black and white and observing whether it is darker or lighter.
you might be similar to ash in the way that, you don’t care what pronouns people use for you, though I don’t know you personally, that just might be what fits you.
This is actually called apagender or gender apathetic I highly recommend you look it up because it's very underrepresented but exists in lots of people
@@theneekofficial8829 I don't really feel genderless but I feel apathy towards my sex assigned at birth. Although I express myself in a feminine way I don't like my name assigned at birth because it's too feminine but I am ok with every pronoun. I call myself greygender, you can look up for more if you are interested.
As a trans person i fully support you and wish you the best in your journey to transition into a ferrari 💕 i cant support the color beige on a ferrari though.
I think there should be a distinction made between body dysphoria and social dysphoria instead of simply dysphoria. I'm non-binary and I don't experience body dysphoria (I don't want to change biologically female parts), but I do experience social dysphoria.
I have the same sort of feeling I feel worst about what people label me as than my actual body but I am some what self conscious of my voice by then again I think that goes back to social norms
So I’m transgender (FtM), and not long after I came out as a male, my dad told me about how he has always kind of identified more as a woman who loves women, even joking(-but-not-really-joking) in college about how he was such. It’s important to understand that my parents are older, both of them Baby Boomers, so he was in college in the late 70s when the term “transgender” was still kind of foreign to most (though thanks to women such as the incomparable Marsha P. Johnson, it was starting to become more well-known). My dad went on to explain that, as he grew older, he realized that gender is just a social construct, that it’s a spectrum and not an either/or situation, and he became more comfortable with who he is. He doesn’t feel the need to change his name or pronouns, to go on hormones and get surgery, because he knows that he is who he is. He doesn’t care how others see him. He ended his story with telling me he still feels like a woman to this day, that none of his feelings on his true gender have changed, but he doesn’t feel the need to transition-medically or socially-because it would only be to please others and fit society’s guidelines. I think I know where I got my trans-ness from..
Philip Raats Of course people don't give a fuck! of course the world is savage and cruel but that doesn't mean we can't choose to be decent human beings to each other in certain situations! Not everybody is going to respect or support us but that doesn't make it wrong to respect or support each other. And you don't have to be part of that if you don't choose to be. It's not about the whole world being a safe space or being accepted by everybody it's just about knowing ourselves better and taking full advantage of the safe places we do have to improve the quality of are lives.
Watching this video when my mom comes in and tells me how genders other than male and female are stupid (she saw it on the news) and I'm just here like, "Well I'm questioning my gender right now so could you not?"
I'm gender fluid and non-binary, my birth gender is a girl, my gender expression is mostly in between female and male, and I don't know who I'm sexually attracted to yet, but I'm definitely not Ace or anything similar to that.
I don't see why the hate is so important. Sex and gender is different and it even says that in the dictionary when you try to find the definition of gender. Gender is different than sex and gender is what you identify as while sex is what you physically are. some people identify as some uncommon gender for attention but most are real and feel that way because literally, who has time for hate and what is the point of fame if its negative? literally all of you people just don't get it.
It's not hate when you're pointing out facts to someone. Get rid of that stupid mindset. I'd say trying to get someone out of their imaginary world is a show of kindness.
Christian Lampley And the same to you. If your skull is too thick to comprehend that, I'll explain: you are the one in the imaginary little world. I hope there isn't someone as horrible as you to teach you these things, and that you are just born that way for some reason. For the sake of all mankind, don't have children. You'd just be spawning hatred to corrupt our society.
I'm only six minutes into this video but I've heard someone say "female gender." Haven't we already established that "male" and "female" are biological sex categories which are not to be confused with gender/ gender identity?
Awake in Albany Yea, but this is safe space and people make mistakes. I think you understand what they meant. Thanks for pointing it out though. That's the only way we can learn/improve/grow :)
Well, sex and gender are also not so easily separated, in that sex is the gendering of the body, basically. It's looking at a body and assigning it a gender, and then assuming a lot about their biology based on that. Trans men are male, trans women are female.
Awake in Albany I agree with Danika. I think the words "male" and "female" will always be associated with gender, so trying to separate which words we're allowed to use to describe gender identity or bodies is entirely pointless. (Also sex is a social construct. Bodies are not inherently male or female.)
Ireallyreally Hategoogle In our society, sex is used as a way to assign a gender to a person based off of the appearance of their external genitalia. However, because gender is not at all related to the appearance of your body, the term "sex" as it is used in our society is largely a social construct. For the purpose of better communication, new terms need to be coined to describe sex without insinuating that the social construct of gender is biological.
YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH YOU HAVE HELPED ME OUTTTTT I have so many friends that are apart of the LGBTQAI+ (sorry if I missed a letter or added too many xD) but I don't really know a lot about it. Some friends would explain some of it but I never fully understood the differences of other parts of it so this is a BLESSINGGGGG to be able to learn about my friends and their community in a fun sort of way, so thank you sosososoos much
How do agender people describe their sexuality? Words like homosexual or heterosexual (meaning sexual attraction to people of the same gender/other gender, respectively), don't really apply if you yourself don't identify as being gendered.
Yes i wonder the same thing. I think it's for them to decide what they identify as. Why don't we call it girl lover, boy lover and more. Maybe you like gendernuteral or trans people and i dont think there is a word for that. Then you can tell someone what you actually like without saying your gender (if you dont identify as any gender)
+Maya Vågstrand That would be more effective, I think. Maybe more sciencey words like androsexual (liking men)/gynosexual (liking women)/and, uh... neutrosexual? For agender people?
+inkliizii It's gynesexual (attraction to females), androsexual (attraction to males), and skoliosexual (attraction to non-binary or genderqueer people).
I have stepped into the gender forest Help me there's too many trees Where the hell am I and which tree should I start climbing Is there anyone who will help me climb And who will pull me down? Can you tell I'm happy with this metaphor :3

A good KICK UP HER ASS would probably help a lot more. ..... but I guess the father figure hasn't been around her dysfunctional family for too long to get to this point.
I really wish people will just be like "Fuck genders we're all human let's just make the best of this world with the time we have left with it." Instead of having Wars and fighting over things that are pointless was just you know except the fact that we only have so little time on this planet and let's just enjoy it while we're still on it instead of fighting over stupid things and if people identify with a different gender of then a boy and a girl let them do that I'm sure not it's affecting you with your whole entire life so just ignore it if you don't support it.

Omg Kaitlyn is in this!! Any creampuffs here? I can't wait for Part 2, thank you for making this Ashley!!
Julian Breen "However, there is only 3 sexes." Actually no! I recently learned bio sex exists on a spectrum! I talk about it in an upcoming vid!
Oh , sorry, I thought there was only 3 sexes.

Yes.
Is like a specially created mix of words... we could probably have one like that too
Noémie Daniel-Endo you sound like you'd be offended if i called the table her -_-
Eric B Why would I?If you want to call a table 'her' or 'him', do as you wish, that's beside my point x)
We actually use a feminine pronoun for table in french because we don't have neutral ones, but I just think it would be nice to have other pronoun options than male/female in general, especially for people who don't feel like either of those are fitted for them ^^
Dude, I'm French, ok, allor je comprend que ce que tu dis.

J Hurtz
No one is asking you to agree with this accepted or understand it but if it's not something you're interested then why the fuck are you even here in the first place you have the entire internet to go to why can't you just let us have our space.

Than that's a personality a choice on clothing not a fucking gender
that's a personality. You're a girl wearing whatever the fuck you want. Clothes don't define who you are.
You see? That's why you guys look like jokes, because you complicate and confuse yourselves. It's a fucking trait/preference, not some gender fairy transition. Common sense.

NatBat Very cool :)

Me: Bahahahahahaha you wish! No, you are non-binary and super duper androgynous and cool!!

Of course people don't give a fuck! of course the world is savage and cruel but that doesn't mean we can't choose to be decent human beings to each other in certain situations!

It's an important part of maturing, learning about your gender and sexuality. What's wrong with that?
I'm gender fluid and non-binary, my birth gender is a girl, my gender expression is mostly in between female and male, and I don't know who I'm sexually attracted to yet, but I'm definitely not Ace or anything similar to that.
no... you're just that kid in school that tries to be different, but ends up looking braindead
I sexually identify as a sock
You do you. 😁
Diana Alsaeed Nope science
It's not hate when you're pointing out facts to someone. Get rid of that stupid mindset. I'd say trying to get someone out of their imaginary world is a show of kindness.
Even in psychology. Sex and gender are different. Gender is just sometimes used to mean sex.
Christian Lampley
And the same to you. If your skull is too thick to comprehend that, I'll explain:
you are the one in the imaginary little world. I hope there isn't someone as horrible as you to teach you these things, and that you are just born that way for some reason. For the sake of all mankind, don't have children. You'd just be spawning hatred to corrupt our society.
and according to you, that's kindness.
I love your outfit here Ash!
Thank you for adding the annotations for those of us on mobile.
Danika Leigh Ellis truuu

+inkliizii yeah, we would invent that

+Gaby Then why is sex synonymous to gender in the dictionary?

Wow! A lot of effort in the video. Great effort and editing.
I just don't agree with the topic, but still think it's a great project.
I AM BLOWN AWAY OF HOW INFORMATIVE THIS IS! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! 💜💜💜
I have stepped into the gender forest
Help me there's too many trees
Where the hell am I and which tree should I start climbing
Is there anyone who will help me climb
And who will pull me down?
Can you tell I'm happy with this metaphor :3

Wow Ash! Was just showing this to my 2 year old (yup) and I realized back then you still thought you were cis lol. I found your channel only a few months before this came out. :) Also I have your book.
As a grey-skin alien, I'd like my pronouns to be ayy and lmao
Thank You Thank You Thank You!
This helped me so much!
Getting more stupid ? You call that help ?
Leave Britney Alone... whine whine whine (that's a fucking OLD MEME)
