    Just a bit of advice from my mechanic who has done a few of these. Pull the valve covers and inspect inside, since it only takes a few minutes. When you replace the timing chain, buy a kit and replace the oil pump and cam phasers also, and consider installing cam phaser lockouts, since the phasers start to chatter and can cause major damage. Do not replace the oil pump with stock, Ford offers a high performance one but Meiling has the one the experts use. There's too much work involved to save a few dollars on the stock pump. There's also another youtube video on how to deal with those pesky oil pickup attach bolts. Loosen them and wrap a wire around them before removal, so they don't fall down in the oil pan.

      1997-2003 2v 5.4 or 4.6 like in this video do not have cam phasers. It takes a lot longer to remove those valve covers than a few mins.

    Finally! Someone doing this job without removing valve covers, I was wondering if it could be done! Only thing I would do different is wedge some thing between the valve covers and chains to keep cams from moving when tension is released from chains. THANKS!!

    It is a quick overview from the 30,000 ft level. The biggest question I have is how to align the timing chain because misplacement can mean the difference between starting; and NOT! Well done!

      And the bent valves that happen if timing isn't right or when the cam springs back when chain is released!

    Not to be negative or anything but there are like 700 years worth of F-150s out there. It would be helpful if you were to include the year model F-150s this pertained to in the title. Got a 400,000 miler, pristine, rust free 2002 cherry , reg cab flairside with oil pressure issues. Thumbs up anyway!

Dude you title the video "how to replace f-150 oil pump" then you show NONE of the actual oil pump replacement like how you get the pickup tube & screen off & on again without removing the pan? And the torq values would be very helpful? But thanks for the effort & showing it can be done without a complete tear down... Kinda?

    Never in 55 years had the best lubricant part of an engine go bad. My 92 300 six with over 400,000 only rattle on start. What happened to ford quality. Oil light radical on 2012 even after sender was supposedly replaced? Now scared to drive. Back to my reliable 92 300 six.

    This job looks so intimidating to me, you make it sound so easy. One day my f150 started making noise, hesitating and not wanting to accelerate, oil light and noise came on. A cheap scan tool only shows misfires and camshaft codes. I suspect oil pump though. Thoughts anyone? I can’t afford a mechanic, need to fix it myself or take a huge loss on it.

    It seems like it would be easier just to pull the oil pan, and then undo the two bolts that hold the oil pump. Then you're not messing with any timing.

    • @lloydballard7051
      @lloydballard7051 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I have done it both ways. If you have 4x4 it is a lot of extra work as you have to drop the front axle, detach the sway bar (stays in) and remove the crossmember. Not pulling the pan is easier except for the pickup bolts. Those are stressful, however I installed a piece of wood paint stirrer and a magnet to catch the bolts. in the pan. Good thing as they did fall. Most suggest you use a 8mm flex head ratchet wrench. That would work if you have a high quality one that indexes. Mine just flops so it would not hold position. I got by using a tiny 8mm ignition style wrench bent the closed end and it worked both on and off. I did not use a piece of wire to hold the bolts. Think that is a good idea. Instead I greased the tips of the bolts so when I put them in, they held enough to get the wrench on.

    • @PaulHenreid
      @PaulHenreid หลายเดือนก่อน

      You still have to mess with timing because the crankshaft sprocket must be removed to replace the oil pump. But dropping the oil pan makes it easy to remove the two bolts on the pickup tube.

      Sou is like bearings. Or a pump. You may try running a little heavier oil and see if that makes it stop. But try at your own risk or take it soon for a proper diagnosis.
