Mitch, thank you for this great video. To all of your stiff people out there, I am like you. 20 years of stiffness, precipitated by childhood trauma, and a traumatic accident at age 16, that then escalated over time to body closing up and fear of movement, resulting in extreme stiffness.
This year. I finally took the leap in January on my journey of opening up, and what an incredible journey it has been. 7 months in, of almost daily 2 hour mobility work, have taught me the following
    1. There is a serious gap for very stiff people on TH-cam. most youtubers moves are not suitable nor effective.
    2. 7 months of daily work (2 hours) and I just feel like I'm starting to open up the stuckness.Yes, it takes this long, and the longer ur stiff, the longer it will take to reverse it. Patience is key. I would say one year of daily work will bring you to a baseline.
    3. You will not have clarity, and recovery is not linear. Be comfortable with a lot of uncertainty, not sure whether you are doing the right things, and not seeing progress on some days esp in the earlier stage.
    4. if you are not making some progress and still stuck after years, you are most likely being not doing enough in terms of intensity and frequency. i know, because i tried fo years to solve this but made no real progress until this year, when i became consistent, doing it daily and spending 2 hours.
    5. There is a diff between tension and stiffness. Stiffness is that "glued stuckness" in your tissues and joints, and that needs to be rolled out, stretched out, mobilised, and strengthened. tension is the accumulated stress/emotions that you have held over the years. solving stiffness can help to alleviate alot of tension too, but not entirely.
    6. Stress is a big contributor to tension. if you are in a stressful environment, you need to get out asap because it radically affects your recovery journey.
    7. Sleep and rest is a big part of your recovery as well.
    8. Taking action is key. Don't wait for the perfect content, the aha moment, another "free" workout download that will magically solve your problem. There is no magic pill. It's constnatly trying alot of diff moves and gradually seeing progress over time.
    9. I would say that as a general rule of thumb: work on your hips, core, back, quads, hamstrings, chest. this will give you the biggest gains.
    10. People who are stuck will feel like they are stuck in a shell. their soul wants to do more but their body is holding them back.
    11. find your purpose and reason for why. this will give u the motivation to keep going. for me, i wanted to (a) have a better quality of life (b) live to my fullest potential (c) have a family (d) fear of living like this for rest of my life. these kept me going!
All the best my fellow stiff people!

Incredible reflection. Thanks a bunch for that. WOW.
10 is huge. It amazes me that you found this too.
When you are stuck, parts of your being (essence, self) can’t be expressed. And once it’s allowed to express a new layer of joy is opened up.
      Keep going my friend.

I've learned a lot from your videos and things are starting to finally unlock a bit. The big tip that helped me was not the specific stretches but on exploring your body and how it moves. I was able to find some "glitches" and imbalances. Spots where I could move easily in one angle or stretch but the other side was tight or locked up. One hip was a bit more forward than the other. The really big one for me was that I've always been a runner and pronator so my ankles were rolled in. When I straightened my ankles, and stretched that way my hips could internally rotate much better and it improved my hip mobility a ton! Just chipping away at it and finding things here and there. Being calm and using breath to help my stretching is something I'm doing now. Also, another thing that I've learned is once you get an improvement in your range of motion use it and strengthen which seems to lock in the change. Anyhow, appreciate your channel and I laugh thinking back how I would try these random static stretches hoping it would change something or some radical mobility routine that didn't more harm than good.

I think of the stiffness as shrink wrap tightening around the muscles and fibers and limiting our mobility and range of motion. Sometimes before going to bed, I take some cannabis and stretches in front of the mirror and focus on the muscles to hold the stretch and then I just stretch and pull and tighten those muscles in the back to stretch my chest or whatever part of the body that I need stretched, for some reason, it feels so much better when I do it like that and I feel like I get more mobility and range of motion and I can go through the pain and actually feels good and loosen things up. I can stretch further and deeper than I normally do. And then the next day at the gym, I know which muscles to strengthen and work on to hold the stretch from the night before

      Love it. Thanks for sharing.
The active component is really good. You’re teaching your body how to be in that position. Cannabis will help with the nervous system release 👍
      Keep movin.

Increase your video’s volume. You are much quieter than others and I can barely hear. Your speaking is good but the mic level is not.
