    If I was a Dune fan, I'd like this set. Nice to see something that isn't Star Wars or Harry Potter.

      Yeah it's exciting to get a new movie franchise in LEGO form, even if the set isn't the best.

    Mine is being shipped right now and should be here tomorrow! I also got technic cross bar pins in black to clean up some of those colour issues.

    I really like it, but I swapped the STUUUUUUPID red and yellow parts for black ones, and that improves the overall looks a lot!

    Fair opinion. Not mine, but your arguments are good. Only problem I have with this set is that mosr red, visible, parts that are used also are available in black. Those small red tech pins for instance. They even added black ones for the blades. It would have made it an even better set for the same costs. Maybe I order those parts in black.

      Yeah the different colored technics parts are bad no matter what. Glad you can disagree with my stance but not attack me 😅

    looks like you should be able to cover it up somewhat from the central pylon (with the three technic holes) forward between the front wings at least. Might only be one stud high though using that middle hole, wings might hit anything else (?) when they be a flappin'.

      Yeah you can make mods if you so choose, but I don't take that in account when reviewing a product.

      You can't do a huge amount. It's hard to build there because of how the frame structure is set up. And there is little room that can be filled without restricting the movement of all the moving parts. If you want to keep the wings extended or folded, you can certainly clean it up a bit.

    My pet hate is the needless use of coloured technic pins. I know it makes it harder to assemble but these are display sets and the blue and red just wrecks it for me.

    • @BrickologyProductions
      @BrickologyProductions  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Couldn’t agree more. I understand for LEGO sets for kids that it’s easier when pieces are clearly a different color, but this is an 18+ set. The adults can figure it out…

    I see what you mean, but as a primarily lego technic builder I'm just really not that bothered by the various additional colours brought about by the coloured pieces in the technic mechanism. Also, when the wings are extended, the grey pieces between the wings are more visibly grey because they're not in the shadows as much anymore, which I think greatly improves the overall look a lot as well. Great video though!

    • @BrickologyProductions
      @BrickologyProductions  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t buy that many Technic sets, so maybe I’m not as numb to it. I just think they could easily swap out the colors for grey and black instead of rainbow. Thank you for the compliments though!

  • @CrazyChemistPL
    @CrazyChemistPL 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I love this thing. I don't mind the exposed Technic and the colors poking through are just a byproduct of Technic design language (basic pin black, triple pin blue, pin with stud red, half pin half axle sandy etc.) and in case of such a complex mechanism, these colors actually make it easier to build and not make a mistake along the way. I don't mind exposed studs either, they immediately make it look like Lego and after building so many smoothed Creator Expert/Ideas cars, it made for a very welcome change of pace, also I kind of feel it weirdly matches with the aesthetics of source material.
    If I wanted perfect representation of the ornithopter, there are great scale models available. They can't give me the functionality of this set, though. So for me, the pros vastly outweigh the cons here. Dare to say, this is a contender to being a set of 2024 imo.

    • @BrickologyProductions
      @BrickologyProductions  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for commenting! I disagree with your assessment. The set is 18+, I think adults can figure out where to put pins without them being different colors. Studs are hit or miss, but TOO many looks ugly. I get what you’re saying but don’t agree. Way too early IMO to say it’s set of the year.

  • @CrazyHorse151
    @CrazyHorse151 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I don't know. I think it should be easy to give a fair criticism here. (Not saying the video didn't. Just want to add my 2 cents on the discussion)
    Let's just accept the "brightly colored (technic) pieces we are seeing from Lego since years. They're here to stay. We can still criticize their decision for the obvious disadvantages they bring. But I think we shouldn't spent a lot of energy arguing for or against red axis pieces here. Lego I think is well aware that they look bad, but likely help during building and they can easily be replaced by people. Again, there are clear arguments on both sides. No need to go ballistic.
    Now in regards to the design around the wing roots, clearly they wanted to have the technic-features and clearly a lot of them made it likely impossible to really have a clean design around the wings. You may prefer a nice design, you may prefer the features. (I don't need the flapping but I love how I can unfold 8 wings simultaneously). But the compromise they found here Is quite a feat. The build was insane in times. It's not like they didn't try.
    So, how much you like it depends on what you prefer. But I think we can agree on that they found a nice compromise. I don't think it's fair to criticize it for what it is. You can argue that you would have preferred something with fewer features but a cleaner design.

    • @BrickologyProductions
      @BrickologyProductions  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Fair assessment, but IMO the compromise went too far in one direction that it hurt the display value for me. I display my sets, and I don't think this is the best-looking build out there. I'll also never truly get over the red pins and such. They didn't used to do that. These sets are for adults, we can differentiate technic pins while building. That's my take on that.

    I'm glad you made this review. I'm quite strapped for cash to be throwing at Lego, however, I am a huge fan of Dune. So...I'm in a pickle. Do I hold out for a subjectively "better" Lego experience, or do I throw money at a decent 7.5 build that represents a subject I rather quite enjoy! (Dune) It functions, while very cool, would not be used as it will mostly be a display piece for me, so that's another con. However, I still get to have dune + lego on my shelf. Ahhh, what to do.

    • @BrickologyProductions
      @BrickologyProductions  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s always the dilemma of being a LEGO fan. If Dune REALLY is that important to you, I say go for it. I’m not sure if they’ll ever make another Dune set TBH, and the figures here (minus Paul) and legit 10/10. Additionally, if this set is a smash hit, LEGO might be inclined to make MORE Dune sets, but you gotta speak with your wallet. It’s still not the best build in the world, but your personal preference should take precedent.

  • @ryanhasken8936
    @ryanhasken8936 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    7.5/10 is extremely fair considering more than half the set is dedicated to one function. The function is great, however, the look is not. The figs are fantastic though. Great review !

    The first Dune book is special to me and I really really loved the film. And I like Lego a lot, I would like to buy something new now. But this thing is ugly to me, I also don’t like the Paul minifigure. I would love them to make another version with a focus on visual accuracy. I’ll pass on this one, and this is very unfortunate to me.
    Oh yes, and those colourful pins….. just why? They’re so ugly 🤷‍♂️ And make you focus even more on the not so pretty technics part of the build.
