You really should contain your dump hose in something, even if in a bag. It can & will cross contaminate your fresh water hose. Plus that moisture can eventually ruin your storage bin. I found a plastic container that fits perfectly in my bin for my dump hose. With my fresh hose, I just connect the ends together. That way, no leakage from either hose. They store in the same storage bin, but my dump hose is protected from the plastic container from cross contamination. Just a little fyi.
When you are dumping your tanks it is a good idea to leave your "black water" valve open while dumping your gray. The first rush of gray water coming out will backwash slightly and clean out any stray solids that may be hanging up on your black water gate valve. If you'll try it once and get down close while you are opening your grey valve you will be able to visually and audibly observe the hose bucking and hear the water sloshing around in the black water gate valve as it gives it a kind of final rinse. You can close the black after a few seconds but I find it easier to close them both once the tanks are drained. It may take a few times, but after a few dumps you'll notice you don't get that little bit of waste water coming out when you first take off your cap to start the process. Thanks for the videos and take care~*
@@nomadicfanatic Wonder if she is still on the road somewhere giving someone else new adventures. If it weren't for the rarity of parts in rv's of this vintage, I would be happy living in 70's era retro, but with 16" rims, lol.
Thanks Eric,,,we wouldn't know the first thing about (really)anything 2 do with RV'ing tanks, etc. We don't have an RV (yet)but watching these videos are educational/practical and user friendly.Very appreciated Wetting our appetite 2 get an RV... ☺Thanks again 👍
Just discovered your channel. Thanks for the work you do. I was in the hospital with a GI bleed and came across it on my kindle fire. Keep up the good work. Joe
Thanks for the demonstration. I still need to figure out how to open the valves of my two holding tanks. The owner's manual doesn't go much into detail.
The audio was really not that bad, just one time for about 8 seconds, I've suffered way worse. Nice camera work getting all your shots and keeping continuity. You make me want to RV so bad! Take care and be safe Eric.
Like your teaching approach. One item, you touched your keys while wearing gloves used after washing the gray water hose. Do the keys get cleaned afterwards?
When we bought our used RV, the previous owner had the hoses in the same compartment. We threw the hose away and bought new ones, stored them in a container inside the RV. I should have kept them for rinsing the sewer components but was afraid I would accidently mix them, they were all white.
I've never owned a rv so I wondered how it was done. One other thing I wondered about is where do rv owners know where the dump sites are at? Thanks for sharing.
You can find RV dump sites at you local Water treatment plant. Most towns have them and will let you dump for free. You can also find them at Cabbalas stores.
Nothing like playing with the STINKY SLINKIE, lol. I would have removed the gloves before touching the car keys, but I'm sure someone had probably mentioned that.
Are u storing your freshwater hose with the sewer hose? Aren't you worried about cross contamination? Just an observation. I started following your channel after you got Bertha and now I'm excited to see u back in an RV
Video Ramblings of Matthew Yeah, I made this video almost 2 years ago and this was my first attempt to drain the tanks. Actually, the sewer hose is stored in a separate place where it fits nicely.
+Nomadic Fanatic I'm so happy to hear that! I'm about to begin full time RVing here in the next couple of months. I've just found your channel. I'm not sure if you're teaching me how to do it, or talking me out of it. I've gone from planning to do it, back to considering whether or not I'm going to do it.
last year my cousin found a 29ft Class A it has been out service for 4yr so some item like refrigerator had a foul Oder so being a new owner he took it out. also the empty the tanks took 3 untrained RVer the owner 2 pass. 1 Observer former RV owner (me) the whole task took 15-20min with only risk was using same potable water hose to clean out by stick in waste hose passenger# 2 didn't know what a black tank did holds
Nomadic Fanatic Thanks for your confidence, if you say so... Not going to argue with a pro! Oh, poor Roger Williams, what a legend! Will Smith just can not replace him in Aladdin. The Genie 🧞♂️ doesn’t have feet, but left some big shoes to fill! Irreplaceable.
Yes its pretty gross and unhealthy to have your fresh water hose lying on top of the dump hose. I have mounted a white PVC pipe under the back bumper with screw on ends to hold the dump hose. The fresh water hose is kept in a plastic bin without the ends connected so it can air dry and not get moldy. I have another hose to connect to the black tank flush which I keep in a compartment but with the ends connected so the compartment stays dry..don't care if that hose isn't 100% clean inside. You getting attacked by the rinse hose was funny. To provide a funny back to you, I once was dumping where they had a very large hose opening. When I went to grab the rinse hose and turned back..my dump hose was gone! It had slid down into the huge hole into the sewer somewhere. RV'n is an adventure..always something new happening.
+Jim David That would be neat, but the grey water holding tank is lower than the toilet outside, so you'd have to build another DC pump to get it out of the tank and up into the toilet. I'm sure someone somewhere has done this, right?
Just a little hint. Look up a device called a Sewer Solution at sewer solution dot com . The is the best investment I have ever made for draining the tanks if you have external water available. You can get them from $80 - $130 so be sure to shop around. Also I carry a can of Lysol to spray things down to kill the nasties before and after dumping. Love your vids and hope to visit you in the PNW. Chris

The water hose that fell off and sprayed all over was kind of funny thanks for the smiles lol
The look on your face after that water hose shot out... Priceless. Good Video.

Love all the trees.
You should keep your dump hose and fresh water hoses separete. I would not want to risk getting sick due to contamination.

Excellent tutorial, and thanks for wearing gloves. I'm sure you've seen some people not wearing them in their videos. That's really nasty.

ummm...plz tell me your black hose is NOT in the compartment with your fresh water???
figured you knew better but...
@@jerryjdawgsworldarnold Guess if he had a bumper, he could have stored it in there instead.

Where do you find these places to empty your tanks?
Thanks
So Helpful!! Thanks so much!!
Hi Eric just needed to know is it possible to use solar power on you're bonnet fixed I mean?
Peter Wong Bonnet? Meaning the hood over the motor or the top of the rv?
Yes please re-do... I need this badly :)
alright cool... also leveling an RV if you have a chance :) thanks
oh so no need to level class c? I thought frig doesnt work if not leveled?
ah ok... thanks :)
How long does it take to fill your freshwater tank and unload both grey and black tanks, from beginning to end?
I've never owned a rv so I wondered how it was done. One other thing I wondered about is where do rv owners know where the dump sites are at? Thanks for sharing.
You can find RV dump sites at you local Water treatment plant. Most towns have them and will let you dump for free. You can also find them at Cabbalas stores.
Or use an App called SANIDUMPS
what an incredible smell you've discovered
I just started living in an RV trailer last week... how often do you have to dump your tanks?
Me, just one person, every 10 days.
Typically the White RV Hose is for drinking water, something about the plastic in colored garden hose is toxic, you may want to check into it.
In this state, walmart sells blue drinking water hoses too.
reminds me of "national lampoons christmas vacation"
Lol, "Shitters Full."

how often are you dumping? Is that a daily practice?

OMG all I can picture on my first attempt is my hose flailing all around like a fire hose uncontrollably and shooting on me like Old Faithful LOL

dude like for legit your drinking hose is in the same bay as your shitter hose! I love your channel but nothing seems wrong about that?
robert anderson I changed that up the very next day. Seems my sewer hose was kept in a separate compartment off to the right.
Cool cool just worried about your health love the bids how Bertha doing?

Why doesn't your black ware tank use the grey water for toilet flushing,, then you only have one tank to drain?
+Jim David That would be neat, but the grey water holding tank is lower than the toilet outside, so you'd have to build another DC pump to get it out of the tank and up into the toilet. I'm sure someone somewhere has done this, right?
