    I hope you two realize that there are a lot of us patiently waiting for next video. I’m sure I can speak for all the others watching that we absolutely love your videos guys. The intro is unbelievable and breathtaking of how well it is put together. Here are my words of encouragement to you guys. Post more videos more often so you can get your TH-cam partnership. Then you will get your Google ad sense and you will start making money for what you’re doing..

      Hello, diesel stop! It is great to hear how much you enjoyed our videos and the scenery from our area! We are still semi-new to TH-cam and making these types of videos. We began our channel as a part-time hobby to update our friends and family, it has grown to a larger audience faster than we imagined. Generating quality full-time TH-cam content would greatly change our original intended plans in Alaska. I am sure you know from your channel that TH-cam can consume a lot of time. We were able to start our TH-cam partnership about four months ago and it has generated some income that we never anticipated. It is too early to say what will happen with our channel but as of now, we intend to keep sharing our adventures and projects whenever possible. Also wanted to say if we ever met in person we could probably have interesting conversations about your TH-cam channel because I also made my living working on b and c series engines for many years. I am still relying on those antiques today to build our new home in Alaska i am sure you noticed haha.

    What I love about your channel is there are no gimmicks just honest beautiful coverage of your life and your everyday struggles to build your life together.
    Wondering were you ever bikers before all this ??

      @northtoalaska2022  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! When you say gimmicks are you speaking about TH-camrs selling sponsored products? We do not plan to do that because we do not like to watch commercials ourselves haha. We understand a lot of TH-camrs make good commissions on that stuff but we have no desire to convince anyone they need to buy anything. I would not claim to be a biker although I did grow up on dirt bikes and I had a Harley for a while. That being said back east we have family and a lot of friends that live the biker lifestyle. 🍻

    We live on tank water collected from house and shed roof. Its filtered through two types of filter to go into the house. Our tanks are 2@5000 gals and 3 @1000 gals. Queensland has a wet and dry season for rain. We collect enough each wet to last the year running the normal house needs. Much nicer to drink than town water that tastes like chemicals.

    The reason your spring water tastes so good as it has only been drank by a couple dinosaurs, 3 caribou and maybe a bear or 2. Where all the city water in the lower 48 states gets drank & pee'd that many times in each city up stream, think about that city folks!!

    You have an awesome system going and spring water is the best water in the world. When I was a kid a hundred years ago, LOL we had a hand pump in the middle of the yard about two hundred feet from the house and in the middle of winter when it was 20 to 30 degrees below zero the hand pump would freeze up. We had to melt snow to pour on the hand pump to get it to work so we could pump water. I don't know if you have any idea how much melted snow it takes to fill a bucket, but I can tell you that it would take hours to unfreeze that damn pump just to freeze up again when you were done. Your system is awesome compared to that. Love your site and what you are doing with your homestead.

      Wow! Thanks for sharing your story, the frozen hand pump sounds like a lot of work in the cold months. 🥶 this spring system will be interesting to see if it has more issues at colder temperatures. Hopefully not, but time will tell!

      Yes! We are very grateful to have it. Driving to the local water fillup down here was about an hour round trip and time to fill the jugs, 8 dollars in fuel, and a few dollars for the water. It felt unproductive. We are hopeful to complete the spring project before next winter to make it more convenient.

    5 gallon food grade bucket then use uniseal instead of bulkhead fittings. Alternatively 1” male threaded pvc with o-ring & a 1” conduit nut you would find in the electrical section.

    • @northtoalaska2022
      @northtoalaska2022  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It could work with the drawback of UV damage causing the thin bucket to become brittle as we mentioned. Since this is the primary water source that we depend on every day and the plastic is exposed to extremely low temperatures I think we made the best investment for a reliable spring box for many years to come.

    There’s nothing like spring water, I remember it from when we were young and went camping in the glens of Scotland, beautiful fresh water. Then again when I was older and worked and lived at a distillery, all our water came from the same spring that fed the water to the distillery, washed the clothes quite nicely as well. Total pleasure 🌸 thank you for sharing guys, it’s a total pleasure watching you, take care, oh and I love the gun Chris goes around with strapped on, what’s the likelihood of really needing it, is it so dangerous 🌸

      The spring water is great! Thank you for sharing your story from Scotland! We are glad that you enjoyed our video 🙂 The wildlife is mostly peaceful here but the moose have been known to stomp people, and in the news, a hiker was mauled by a brown bear just a few weeks back close to our area. It is one of those things that is better to be prepared and not need it here. We do have a lot of moose living among us and bears do pass through our property.

      Why do people start their comment with “y’all” but then just say “you” the rest of the comment? If they’re really a folksy, country, southerner wouldn’t they sat it all the time? Besides the plural of y’all is all y’all, not both of you.

    Another hard day of work at homestead
    Have you thought of having a ram pump with pressure tank on top of pipe to get added pressure to water which can help to increase the height and distance you can push water to.
    Also there is a better option from bunyip pump it’s from Australia and they have different models priced from $2-3.5k it’s a heavy duty pump system,expensive but lasts for every.

    • @northtoalaska2022
      @northtoalaska2022  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I am curious about the bunyip system, I will need to research the topic. I do like the idea of a ram pump! Unfortunately from my research, we do not have enough gpm or elevation drop to make even a small 3/4 ram pump operate. Also, frozen ram pump in the winter months could be an issue. It seems in our situation the best option is going to be an insulated spring house with a submersible well pump. We will update everyone in the spring with an update on the progress after the ground is not frozen.

    Did you have your spring water tested? Even if the spring water is clear and great tasting it could still have microbes (bacteria, viruses, protozoa, parasites) that are something to be concerned with. Testing is cheap to send off a sample and get the results and recommended yearly

    • @northtoalaska2022

      Hello, We did invest in lab testing for coliform, arsenic, and metals/ minerals. The water meets drinking standards out of the ground from this spring. We filter our drinking water with a Berkey filter system to remove extra sediment but it is nice to know when washing dishes and showering the unfiltered spring water is 100% ok.

I looked up the average temperature in your area, it seems like Kootenay is slightly warmer than our southern Kenai Alaska region. You may not need to winterize your spring at all if it is free-flowing like ours.

    • @CCRider5312
      @CCRider5312 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Why Melt the snow when they have spring water. Spring water would be much better than water from snow. Especially considering so many toxins from airplanes, automobiles ect is in the snow. Much more than would be in that spring water. The snow is so light & fluffy in Alaska they’d have to melt a 2 ton dump truck load of snow to get 20 gallons of water.

    • @Chris_at_Home
      @Chris_at_Home ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are living in a RV so space could be an issue. I melt snow at our off-road cabin. It’s slow and if not done in an enclosed container it adds a lot of humidity to the place. I use a plastic 20 gallon FDA approved trash can on a stand not far from the wood stove. I put a spigot near the bottom to fill 5 gallon containers to use at the sink. In the summer I collect rainwater and have indoor plumbing except for the toilet.

      @krissbartlett we had an abnormal warm spell right after this video and rain mostly melted our snow, but it has been steadily snowing again this week and it is accumulating. The spring is convenient in its current state compared to other available means. In an emergency, we could melt snow as a last resort but it has not been necessary.

    • @northtoalaska2022
      @northtoalaska2022  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @chris-at-home you are spot on, we do not have a lot of space in the RV to store water. The door opening will not allow most large tanks to be brought inside. We are using a 45-gallon food-grade barrel that just fits in the narrow doorway. It is hooked up to a 12-volt water pump that feeds a secondary water line system inside the RV so nothing freezes. The original water lines in the RV are run in areas that freeze in winter and can not be used. But the 45 gallons is enough for a few days of military showers and washing dishes. It is convenient to go get more water from the spring whenever needed. 🙂

    And this is no criticism, but living in a freezer for 6 solid months out of the year just seems crazy.
    Just a perpetual state of work.

    • @northtoalaska2022
      @northtoalaska2022  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I honestly would not expect anyone else to understand my thought process. I can say that not everywhere in Alaska is the frozen underworld for 6 months a year that cable TV and social media have led some to believe. Coming from a state that had snow and cold winters, it's not that much of a change winter wise in my opinion. I will not argue that living off the grid could be a perpetual state of work in itself without having all the proper functioning utilities in place. However, working 50 to 60-hour weeks to make payments on bills and a mortgage is the same perpetual work schedule or worse and is often connected to a 30-year mortgage agreement.
