in the books both sides do terrible things, so it isn't as biased towards either side. Plus the books are written from the point of view of maesters who weren't involved in the actual conflict.

@@dukehouseclothing853Eh. Fire and Blood is a collection of unreliable narration and contradictory perspectives. Gyldayn being a maester doesn’t make the historiographical recounts more reliable and historically accurate. In fact, the opposite is considered true by most readers. Something I consider intentional by GRRM, a direct critique of how biased actual history is in the eyes and mouths of those who claim to retell it, especially in scholarly writing. So much of the narrative is based around what is most likely, not really what is most accurate. A bit fitting, considering most of the people that write the history weren’t there to live it.

Alicent wasn't really in the "women shouldn't rule" camp. Before she misinterpreted Viserys' last words she told Rheanyra would be a good queen and was prepared to mend their relationship. Prior to that episode she was afraid Rheanyra would kill her kids eventually to stop the threat to her rule. It's a thing Otto instilled into her, but she didn't believe until she found out Rheanyra lied about the sex stuff and began to believe Rheanyra wasn't as virtuous as she thought.

It's obviously Cole's stupid plan to show strength but instead he has mortolized the dragons in the eyes of the small folk. Now the fear aspect they had of dragons is slowly deteriorating. Was it patriarchy that made Rhaenyra have b*stard children? Or made her kill Laenor* (the servant) ? Or made her marry her uncle while the very reason she was named heir in the first place was so he doesn't become king ? Or made her kill and take the tongue of everyone who said the truth about her children ? Or made her ask for Aemond to be tortured after losing an eye ? Or made her kill Jaehaerys (Daemon)? Or make her so entitled as to do nothing to secure her claim ? And made her inactive when everyone in her council is asking her to take action while her men are dying on the field ? And this is excluding everything we have not seen yet on the show, and things they removed to make her look better.
All of Rhaenyra's mistakes are on her alone. She is not fighting against the system like Daenerys, she is in fact the one who benefits the most from the absolute monarchy.

@@mauratlantean3002 I meant in the texbook definition of a patriarchal monarchy, that a male heir will always have preference regardless of competency, and Alicent didnt realize her worth was strictly tied with her role as a "heir maker" and it expired as soon the heir came to age. Im not saying Rhaenyra is a righteous feminist icon, this has nothing to do with the modern sense of patriarchy. In the show sense, yeah, Rhaenyra is technically fighting the "patriarchy", but not for the wives of peasents, just for her crown.

    • @mauratlantean3002

@@DystopiaWithoutNeons Well when it comes to Alicent she is not even from the royal family so by the time she is dowager queen her authority is greatly limited. And if we are talking based on merit, she did not deserve to be regent. She has more love for the "enemy" than her own sons, and was inactive in recent council meetings, while Aemond has proven his worth as a leader already, is the king's brother, and a dragonrider for the biggest beast in the realm, of course he should be the face of the crown. As she said, she has experience, but that can be valuable in the council without holding an official title.
Not everything is about the patriarchy, this show insists on forcing this idea that men are bad and women seek peace and it's so annoying and sexist.

She could have been smart, noble and sincere, an strategist like no other, blablabla and it would have mattered little bc she's a woman, and she's by far not the only one who benefits from absolute monarchy lmao not like any of that matters to the point the original comment made, since it is indeed very funny that Alicent seems to think she is excluded from being cast aside in her own council when she would purposely humilliate Rhaenyra in front of those very same men and spend more time spreading rumours about her than taking care of her own kids.

"Was it worth the price?" is truly one of the questions of the entire dance of the dragons.
Was it worth the price, usurping a throne from a woman because of her sex ? Was it worth the price, killing your nephew ? Was it worth the price, cutting the head off a child in his bed ? Was it worth the price, forcing your daughter and granddaughter to parade their grief through the streets ? Was it worth the price, shooting your brother out of the air because you desire the throne ? Was it worth the price, the death and the destruction wrought across the lands ? Was it worth the price, the starving and deaths of the innocent smallfolk who have been caught up in the games of high lords and ladies ? Was it worth the price, pitting the dragons, the other halves of your souls against each other and having them claw and fight and breathe fire until they drop from the sky ? Was it worth the price, losing your sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, husbands and wives ?
Was it worth the price, for a chair made of swords ?
*Was it worth the price ?*

Keep seeing people saying Aemond isn’t an experienced dragon rider… the only rider with previous battle experience during the dance is daemon from the step stones. Even rhaenys logically shouldn’t be considered a battle hardened rider, since she hadn’t even participated in any battle herself😂. That is unless the show writers decided in their own head cannon that she fought in the step stones too (which would actually make sense since even laenor fought with sea smoke there). In terms of pure dragon fights, aemond has already killed more dragons and fought more than any other Targaryen in westeros history at this point. We can relax with the team black propaganda

    So for Roshi’s question
The book doesn’t really side with anyone or make any side more likable.
Rhaenyra is a lot more wholesome in the show (she actually offered to ride to rook rest, book Rhaenyra would never)
Rhaenyra is also trying her best to avoid war in the show whereas in the books she immediately declared war (she didn’t really care about collateral damage)
Aegon being a rapist is not certain in the books (there are rumors that he touches girls inappropriately but that’s also not even certain)
The whole Criston Cole beef with Rhaenyra doesn’t even exist in the book making him more likable. He is actually just a loyal soldier like Arryk (the green twin)
Aemond doesn’t just betray his brother, It was just the only way to defeat Rhayns.
Alicent and Criston Cole crap doesn’t happen.
Aegon was part of the plan (they made him look immature and dumb in the show)
The major change is making Aegon more immature, making Rhaenyra more likable and making Criston Cole more hateable.

Ah yes, the "Green sympathizers" who were always shitting on the greens in the books. This argument is so overused by people who never read the books.
And no, the story is not so shallow as "hero vs villain". What exactly is heroic about the blacks and villainous about the greens ?

@@mauratlantean3002 the show is doing a really bad job showing this as grey morality. at this point its just sexist sceheming pigs vs a poor girl who had her kingdom stolen out from under her.

Aegon and Rhanerya both have valid claims to rule. Both sides are villains

@@mauratlantean3002many of the people who support the blacks have read the books .
Get your head out of your ass the dance is not a special conflict it has heros and villains like any other story because that's how stories work .
So in your mind honoring the kings will and seating his rightful hier and overthrowing corrupt tyrants isn't heroic? And commiting kinslsying and slathering thousands of innocent people isn't villainous? Please get those blinders off buddy the greens are fucking villains the books are even more obvious about it , it's ok to like villains but don't lie and act like they aren't villains.
