Filipino Reactor. Keeping it real and natural.
I am Nephi Acaling. I am native to Bacolod City but currently living outside the Philippines due to job assignment. I’ve lived in different countries like Singapore, Japan and United States due to job assignments. I was in the US when I started this channel thus the confusion to some where I am truly based.
At a time, I was a band vocalist performing every Friday and Saturday night at a local bar chain but recently decided to quit from my band to focus on my TH-cam Channel and my full-time job as an engineer.
I was a member of the Filipino Voice Symphony where I was taught by professional chorale singers (e.g. former soprano from UP Madrigal Singers). Our choral group actually bagged the Gold Medal in the International A cappella Championships held in Singapore in 2011.
I was the Glee Club president and was a trainer for various singing competitions when I was in the university - all these were humbling experiences for me.
WHAT IS THE GOAL?
My mission is to promote music among different regions and try to make people from different countries relate to each other through music and singing. I have always believed that even small gestures in understanding similarities and differences towards others may actually lead to greater awareness about countries and their people.
In this modern world full of things that divide humanity, it is but perfect to put efforts in re-uniting and building bridges among all of us.
I have come to a point of trying to find a greater purpose in life, something beyond just being happy for a moment. Happiness in life is more meaningful if we choose to be useful, be honorable, be compassionate, and make a difference.

Awalnya penyanyi Indonesia. Habis itu penyanyi Indonesia yg dr Batak. Abis itu fokus ke penyanyi Batak semua. Semakin mengerucut ke Lapo2, ke anak2 kecil, ke kakak2 sm kawannya ngecover..tiba2 udah datang aja dia ke Siantar..

The translation of _lapo_ can also mean a "restaurant" rather than a "cafe" though. The word _lapo_ and its definition as a "restaurant" exists in other languages as well, cmiiw.

That's usual the Bataknese man can play guitar.. I love when went to my village in Tarutung and heard they play guitar and singing at night under the sky.. so beautiful and lovely moments.

Actually, _Kedai Tuak_ literally does not mean "coffee shop", it literally translates to "palm wine shop". Palm wine is a relatively common drink there, imo.

Wow tuak we also have tuak here in Malaysia...but its meaning is differ for east coast and west coast region..tuak in east coast is not yet alcoholic and usually refer tu 'nira' in west coast..but tuak ni west coast is already considered alcoholic..this is just the meaning of the word is different but the essence of the drink still the same

Yes, when you have batanese friends, it's a common stuff to hangout and jamming like that. When I was in the college back at early 2000's, I lived in dorm, in Jogjakarta and every night I always hangout, jamming with my bataknese friends and we're going to music studio every weekend. They're born with special voice as a package 😂

If you go to North Sumatera, especially Tapanuli region, you will find many talent like this even better, all is natural and otodidak singer/ musik with some drink called "Tuak" made from coconut.
if ai'm not wrong, you said "tuak"?.. it's same called in Indonesia for a traditional fermented drink, from several provinces.

Hi nephi, fyi that's local alcohol drink from north sumatera they call it tuak just for chilling and singing songs in small and local bar we call it lapo tuak, bataknese always get chill and have small conversation like that
i can't sing a high notes while smiling, sitting, and playing guitar at the same time. i haven't even seen any famous international singers could do that. that's just a pure passion.
they can sing since the first preacher bring music and rhythm to batak land, after that they can sing through harmony (first voice, second, third and fourth), thanks to the preacher

It's common for us (bataknese) to sing with harmony.. and if you come to north sumatera (Medan or Toba area), you will see there are so many place called "lapo" (place that you see in this video where you can chill, drink and sing)

Their vocal technique is amazing bro, we north Sumatran usually have a lot of high vocal singers same quality as the Philippines, but in Indonesia people prefer mediocre people, Especially at dangdut

its called tuak in Sarawak too, In Sabah we call it tapai, or lihing. I had to replay a few times. Batak sounds so similar to Kadazan / Dusun language. Harmonising while drinking tuak, what a mood!
