My uncle Raza died last Thursday, December 7, 2023. He was just over for Thanksiving and kept asking me to play this song in the car. It was his favorite and will now always remind me of him. Rest in Peace Raz, love you.

Leroi Moore died in August 2008 from an automobile accident. The band replaced him. And boyd the violin player left in 2011.
The band has changed their style a bit with more of a pop rock sound than Folk jazz influenced songs. It’s songs like American baby that will help us remember the golden age of Dave Matthews band

I think big whiskey was a good album. But I didn’t hear the after that. I like big whisky because some of the songs were recorded before Leroi passed away. His soul was in the album. But I agree once leroi passed away. The magic left. And since Boyd left because of accusations. It just doesn’t feel like Dave Matthews band anymore.

I think it is a sad thing that this song is so relevant now. It is a great song but, the fact that we are living in a time when "God's grace is lost and the devil is proud" shows how far this country has deviated from God.

Every time I hear Leroi's sax at the end of this song, It just makes me want to cry. I'm so glad I was lucky enough to see him play a few times.
This sentiment was 13 years too early and now the popular culture's voices fall silent when they need to speak out the most. America has lost itself in the midst of a free fall of identity politics, racial division, economic hardship and world conflict. Those in power seek to line their pockets and hold onto their status as long as possible while forgetting the people and their needs they're supposed to represent and hold dear, all the while condemning America as flawed and unworthy. I'd second the call to 'Stay American baby' but we're well past that now.

Look at all the varied faces from this planet, young, old, black, white, asian etc, so much love. The devil, I held his hand for a time, but I have brought him to his knees. It feels good to watch him grovel and beg after everything he does to us.

Interesting vibe this gives off, watching this in today’s climate with everything that’s going on it makes me kinda depressed. We don’t know how good we had it. The old world seems so close yet so far away.
I saw The Dave Matthews band live back when I was 20 years old. I'm 38 now. I was sad when I heard that one of the band members LeRoi Moore died back in 2008. He was phenomenal on the saxophone. This song brings back great memories.
Saw them in concert when I was 21. Im 41 now. Best show ever. Got to see them when Leroi was still alive and well.

Man, I am not a huge Dave Matthews fan but, I love this song. I especially like how it portrays the melting pot that this country is supposed to be. People from all walks of life being portrayed in this song is incredible.

2018 and this song still holds up. Used to throw this on my playlists during my walk to classes at a downtown community college and no matter how hard the coming day was, this song always put me back into a grove of confidence. The feel alone is so powerful.

My mom is a massive DMB fan and I grew up with them and bands like Rob Zombie, Ozzy Osbourne, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and I always found it funny the Dave Matthews Band will take the one chillband that my mom would play while I was sick. I love this band and I'm glad I grew up when I did. The Nostalgia just listening to this song is on a whole different level.

I'm still saddened by the loss of my late Marine 🇺🇸boyfriend who passed this past 4/29. I always loved this song because yes I am a proud American. My beloved's death just makes this song so much more special because as a Marine he did make sacrifices just so freedom can live on in the US. He would want me to live everyday likes its my last. Not too many people in other countries have the rights and privileges that us Americans do.

my uncle, Mark Roebuck introduced the world to Dave Mathews. true story. they were great friends awhile back and mark and him were producing music together! Mark had dave perform one night at a club and the rest is history ^~^ uncle mark and dave sometimes still hang out together when he is in their town!!
