  • After being wrongfully incarcerated at the age of 19, Lacino Hamilton fought to free himself through journalism, and by educating himself and his fellow prisoners.

    Lacino Hamilton is a writer, thinker, and activist who was incarcerated for 26 years thanks to a wrongful conviction, and was exonerated in September 2020. For more information about his case, see “Ring of Snitches: How Detroit Police Slapped False Murder Convictions on Young Black Men.” After being sent to prison, he spent four of his first six years in solitary confinement. It was there that he began to read, think critically and distinguish between expressing a desire to change and demonstrating the ability to achieve it.

    Clearing out an old house, I came across a Year Book dated 1961-1962,VCCC...Volusia County Community College, Daytona Beach Florida. This was a Black Vocational School that was birth in 1959, Before Integration. Black Advisory Committee; Black Board of Public Instruction; Black Administration; Black Faculty: Black Staff; Black Students. I knew a lot of these people growing up in my hometown that Graduated from Black Colleges and came back home to teach at VCCC so, this was amazing for me to see this part of our Local History...I Realized, we have regressed and it is hard to get back there because of Systemic Issues affecting the Afro Americans People. These People were the Educated Folks in our small town Community in Deland, 30 miles east of Daytona Beach. They were Teachers, Doctors, Adult Educators, Cosmetologists, that taught... Cosmetology, Masonry, Shoe Repair, Upholstery, Gas Installation, Electronics, Radio and Television Repair, Auto Mechanics, and, Practical Nursing. If you ask me...THIS IS WHAT WE NEED TO GET BACK TOO...*VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS.

      Collrge is a collasal scam. Colleges bang you ferocioysly for tuition and then give you a product that you cant use to get a job paying enough to retire your debt.

      @@compassioncampaigner728 Vocational schools were different and from your picture, this was way before your time. I knew the people in the pictures, from the ones who were at the top to the students. There are only a very few around now but the People had Careers and Black Businesses were plentiful. I am working on a Mural now called "Inspirations of leadership" where I am Documenting History. I paint Portraits. Right now there should be a Campaign against the cost of Education and the Government needs to do something about that and bring back Vocational Schools, Fast tracking Programs.

    So happy that you had the kind of men to guide you in prison. Your pain throughout your experience I hear you. Your mother so young, the failed system of foster care. I am grateful you had many mentors. You are another man of great inspiration as many. This discussion between the both of you all should hear, as many others. Chris Hedges, his example to help men in prisons by going to prisons to teach. Hang strong and continue to have all the connections that may help. Yes, many sections all over our country has been blown apart by the powers of GREED, and the disadvantaged placed in an unjust system. One day at a time, changes will come, we can only hope by those that care. Thank you both.❤️EDUCATION is the key 🔑It is not the of others that one should worry about, it is what we do that matters. We live with so many traumatized families. We must do better than this with new ideas 💡 You are being able to chart you life with the examples that understand empathy. Embrace love and pass it forward. The Capitalist system is corrupt, it was made that way. ❤️May I add, I support you and all those that are that are on this path of enlightenment.

    Can all in left-YT please start educating people about both: (1) the difference between right-authoritarian vs. right-libertarian; & (2) the difference between left-authoritarian vs left-libertarian? It’s long overdue. People aren’t cattle or sheep: They will understand if we educate them.
    Though we need to educate (& learn) about all the nuance.

      @@SKuLLxKruSHeR To a limited extent. But solid social data shows poverty and lack of education, job opportunities and health services are commensurate with increases in crime and social distress. It's kind of like when chickens are kept in awful conditions they can become cannibals, but in healthy conditions they are happy, peaceful egg layers...for want of a better analogy. But in the case of the USA it is also heavily over policed and criminalised because incarceration is a for profit industry. Nothing else explains why the US has 20% of the planet's incarcerated population but only 4.5% of the total global population. Unless Americans are just the biggest bunch of criminals on the planet, which I doubt...

    Excellent interview, most indeed. Being incarcerated when innocent, much worse for many years, now that is insane and incompetent governance. I wish Lacino well and for him to not be stigmatized after his wrongful conviction, imprisonment. I read at least one time during the 2000s about people who were wrongfully convicted remaining socially stigmatized after having been finally found to have been innocent all along, even when their innocence was publicly announced. The article or articles said that the social reputations of these victims was destroyed, badly damaged anyway. Etc.

Each generation fought racism and religious hatred, sometimes with our lives. I am in my mid 60's and I would like to meet you. I have listened to your entire talk. I agree with most of what you said.I do believe certain people belong in prison although dead Charlie Manson belonged in prison. Socialism does not work mainly because some people are lazy and or greedy. I believe you have more to teach me than I can teach you. I like your use of mentors, I learned from the mentors that chose me and the mentors I chose (they finally taught me or I would have knocked on their door everyday)You can find me if you want to work together. I am on Facebook but I really have no idea how it works. Good luck in the future, and am truly sorry you spent 26 years inside. I really glad I wasn’t on that jury. Science helps even the odds,but were does the money come from. If every defendant had a court appointed attorney it would level the field a bit more. I here waiting on you

      Maybe you know this already, I just find it an interesting glimpse of the brainwashing many Americans stuff. Myself too for a long time. People call CNN 'anti cop. Meanwhile, all corporate media exists to support the state. Cnn does it different from Fox, they gas light, and they ignore.. well, they ignore every thing you will see featured on this channel. And the few others like it. And the same thing goes for our leaders. There is no difference between the Right and the Left. You can read any comment section, go to any bar, and you will hear endless comments blaming Biden, blaming Trump. To varying degrees of accuracy, but they they are the same. They hold the same purpose. Joe Biden is an authoritarian Right Winger in a blue tie. Undeniably, by policy. All the "Left" presidents have been. And compared to the rest of the West, they are FAR Right. But what do you hear from people? "Joe Biden is communist! He is defunding the police. He hates police wants prisoners free!". Biden chose an ex cop as a running mate, wrote the crime bill, Biden just added 100k more cops. None of this unique, but it's maddening to look in recognizing THAT'S how indoctrinated so many of our neighbors are. They think the guy doing that, and pushing 0 change, 0 of his own policies, is a "communist cop hater". How as a country do we come back from that? From a public that believes Draco is too soft on crime, and McCarthy is a communist?

    • @glintinggold
      @glintinggold 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure, it's unbelievable-- but truth is stranger than fiction! It is scary knowing who's in charge, because it's the cabal of wealthy businessmen who took us over in the seventies, eighties and nineties in a slow coup. This simply means we are only powerful in numbers, and need to up those numbers with education which the Real News is doing, and doing well.

    Both of you two brothers are the most intelligent brothers I’ve heard in a very long time , it’s apparently seen that you both didn’t serve the time you let the time serve you both and it did very well !
    Well said and well done , we can clearly understand you and learn a lot from you both . The most difficult men to understand out here in the public are the most educated , they’re the true criminals being those who created the prison industrial complex . And we know who we’re the intended victims in their minds , in creating such a torturous system .
    These WS devils whose only aim is anti Black racism , and what goes around comes around . Unfortunately for them they’re gonna have a rue awakening one day , because what they did to others so shall it exponentially be likewise done unto them .
