  • No one knows exactly what causes the range of post COVID-19 infection symptoms, often called long covid. In Singapore, 1 in 10 recovered COVID-19 patients has had persistent symptoms six months after their initial infection. But as the virus mutates and becomes more widespread in recent months, it seems some lingering symptoms are changing as well.
Talking Point speaks to a panel of experts to find out what are some long covid symptoms you should watch out for, when you should seek medical help, and if there is any cause for concern.

I had it back in october and started feeling symptoms in early febuary just after i caught a cold. That was actually my first time getting sick after covid. Now im left with constant shortness of breath, heart racing, weird feelings in my left body part, weird feelings in my chest such as weakness or tingles (i really can’t describe it), fatigue, anxiety and other weird symptoms ive never felt before. I completely lost my happiness. I dont even know if it is some sort of covid related stuff and nobody takes me serious

Been through all the test. Still suffering after nearly two years. Cognitive issues, shortness of breath, fatigue (beyond just normal tiredness) also palpitations.

This has been so helpful in a supportive way. Sorry for everyone going through it. I'm wrecked a few months after Covid, but luckily my family and work have been supportive. I hope everyone will recover soon rather than later. Stay positive all!

I’ve had COVID twice. Once in January of 2020, and once in December of 2021 after being double vaccinated. The second infection was the worst, fever, loss of taste, coughing. Ended up being treated for pneumonia and bronchitis. Started recovering more than a month later. Now, I’m still dealing with serious brain fog, fatigue, shortness of breath to the point where I need to use a steroidal inhaler, balance issues, increased tinnitus, and on and on. When I called my doctor, I never heard back from them, only the nurse practitioner. Almost a year later, I haven’t heard from my doctor and his office is saying “it could be long COVID” and that’s the end of the conversation.

I had various symptoms (rapid heartbeat, tingling in feet, insomnia, anxiety, tinnitus, etc) after having COVID in Feb 2021 - for about 7-8 months, then have been much better. So many Dr visits, lab tests and just feeling very poorly during that time that I'm glad to be doing better.

I'm exhausted. They don't test here but I can't breathe and every day is a struggle.

2 years of long covid. Was always very healthy and no problems. Tried so many things. What finally helped; first, antihistamines took the edge off some symptoms. second, intermittent fasting. It took about 2 months but finally better. Still can't exert myself without feeling exhausted but better every day now. Didn't think I could go without breakfast but actually it was/is easy. Now first meal at 1:00pm. I urge you all to try this. Cut my three favorite things; sugar, caffeine and alcohol. They all made me unwell, inflammation.

Anxiety can be a driving factor to a lot of symptoms bc you really don't know what's wrong with you and all these visits to the doctor helps alleviate some of it even though you're not really getting a definitive diagnosis.

So glad to see this being taken seriously somewhere in the world, certainly ignored in central Illinois. After Delta was still in NMD diagnosis hell, heart rate varied from 48 to 120, was short of breath just sitting and talking, eating was exhausting. Because couldn't get covid test first week of March 2020 MD said it was not covid because I didn't go into respiratory distress, except was using home bipap and 3LPM oxygen to keep POX at 91... that didn't matter. Now 2 yrs of tinnitus, that disappeared for 12 days when had covid in June confirmed by home test on day 10. Shortly after starting to feel better had sudden rush of hopelessness and tinnitus returned, the mood improved in 48 hrs. First 3 wks could only take dogs out, eat and shower every 4 days, vacuum 8x10 rug every 2 wks, do dishes once a week. Neurologist said I was fine. Feel light there is gaslighting. I was double vax and boosted because am RN and still feel bad physically and emotionally when I seek help

I'm not sure about other people but people I know who have been vaccinated are dealing with long covid. I think the immune system has been compromised.

I had Covid Ba.4 symptoms starting June 5, and tested positive June 7 with strong sinus and chest congestion and big brain fog. no headache or sore throat, but lots of coughing up stuff, like a very bad cold. Most strong symptoms went away after 10 days, but I still have sinus drainage all the time, some back pain, and brain fog/dizziness. I also am experiencing bouts of vertigo, which I have never had in my life. Getting on a ladder even two steps up feels wobbly to me. The brain fog is very troubling and I can't stand it. It has been 6 weeks now.

Caught Covid Feb 2022, didn't have long covid. No jab. Then caught Covid again Nov 2022 and it knocked us out. Had to deal with covid pneumonia and our entire family dealing with Long Covid. A lot of brain fog, shortness of breath, tachycardia, chest pain, temperature intolerance, fatigue, skin conditions, stomach pain and sleep issues. It's been very hard on us!

I am 68 years old. I had three covid shots several months prior to getting covid. I have asthma as well, but my oximeter reading is always 95 to 97. My covid lasted about 14 days which was basically like a cold and flu. I tested positive the first time and positive again a second time 2 weeks later. I thought I was over it but about 4 days after it ended new symptoms appeared. Now I have body chills and headaches with pressure and congestion in my chest with some inflammation as well on and off and I am lightheaded a lot, but I generally am not that tired. I have postnasal drip and I am blowing my nose all day long. I have some soreness in my throat occasionally. It is the headaches and body chills and muscular aches that bother me the most. I wake up most mornings feeling fine and then an hour or so later the symptoms start again. I have doubled my daily doses of vitamin D and alternate between ibuprofen and acetaminophen and I drink water all day long. This is now 9 weeks after first testing positive even though I tested negative 2 weeks ago. It comes and goes. A day or so can pass where I feel almost no symptoms at all but then it reoccurs. My wife who had no shots had covid the same time as I did and has fully recovered with no new symptoms.

I got Covid in January. Feb I was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation. I went to ER with 177 heart rate. ( After going to urgent care for a lingering cough) I got meds to control heart rate and sent to Cardiologist. They added a new med to attempt to put heart rate to normal sinus Rhythm. That failed. So scheduled with Electrophysiologist for next steps. We agreed on ablation. At this point since my ER visit. I have had multiple EKGs, an electrocardiogram, labs and stress test. I go in for ablation and in the procedure the doc lost all electrical signals and I went into cardiac arrest. They got me back and put a temporary emergency pacemaker. Implanted permanent pacemaker next day. It has been a little over a month since surgery and im doing ok. Still tired but much better than this time last month.

I had/have long Covid. I got Covid in late December 2021. After my main symptoms vanished, I was left with nausea and vomiting and back pain, in the kidney area, for 2 months. Since March, I have had very bad hair loss (I heard 25% of people that had Covid get this). I also have Chronic Lymes, which flares-up in March, and this causes me to have hair loss- it’s just so much worse now, and my flare-up is lasting far longer.

I was struck with C19 in late 2019 (yes, late 2019). I have no chance, because I have no health care. Been suffering since then, and it'll never change. I have no help, no support, no money, no resources.

Dr. Barnaby Young, the doctor interviewed in this video should lose his medical license. Telling people to not continue looking for a solution for their Long Covid symptoms, and to just wait for it to get better, is not practicing medicine. In addition, his response to how long Long Covid will last was pathetic. If he would have just said we don’t know yet the futures of those with Long Covid that would have been a better answer.

I had COVID delta in Sept 2021 and I was bad sick for three weeks. I had a lingering cough for quite some time after recovering but I have had bouts of just not feeling very well including chills, feeling cold but never having a fever. In fact my temp was rather low but not too low. I have have heart palpitations from time to time and chest pains as well as aches and pains in my left shoulder but now it's more spread out over my body. I have been to the emergency room at least 4 times thinking I'm having a heart.attack but nothing shows up on tests. I have even had extensive tests such as stress tests and everything comes back normal. I also have gastrointestinal issues also. I have developed heartburn (GERDS) and a bloating feeling.
