      We had almost no fires last year-this year will be looking for naturals, and exploring more second year burns-but from what I have heard up here they don't really fruit much after first year.

    Beautiful morel! What kind of trees do morel relate to out west? East coast it's mainly elm, ash and apple tree. I've heard burn sites can trigger fruiting.

      Most Morels I have found here in CO have been with pine trees (various species) in the mountains above 7,000' and cottonwoods along low lying streams below 7,000'

    • @j-wilky
      @j-wilky 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seems to be that they grow, oddly enough, around most conifers here. Burn sites seem to have the most ridiculous numbers as well, seen huge fruiting around burns

    Do morels taste good?? How would you describe the taste??

    • @808zhu
      @808zhu 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They taste awesome. Very potent mushroom flavor. Missouri recipe:
      Cut mushrooms into halves & rinse. Let dry until just damp then dip them in plain white flour. Make sure to coat them thoroughly. Next, heat up enough vegetable oil in a skillet that they can float in. When it's very hot, drop in enough mushrooms to fill the skillet. Cook until just brown & crispy on the outside.
      Use tongs to grab them out of the skillet & put them on a plate with paper towels underneath. Salt to taste.

    Heavy baskets, never a bad thing.. awsome video. Subscribed. We will be heading out west to big sky country towards the end of August would love to come across a few of these.. How high in elevation where you about? Any tips or suggestions about the high alt. Morels ? Were used to picking blacks in the Minnesota woods

    • @passionateforager4439
      @passionateforager4439  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi-sorry for such a long silence-Did you make it out last summer?-Old timers said it was the best season in 30 years for all mushrooms.Here in NW Montana we aren't really "big sky" country, even though people call it that. We had few fires last year, so Im not sure what this spring will bring. These were 6500 ft-we also have other species up high and not a lot of pickers after morel season. If you come out again LMK-

  • @Tusslrussl
    @Tusslrussl 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    was it a recent burn? or was it 2+ years?

    • @passionateforager4439
      @passionateforager4439  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      howdy-next year burn-I have picked extensively (not commercial) in Washington , Montana, Arizona-always the next spring after summer fires the best. In Arizona, even picked many many in October after fires in June ( no winter cycle)-
      I hope to video this occurence, it was before I started the channel. Also in Arizona up to 3 years after the fire still productive. Why these situations would both occur in the same place a mystery. ( definitely much less fruiting even the 2nd year in the interior NW)

    Looks like that's a stand of hemlocks.

    • @passionateforager4439
      @passionateforager4439  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's pretty mixed-a lot of subalpine fir, as it was pretty high-6500 ft. , and a north slope- The other shots of big grays/blondes was also about that high, with more lodgepole. We do get hemlock from about the Flathead Valley west. The valleys in NW Montana have as low as 18 inches precipitation, to 60 plus up high.

    Why the hell would you leave so much of the fruiting body behind? It literally hurts watching you cut the stem in half.

    What are these so ??? here where I am now I have millions of them, and I don't know how to destroy them definitively because those here say they are poisonous! yet they smell nice. My dogs ate them and I stopped them, but then they won them, and they always ate them but they didn't die! Now it's my first! time I see this in UTube! What should I do with it? Now, seeing how many videos there are in this regard, I think I would like to finally bring them to analyze some samples, there are so many! Whole hill is full! Could it be that these are worth something and everyone has this under their noses without understanding it ?! Well, frankly, the mob here doesn't know anything about anything, it's really TOO stupid, ignorant and full of strange prejudices ... Do you think they hate for example my Lauri, the Dafinie, they say bad luck, and of these mushrooms they say it same for superstition, pro-pseudo-religiosity to say the least medievalistic !! .... So also about these mushrooms, my hill is practically covered with them, they say they bring ... "bad" and various similar bullshit, .... Well, I think, however, to bring them to a capable Analyst. If anyone wants, rewrite me and thanks for the videos.
