Another Fantastic film James, thank you. Again you have helped me enjoy an exhibition Artwork that not so long ago I wouldn't have given two minutes of looking. I Love Ben Pritchard's Paintings and Drawings. I felt a soft spot for his Piece 'Inside Painting.', the colours are Beautiful and I thought his piece 'Cold Day.' reminded me of a close up from a Paul Gauguin painting, as though Ben had zoom in on a Gauguin painting and transferred it into a larger dimension. Another reason why I Loved Ben's work is that at an initial glance his paintings look "Slapped-Dashed", but then as you zoom in with the camera, I realised how work-on and thought-out Ben's painting were, it showed that he had worked into them and built-up the paintings, until that final layer. Thank you James and Thank you Kate.
What a stellar show. His brute handling of the paint, the clever and simplistic compositions, it all greatly appeals to me. Your comments and close ups on the art are always enlightening and I really appreciate Ben coming on camera to speak. The musician was just as good. Greetings from Philadelphia.
This is one of my favorite artists that you have profiled. There is a modernist feel to the work that I really appreciate. Makes me think of Motherwell. Thanks.
James - Thank you so much for sharing your trips to the New York galleries. I am an amateur painter, and your videos help me stay in touch with what other painters are doing. I think it's interesting he mentions he just uses linseed oil to extend his paint. Looking at some of those pieces, I am just wondering if he is using some galkyds, as they do a good job of showing the brush strokes.
Thanks !!! Everything you say is clear and obvious to me. I don't at all dislike this man's work, and it seems to fit in with the styles and attitudes of the day. Kate, say something! Thanks
Interesting stuff! This is just my expertless opinion, but a thin old-school slat frame would certainly dress up or finish off certain paintings. Although, I do realize that the largest &/or more complex ones probably display better au naturale. An artist's signature & date are nice to have too, for future's sake, if nothing else. Anyway, thanks for the in-depth tour, James. Keep up the great & important work!
The Peter, Ben mentioned is Peter Acheson, one of the early Williamsburg painters from the 1990s and a friend of Chris Martin, Kathy Bradford, Bill Jensen and Margret Lewczuk (among others). You can check out a Kalm Report on him here... th-cam.com/video/vLzRSZqwqXU/w-d-xo.html
Maybe it's just current times but there's simply no good art below 50 years of age.. Pritchard seems like Bess without a soul in a single work of his. Please more 20th century, James!
Not impressed with these at all. The colors look almost dirty. The reds and yellows look like cheap paint and the whites looks like Zinc white with too much thinner and the forms and shapes just look lazy
Something wrong in much of the art world...are we on a different planet? Why should anyone study fine arts when all that is taught seems to be no longer important or worse thought of as weakness.
We love you James -- would never see this work without you. Thank you Kate
Great show ! Thanks for showing!
Thank you for these posts
Much appreciated
Thank you James and Kate, keep warm and safe in wonderful NYC.

Very much see the "close up from a Paul Gauguin" quality in Cold Day.
Thanks for the observations of this excellent exhibition of Ben Pritchard's paintings. And as always, thank you, Kate!
Literally turned on this video and got to painting.

Thank you Kate. A refreshing show. A fun evening out.
Incredible paintings. So, so good.
Boa pintura, pinceladas muitas vezes bastante gestuais.
Crazy, weird, unique works.
Nice report. He’s got an excellent use of color

Thank you for your videos. You do the artists a great service.
I like Ben's work. Nice and raw!

Love this work! A painter's painter!
Lovely, refreshing! Thanks a lot.
GREAT COLORS BEN!!!
the work at 6:29 reminds me of Joe Bradley's style

--- Is there a catalogue by Ben Pritchard?? ---
Greetings from Duesseldorf!
reminds me on Forrest Bess, Alfred Jensen and others, very special!
I like his technique
fresh simple spontaneous -i like it
👏👏👏
I would love to know what Peter was mentioned near the end there, and what was the wisdom spread in Ben's brain?

@@jameskalm thank you, I'll check them all out.
James, excellent videos but the sound is uneven!
Hey James Kalm could you please review or visit the new Florian Krewer exhibition at Michael Werner/Tramps? Greetings from Bavaria!
I love the brushwork in the Paintings. Please steady the camera. Constantly moving the camera around is irritating to watch.
There is something surprising to painterly mixed media by token of complex emergent simples.
Meanwhile, I have trouble getting attention for my 3D optical illusion paintings with original tropes.
Royal academy that’s 30k a year for foreign students, wow.
nice
👍
I would like to have you critique my art sometime
How that anxiety now?

weak
Every bad artist needs a home. I guess this one find it here.

Love dirty colors !
@@cliffdariff74 Update: I took a second look and like them a lot now.
So my little brother is a great artist, he's the new picasso. Pure shit people
I have to say.......terrible.....
Why
Don´t like these paintings, nothing impressive
What a load of bollocks..
Absolute crap. “Artists”, dealers, galleries, and patrons all playing a fantasy game. Side note: ditch the masks.
