  • In this video I would like to lay out the dark holy trinity that George RR Martin has hidden deep within the magic of the old gods and the old ways. I will present the evidence and even use GRRM's own words to try prove this connection and give you a framework with which to view the magic of the old ways. Weather of not you agree with me on the exact details of how things work, the overall connection will hopefully give you some help with your own theories.

A couple of obnoxious teachers in my Catholic school would brag about how confusing the Trinity is to non-Catholics and I like how George is like "it's only hard for kids."

I doubt non catholics care enough to want to understand. they're probably like ok, bye.
also here in orthodox land we have the same bs so whatever.

A god represented by multiple aspects is such a universal idea it's laughable for someone to believe it a special attribute of their own religion.

    •  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Giving the media we consume, Trinity idea is rather simple. I think it has always been.

The trinity is a patch to hide a massive contradiction between worshipping the one jealous god and jesus, and then the holy ghost 👻 that shows up every now and then.

It makes sense within its mythos

I've always thought of Lyanna as the Virgin Mary of this story, for too many reasons to go into here. But her imagery is clear, as is the imagery of Christ surrounding Jon Snow. But I don't know how Rhaegar fits in, unless GRRM is taking the Targaryen apotheosis thing literally, making Rhaegar a god. Thus, imho, Jon is more the "child of the Old Gods" than of human beings. You have wonderful theories and insight. Please keep going.

Rhaegar could be the serpent in the garden, or Lucifer before and during his fall from grace.

It could be stated to be a seven thing.
As when in the myth they talked to that Andal king that would go on conquering they said something akin to “we have always been here involved with everything and will always be” so basically it is a sort of fate constant in which a situation always manifests those seven key characters. A leader, a carer,an elder, a champion, a supporter, an innocent and a traitor(or any evil necessary or not).

Tying the main factors of the book into GRRM's childhood is brilliant; made me realize, a person stuck in the Wierwood bleeding: its a reversal of the crucifixion of jesus cross, inside the wood instead of outside, and "sucking up" blood instead of bleeding. And if you don't worship it (Catholics) you will go to a bad place lol. Great great video

Cool video. I always imagined George writing the Others as actual living beings rather than being demonic or supernatural. In the books, we've seen them about once, so its hard to draw conclusions. The show obviously turned them into the Lich King, whereas I imagine they are humanoid people with knowledge of ancient magic. Their armour is strange and their swords are cold enough to shatter other swords, but we have heard of Valyrian steel, and we have seen flaming swords, so this isn't that strange in the world of Ice and Fire.

So, maybe I’m missing something, but the clip of GRRM was him specifically saying they the Faith of the Seven is based on the Catholic Church, not the Old Gods/Green Men/Weirwood stuff. That said, he does talk about playing around with the symbolism.
I’m mostly with you on that symbolism though. been trying to put together a theory for a while now about the dichotomy of the Ice/Fire motif that permeates the series. Your theories about the way the different types of magic relate to each other is very interesting.
You have the blood magic that makes a mockery of life to bring death, then you have the Night King using his magic to make a mockery of death to bring a bizzaro form of “life.”
Now, after watching your vid(s) and your idea of the trinity, it’s got me thinking. I wonder if there is a symbolic “Trinity” like the one you’re talking about in this vid, but also a symbolic “anti-trinity” as well. Ice and Fire are elemental “opposites” at least in theme, and that theme permeates the series. It makes sense that those themes would be in the spiritual aspects of the series too. A symbolic trinity and anti-trinity, life and death, fire and ice, blood and….water maybe?
I don’t know, haven’t figured it out yet, but it is fun to think about. Nice video and interesting theories, you got yourself a new sub. Looking forward to more vids!

As long as you're continuing your series on Elden Ring's parallels to ASOIAF, Elden Ring has its own fantasy spin on the Trinity.
Marika is the "one true god", but a side character in the story comes upon Radagon, Marika's husband, during his study of the Golden Order faith. Radagon at some point either joins with Marika, or always was Marika. You can reveal this fact, which leads to that character determining that Marika and Radagon both being god is a contradiction.
In reality, when you find Marika and fight Radagon, you can see that they're both visually tied together by the presence of the Elden Ring, suspended in a cloud of shadow, inside of their chest. Once you kill Radagon, that shadow/Ring spills out of him and forms into the Elden Beast. This essentially reveals the "binity" of Marika and Radagon is in fact a trinity, where Marika is the mother god, Radagon is the son (the man and the god) and the Elden Beast is the holy spirit.
Since the Elden Beast is the also the Elden Ring, the source of runes and grace, the Elden Beast essentially lives in everyone to a lesser extent (or at least everyone with grace/runes).

  • @RealLifeIronMan
    @RealLifeIronMan 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

That really ties everything together. All magic is Life Magic (or Green magic). The "god" who fuels this magic is the werewoods and the "god" who controls this magic are the green seers (and the consciousnesses that still reside in the werewood network).

"Power resides where people think it resides."
"King's blood" only holds any power because Bloodraven recognizes people as having royal blood.
There are no true kings or gods, only people.
People decide who is recognized as kings, and people are the ones granting magic requests.

Craster's wives were convinced that the WW were " the sons" - meaning the sacrificed boy babies.
I still don't have a way to fit this idea into the story of the others or the undead armies. As IDG has pointed out, you'd have to have a WW/ Others nursery/ primary and secondary education system for transformed baby boys to turn them into Others....
I think there might be something like the legends around "Changelings" going on.

I love this, god father also has a echo in Garth Greenhand, a somehow divine figure who gives life to the weirwoods as well as is a literal father of sorts to most of the houses of the first men.
seems to me like George is telling layer after layer of the same story

I like this Trinity theory. But I don't feel like the white walkers fits in it well. The white walkers are based on Ice and death. And green magic is based on nature and life. That's like trying to mix fire and water. Maybe the third trinity instead of shadow magic is spirit magic and more tied to an indian tribal Spirit animal? Maybe the blood sacrifices of all the animals at the warewood trees gives the warg user's abilities over the animals. And also allows them to reincarnate.

as usual magic and religion holds a culture back and thus westeros will never get modern tech and indoor plumbing XD
if writings sci-fi is hard because you have to invent something new (and no, I don't consider Dune or Star wars a sci-fi they are fantasy with magic) you can always invent a cruel god that keeps ppl back for eons and eons.
we should start a "death to magic" t-shit

Interesting and convincing. Does the fire magic structure also have a trinity foundation? Volcanoes and dragons as sources of fire hot enough to destroy others and hot enough to create other-killing obsidian and metal. Disciples of fire clergy bringing dead humans to life which is really only an activation which parallels the condition of others?
On another topic, does the seven religion created in an area where the heart trees were uprooted represent a religion which is improved over the old religion?

Maya,Egyptians/Kemet, vedic and many more represents scale 4 keeping balance in universe.Alot of these civilization's would use 3 door ways with center door being higher up then other 2. 2 bring balance open door ways 2 onother dimensions. There's so much there with jyst tha trinity. Hodor is goi g 2 hold tha door open i believe 2 astro plain were bloodstone is in prisoned.Or not lmao😅😅

So like if we mix in just a bit more of Norse mythology. We have the Old God(s) hivemind. Which possibly representing old school God J*wh,Elohim, Hashem the real roots of weird shit.
Then some shepards in Asshai figure out like any animal the weirwoods, wyveryns, fire stuff in the mountians their like we figured out some goof ass adjacent science blood stuff. People get different philosophies about it. Faceless men find hivemind abohorent or maybe they are their own separate hivemind? Church of 7 try to get people to agree to peaceable land on westeros through a chorus concept.
