A European here. How strong do these famous chess hustlers tend to be? I mean ELO-wise? I've only seen a couple of videos, and they weren't exactly kickass, but it's too small a sample for jumping to conclusions. How strong are the strongest ones you can come across? And are they capable of playing proper sound chess, or does it mostly revolve around tricks (I mean opening traps, intimidation by aggressive play etc.)?
SOME of them are very strong, at least 2000 rating. Others are not so strong, and rely (as you say) on tricks & psychological intimidation. Plus: most of the people they play are not very good.
I'm sure this has been said by now, but 24. Qd4! gives a decisive advantage, forking black's knights. 24...Nd7 25. Nd5 Rh7 Nxf6 26. Qxf6 with Nxe4 to follow, vacating the square for the bishop and black has had it.
Now I get it, these videos are played in slow motion so they can reach the 10 min mark. That's why these videos feel so spacey and that's why that guy speaks so weird. Play the video at 1.25 speed

When I was in NYC I would have a chess board and four chess-pieces, and set them up in Union Square: king & knight & bishop of one color, and king of the other color. For $1 I would offer a chess lesson: how to checkmate with only a knight and a bishop. It's totally do-able, but difficult for average chess-players. So it's the perfect chess lesson, and I would always be able to keep the dollar.

chess twins are you guys developing a reputation with these hustlers or no I ask because your videos usually show decisive victories, do you have games where you lose by chance or in general really strong games from people who are not asking for money to play?
I don't understand why the hustler is hovering his hand over the clock. As a chess arbiter I would have given a warning to a player that kept doing that. And he also move a piece twice in one of his moves.
NO: he's saying "chess player" --- inviting passersby to play a game with him. There are about a dozen hustlers there, each with a board & pieces, some with nobody to play against.
A 3 dollar game vs a hustler! That’s an automatic guarantee of a win. See how good you are wow! Hey why don’t we up the stakes, since you beat me once it should be an easy win. In fact let’s make it 30$ since you just won.
Ideally that might be true. But, realistically, as an unemployeed individual in a city with an excess of people over jobs, hustling chess-games might be a good way to earn some $$$$$
You could really make good money off of that if you are good at chess 5$ per match, maybe 100$ prize if you lose and play random people in 3 minute chess games... Youd end up making around 500/ day, which is 100k on a bad year, 170k on a good one
When blacks on 4.01 if he pushes his light square bishop an takes whites white bishop. He could of gone 3 pieces up as that queen swap was in his favour..
I'm pretty new in chess but how can this guy be a hustler all his moves , didn't have much thought put into them and hardly considers the consequences which are so obvious
It wouldn't be allowed in tournament play, but I believe the usual rule in NYC street chess is "clock move" -- you are not committed to your move until you press the clock.
He made a move, took his hand off the Queen then changed his mind and moved it again. Saying 'where was I? Here?' you should have called him on it. These guys will cheat when they start to lose.

NO: the black queen would still take the white rook. This way, white knight at least gets a black bishop.
