Great video mate, very interesting. I'm from Cheshire and I can remember being told about Beeston castle as a child. We were told that In the civil war the officer who surrendered the castle was shot behind the church in Nantwich for handing over the castle. Not sure how true it is but this is why history is absolutely amazing. Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming mucker. I've just discovered your channel and it's helping to keep me sane in this current madness ( More videos about Cheshire would be fantastic)
Oh wow, i didnt read about that when i researched the castle. I might have to read up on it a bit more! And I will see what i can do, Cheshire is a lovely place full of history but i only spent 1 day there, will have to go back!
Dating as far back as Norman times, written records would be kept for pretty much any big construction project for tax & admin purposes, it's just luck that these records survive into the modern day.
@@AlexTheHistoryGuy One look at the aesthetically pleasing designs of the Victorian, Georgian and Edwardian town houses for example clearly suggests the opposite, with costs having no relevance whatsoever. Cut stone and fine bricks, big oversized doors, rooms with grand high ornate ceilings. All these are standard and found in every home which is indicative of a culture of masterbuilders, not bean counters.
I definitely could, there isnt much there anymore but the church is very interesting as it used to be an Abbey but its partial destruction was a key factor in triggering Kett's rebellion in 1549
Thanks man, good stuff
Thanks mate much appreciated
I am learning so much history from your channel. You are taking me to parts of Britain I have never been.
That's exactly what my channel is for! History you didn't know about 😊 plenty more coming too!

Good stuff. I’ve been to Beeston and very impressive with amazing views
May I enquire, how exactly do historians know what it supposedly cost to to carry out work described @4:45?

I'm not sure what you're saying sorry
Great series of videos Alex, keep up the good work.
Would you be intrested in doing an episode on Bungay castle?

My Povall family were living here in the early 1800’s. Also before this in Bunbury
Just traced my paternal lineage (Beason) all the way HERE!!! MY 16th great-grandfather ♡
That's amazing, I encourage everyone to research their ancestry, you can find some incredible things to be proud of.
We must be distant cousins. =). Lady Mary Margaret Beeston is my 16th gr. grandmother!
Fresh from a visit to this very castle. You have a new subscriber 👍🏻
Ayy nice to hear, well I hope you learned something that may not have been on the information boards at the castle 😊
I can't BEElieve you did a video in this!
O lord 😁
Beeston castle sits on a giant tree stump
My last name is beeson
This is my familys castle that was stolen by the queen I will one day take back what is mine
Well I hate to burst your bubble but Beeston Castle wasn't named Beeston because of a family name!
