SUNLU Filament Connector and PLA+ 2.0

  • Hi everyone!
    Just a quick test of the NEW ‪@SUNLU‬ Filament Connector using some of the New PLA+ 2.0.
    I've tried a number of different filament connecting methods from the cheap metal tool to the DIY printable tools in a number of ways and none were as easy as this. I will be testing further filament types from PLA right up to nylon to see how well it does but I'm expecting good results so far with the results of this trial by fire method I did today.

    I don't have much more info yet regarding the little tubes as to cost of replenishment of them so I'll try to include that in my next video

    Thanks for the the testing. I was just wondering how much better the new PLA+ 2.0 was compared to the older PLA+ from Sunlu? they were advertising ABS like toughness but I find that a little difficult to take at face value. Thanks

      Other than a few decorative prints. I haven't printed any functional items yet with it. I did a little Thor type hammer and the dragon tanto knife models that I found on their website. Both printed very strong and the tanto blade definitely has a flexibility that you would have expected of PLA+ so as far as toughness. I would say maybe at the moment without doing further testing though I wouldn't want to commit to it. I would definitely say it would not have the heat deflective resistance that ABS does. I have actually been considering printing the Thwack hammer. I did one for a few years ago and ended up giving it to somebody as a gift. Might be a good opportunity to revisit that. You can probably see the other two objects I mentioned in some of the other videos I've done

    I had bad experience with PLA+ 2.0 after just few hours outside those get very brutal and break inside the ptfe tube of my printer and cause lots of trouble in my printer, could you guys share your experience with it? consider I put it inside the ACE box of my printer inside the room for only one night, Thanks for the nice video

      It went brittle on you? Do you print from a dryer? Usually I hear of PLA of any form going brittle if it gets moisture or if it's sat indirect sunlight or nearby it for long periods like as in weeks. I would definitely be curious what happened there. So far I've done a few prints with the PLA+ 2.0 and it has performed very well for me In fact the Dragon Tanto knife model I did from the Sunlu page Is still holding together nicely

    So where do you plug in the USB power cable ?!….

      I actually used a mobile phone charger that was good up to 4 amps. But When I used a little buck converter I have that can show me the current pulling from the supply, It never seemed to exceed 2 amps

      That was my only thought, and your info on amperage draw is great. I have an iPhone quality charger for starters…

      @jrpdigitalmentoring If you mean the 5W Apple charger I wouldn't try it on that. Only go with the 10W as that is 2 amps. Or you can probably pick up a cheap one either on Amazon or even in the discount stores

    I imagine it's not just the pre set temperature that effects the diameter, but also how hard you push the filaments together. I am sure with practice you could get better results.

      This is also true they do say press together. Also the captive area for the joint weld is fair sized but this also heats either side of the tube as expected which could allow it to slight swell under pressure. I'm working on testing all the different material types It has presets for as well that are commonly found to be used. So more to come :)
