How in the actual fuck though does this band keep getting better...
I'd say it's their ability to adapt. They've already been through three different singers with three different styles, and have also had to work with several different bassists and guitarists over the years (excluding Will Swan).
However, I'd also say that even though they do adapt, they never leave their signature musical style (thanks to screamer Jon Mess, guitarist Will Swan, and drummer Matt Mingus being consistent members of the band) and turn into something else entirely. Their style is like a Mr. Potato Head; the style is basically the blank potato face, and all they do is slap on different accessories and pairs of eyes, lips, and ears according to the singers/instrumentalists they have. In the end, they always manage to make the best face possible.

The vocal harmonizing at 2:40 is simply on another level. There are so many layers that work together so well without it sounding like a mess. It's like a buffet for my ears.
This band does so many things incredibly well, but I think it's exactly what you described that they do best. The mixing and layering is always so beautifully smooth and makes for an amazing listening experience.

Five years later this is still one of DGD’s most unforgettable music videos. It’s relatively simple but it’s so visceral and haunting. Beautifully designed to evoke subtle horror and mixed emotions. I love it.
As a long time DGD fan, I've got to say this song really did it for me. Fall asleep every night with that first chorus playing in my head, it's so powerful. Feel like they are really maturing as a band, love the new album in its entirety.

I love ALL of the Tilian era DGD albums but Mothership will always hold a special place in my heart. I remember listening to Mothership for the first time and it was an addiction, no skips, and im pretty sure its all i listened to for weeks.

Reaver how can they even be sell outs if AL was not even aimed at any audience but their own? Paramore makes music for their fans and for themselves not for popularity or success. I mean they didn’t even have a single song on the radio and barely did any promo. AL is a great album with amazing instrumentals and beautiful lyrics, not an album to be slept on.

I have a legit theory to this MV. So the song is about love, a bad breakup to be specific, and how the guy(The one who's pride is hurt and he crashed his car) is feeling lonely and awful and basically all of the bad emotions that come with breakups. So in the video, the band isn't poisoning the people with their food. They actually made it with love. It just turns out that love is so destructive and powerful, the people got addicted to it and wanted more. They craved and desired it so much it destroyed them and killed them. I don't know, that's just my dumb theory lol.
Edit: Lol it's been two whole years since I made this comment that's kinda crazy.
To put context, I made this when I had just started my sophomore year of high school, now a senior. DGD has since become one of my favorite bands again(I listened to them back during the downtown battle mountain 2 days but assumed they broke up). Artificial Selection is a fucking masterpiece and Mothership remains one of my favorite albums of all time.
I'm glad people like my dumb theory though. That's actually really cool to me so thanks.

Welcome to Dance Gavin Dance. They are a perfect blend of hardcore yet beautiful craftsmanship, ambience, and creativity. They literally sound different yet great on every album. I like to use the term “soft” hardcore to describe them, because that’s kinda what they are. They’re wonderful.
I’ve always described them as a mix between pop, jazz, and hardcore
After several albums together, this line-up is definitely my favorite. They work so damn well together, definitely tighter than they were before.
