Filipino Reactor. Keeping it real and natural.
I am Nephi Acaling. I am native to Bacolod City but currently living outside the Philippines due to job assignment. I’ve lived in different countries like Singapore, Japan and United States due to job assignments. I was in the US when I started this channel thus the confusion to some where I am truly based.
At a time, I was a band vocalist performing every Friday and Saturday night at a local bar chain but recently decided to quit from my band to focus on my TH-cam Channel and my full-time job as an engineer.
I was a member of the Filipino Voice Symphony where I was taught by professional chorale singers (e.g. former soprano from UP Madrigal Singers). Our choral group actually bagged the Gold Medal in the International A cappella Championships held in Singapore in 2011.
I was the Glee Club president and was a trainer for various singing competitions when I was in the university - all these were humbling experiences for me.
WHAT IS THE GOAL?
My mission is to promote music among different regions and try to make people from different countries relate to each other through music and singing. I have always believed that even small gestures in understanding similarities and differences towards others may actually lead to greater awareness about countries and their people.
In this modern world full of things that divide humanity, it is but perfect to put efforts in re-uniting and building bridges among all of us.
I have come to a point of trying to find a greater purpose in life, something beyond just being happy for a moment. Happiness in life is more meaningful if we choose to be useful, be honorable, be compassionate, and make a difference.

As Bataknese, we start to sing since very young age. At church, at padi field, while farming. Every where. So most of Bataknese know how to sing, and joint the choirs.

I come from East Java. North Sumatra, North Sulawesi, Maluku, and East Nusa Tenggara peoples are well known have the good voices. Sing is a part of culture at this regions. They are not trained well talent, but they believe this is a gift from God.

For us, singing is a usually actv. When we hangout with friends or familly we always singing while drinking tuak (tradition drink). If you come to North Sunatera i can acompany to see the palces we always singing in the evening. Thats we call LAPO... we can join singing with all the people there...

The Bataks are Austronesian speakers, but it is not known when the Batak ancestors first settled in Tapanuli and East Sumatra. Language and archeological evidence show that Austronesian-speaking people from Taiwan had moved to the Philippines and Indonesia around 2,500 years ago, namely in the age of the young stone (Neolithic). [3] Because until now no Neolithic artifacts (the Stone Age of Youth) were found in the Batak region, it can be presumed that the ancestors of the Batak migrated to North Sumatra in the metal age.
In the 6th century, Tamil traders from India established a trading city called Barus, which was located on the west coast of North Sumatra. They trade Barus limestone which is cultivated by farmers in the interior. Barus lime from high-quality Batak so that it becomes one of the export commodities besides incense. In the 10th century, Barus was attacked by Srivijaya. This led to the displacement of Tamil traders from the coast of Sumatra [4]. In subsequent periods, the Barus limestone trade began to be dominated by Minangkabau traders who established colonies on the west and east coast of North Sumatra. Their colonies stretched from Barus, Sorkam, to Christmas [5].
Until now, theories are still being debated about the origin of the Batak Nation. Starting from Formosa Island (Taiwan), Indochina, Mongolia, Mizoram and the most controversial Ten Lost Tribes of Israel

Well, actually the Bataks people are like a melting pot. Yes, when it comes to the language they are classified as an Austronesian speaker. But when it comes to the culture, its a melting pot between the pre-historic of Sundaland, hoahbinhian, dongson, indian and lately by western.
For your info, the updated info, many artefacts/tools from the pre-historic era were found, such as kapak perimbas, kapak genggam, kapak lonjong, kjokkenmodinger, etc some of them were found in my own field/kebun in the regency of Toba.
According to the Peter Bellwoods book, he found the activities of human in some areas of Toba caldera about 7000 years ago in Humbang, Silindung and Uluan. So its probably by the Sundaland people.
When it comes to the genetic, the Bataks people are mix of some ancestors that came from many areas. The Bataks Y-DNA consists of K-M526, O-M95, O-M119, O-P203, O-M110, R-M124.
The first one is K-M526, known as Sundaland people that settled in Sundaland about 50.000 years ago (before the ice melt). Sundaland is a land that including Sumatera, Java, Borneo, Peninsula, Siam Gulf, Southern China Sea, Java Sea, Malacca Strait. Imagine, that was a huge dry land before. And they were splitted in the holocen era ends and we call it as 'banjir besar'. FYI, K-M526 is the great ancestor of the haplogroup Y-DNA O (East and Southeast Asian), P, Q (known as Siberian, Central Asian, Inuit/Eskimo, Native American), R (Indian, Eastern European, Western European), and S. Can you imagine that the people of European, Siberian, Indian even Native American were coming from Sundaland.
The second one is O-M95, mostly found in Austroasiatic speaker.
The third one is O-M119 mostly found in Daic speaker.
The fourth one is O-P203 and O-110 mostly found in Austronesian speaker (but this portion in Bataks is less than 10%). There is a history of this one, where they were coming. Fernand Mendez Pinto, a Portuguese in Malacca about 1530 AD wrote a book about the war between Aceh and Batak country. The King of Batak asked Pinto to help them. The King of Batak already got a coalition from Minangkabau, Inderagiri, Borneo and LUZON. Luzon is the key where these O-P203 and O-M110 coming. It was from Philippines nowdays. After the war (yeah, the coalition of The King of Batak was defeated by Aceh) the people of Luzon and Borneo did not go home to Luzon and Borneo, but stay and mix marriage with the people of Bataks. It told us much, why so many Tagalog adopted in Bataks language (esp. the bad words 😂).
And the last one is R-M124, mostly found in India. They were coming to Batakland in the camphor era circa 2 BC - 1000 AD.

You can easily find kids singing like them in Toba area, there are thousands Judika in Toba Batak North Sumatra, most of Latin singer in Indonesia comes from Batak, you can find them in almost all 4-5 star hotel/cafe, Batak people born to sing. Saya bangga jadi orang batak yg tinggal di kampung. Karna penyanyi batak yg terkenal maupun trio yg ada di indonesia ini semua dari kampung dari pakpak, dolok sanggul, sidikkalang, toba, siantar, lubuk pakam,tebing tinggi, Bukan dari kota medan
