Thanks my 2014 silverado with lml has a service charging system at idle. When I rev it the warning goes away. Newer batteries, alternator is good. I will check the sensor and fuse. I have read a ton of threads, and none of them had any info on the Chevy sensor and / or fuse issues! Quick and to the point, excellent video!

Did you find the fix ? Mines doing the same once it get to 2.5k to 3k rpm or over it turns off the warning but at idle and at the lights it'll come back on its driving me insanw with the sound BEEP BEEEP BEEPP and cutting off the view of the digital speedo everytime untill I rev it again hahaha

Easy check on alternator: if it is at the 13.5 V to 14.5 V, at idle, turn on headlights and fan (to high). The alternator should be able to maintain a steady voltage with the increased load BUT it will be necessary to slightly rev the engine slightly above idle for the increased electrical load.

Thanks, Great Video. I came looking for diagnosis info and your video may help. Last year I had multiple check charge system, starting issues, other DIC messages. I have a 2018 GMC 1500 with the E-assist. My problems happened when the ambient temperatures climbed over 100 degrees. It's been about 6 months since my last problem. Well low and behold, last night was maybe in the high 70's and coming home, the problem happened. I have read about the Electric Power Management (EPM) system and know temperature plays a part in what it does. I've had the battery and alternator checked and both are good. But the EPM must be shutting down power. All I have to do is let the vehicle rest for a couple of hours and everything is OK. How does a dead battery charge itself? I can get the vehicle home and try to start immediately and all I get is a click, click, click. Yet in the morning it fires right up. I can't get it to the dealer when it happens and don't want to pay to be told they can't find anything wrong. This battery current temperature sensor and/or fuse may be the source of my problem. The good thing is with the e-assist, I just have to scroll through some dash options and the e-assist battery will start the truck. No need for a jump.

This is a great video! Thank you for sharing so your average person with basic knowledge will understand. My question to you is what about models that have the full packages on them i.e. the LTZ models for Chevy Suburban. If a alternator or battery that may be compatible for your vehicle & possibly be a minimum requirement for your vehicle, cause these problems?
For instance if my husband is buying the alternator for his truck thats a minimum amp outage and only running 1 battery. Or if he's buying the minimum his Suburban LTZ requires while having the full package with built in Bose stereo system, tv, navi, power and heat to both front and rear captain seats, front and rear HVAC system, rear view camera, heated mirrors with lane assist, power going out everywhere, etc etc.
Could all theses extras cause the service battery charging system to come on all the time when he keeps saying that "everything is good" according to the Auto Parts store. (Sorry I hope I am explaining it to where you understand since I don't know all the proper lingo) I feel like he buys the basic minimum (usually because it's cheaper and he's a cheapskate) his Suburban requires and maybe its just not enough since he has a spot for a second battery and with all the bells and whistles so to say it needs more than its output and therefore it drains the hell out of the system! (Excuse my language)
Maybe my thoughts process about it or me telling him he needs "the bigger & better parts" is all for nothing and I am wrong.. either way I am a nerd for knowledge and I look forward to learning if I'm write or wrong so if I'm wrong I can apologize and keep my 2 cents to myself.

@hvacmechanic do you happen to know anything about 2013 gmc sierra denali 2500hd 6.6l v8 duramax diesel?..my fancy negative cable on driver side was cracked which got replaced today...batteries currently charging because dealership tried to sell me 2 batteries without even making sure my 1 year old batteries were bad...they claimed the batteries were "shitty" and likely the cause of my issue because they are not $300 GM batteries and that charging them was a waste of time...when I pulled both batteries to take them home to charge I noticed that passenger side battery with the fuses on top had a wire completely broken off...dealer did not notice this but said they were mainly focused on other side...not sure if I may have accidentally done this or if it has been like this...could this specific wire be causing my service battery charging system light to come on, voltage issues, and the truck not being able to stay running longer than 5 minutes after being jumped?..dealer already has me in the hole for $300 and tried to put me in the hole an additional $600 on batteries so my trust with them is next to none...hoping that maybe I can somehow figure this out myself like other things I have worked on...just don't know what that specific wire powers and there is no diagrams that I can find...all help and advice would be greatly appreciated...

Yo man love the video very professional and just a quick question? I have that problem bran new battery putting a new amp fuse box on top of the battery and replace the fuses in the actual fuse box gonna replace the battery current sensor! But alternator is good, grounds are all good, wiring good, Can that sensor or the top Hookup amp box cause the knock sensor to trigger a check engine light for low voltage to the knock sensor because I have replaced this knock sensor torque it to specs many times so pretty positive the knock sensor isn't bad and the engine has no noise that could trigger it.. it's a 2015 chevy cruze 1.4l!

One mkre thing when testing the battery: I had an enclave and the voltage read fine when the battery was sitting there. It wasn't providing enough amps when cranking, and that's what the problem was. I had to hold the tester on the battery while I had someone crank the engine to see the voltage drop to 8-9.

Great video. I have a 2011 Tahoe hybrid. Very interesting issue. I took to he shop the guy said there’s so many codes but can’t figure out exactly what hats causing the problem. Dashboard message is saying service hybrid system. Next thing I know when i start up the engine my battery light stays on. Truck is drivable but the steering wheel is stiff. I unhook the connectors on the battery then connected back on. Now here’s the weird part, sometimes the battery light goes right off and it’s back to normal and I can drive without any problems. Now sometimes, I have to drive it a couple of feet or reverse it and then the battery light will go off and the steering is back to normal not being stiff. So as of right now, that’s what I’m working with. If you have any knowledge with hybrid please help me out. Thank you in advance.

Hi , I was driving a 2012 model of GMC and suddenly noticed a hard steering then a light popped up that passenger door is open, then now another light said power lift gate open and the it said service battery charging system. So I immediately stopped and didn’t move again but after calling for help, we noticed the fan belt is completely torn. What could have been the problem and will replacing the fan belt solve the problem? Are there possible likely things to also check on and replace?

    • @HVAC_Mechanic
      @HVAC_Mechanic  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

The belt may have just broken and need to be replaced, but the alternator should be tested, and check the water pump for any water dripping out. Once the belt is replaced, It is quick and easy to check the alternator with a meter. Basically, verify the voltage at the battery with the engine running is between 13.5 and 14 volts. If the water pump is damaged, they usually drip water out a seep hole at the bottom.

I would say yes if the alternator isn't working, there may not be enough juice to get the cooling fans running. So your car gets hot... Maybe. Just a thought.. my 2012 Chevy traverse is doing this thing where the service battery charging system comes on and off while in idle or in traffic or in the drive through.. the temp went past the normal 210 mark, then when I hit the gas the battery gauge goes back up past the 14v and the temp goes back down to the 210 mark.... I'm thinking alternator is bad,...

@makeup_onme7677 o thought I had it. But the other day the alternator stopped charging again. I didn't do a factory reset the time. I just disconnected the battery for about 20 seconds and it started working fine. It only does it if it's been sitting for longer than 12 hours, and always want to be somewhere on time lol. The Escalade isn't my daily. I made my own battery terminal for the negative, I need to figure something out for the positive side cause it has that maga fuse attached to the terminal. It's one those batteries that the terminals sink about inch into and the battery installs backwards. Crappy GM design. If it's not the positive I'm going to start looking at the PCM grounds.

I’ve checked the alternator and the battery was replaced because it was bad. After that the battery charging system light came on and would come on periodically. I ordered a battery temp sensor for the 2016 Chevy Malibu but when going to hook it back up I got a pretty strong spark.
I looked and made sure nothing was grounded. My question is; do you think something is left on in the car or a hot to ground and should I hook up the battery and look to see if something is left on in the car or?
I’m baffled because changing out the battery temp sensor seems pretty straight forward
    I’m lost at this point

There may be a slight power draw from the computer, but it shouldn't be much. If nothing is on, there may be a drain on the battery. A common method to find what is draining the battery is to pull fuses until it is found, along with a test light. Here is a video. th-cam.com/video/-xSMrErME5M/w-d-xo.htmlsi=L25swMbde3L4sJHa

My car had a slow crank one day that lead to multiple days but with no battery light on…:took it to auto zone and battery, alt and starter good. The other day I was waiting for wife to come out of the store and left the radio on then started and seen service charging system. Could that be corrosion? I had a mechanic that cleaned only one terminal before but didn’t take the other terminal off since there was no visible corrosion

Usually, a charging issue that is periodic is a wiring issue, such as a bad connection, but it could be the alternator or battery is starting to fail.

@@HVAC_Mechanic I’ve had my car for 3/4 years and always had my battery around 14.5. The other day I turned it on to go to work and it was at 11.8 and the warning came on. But as soon as I drove my volts went up and the light went out and message went away. Took it to the shop and they said there was corrosion on the battery positive cable to the alternator. And that it would cost me 800-900$ to replace the cable. But no matter what I google I only see cables for under 100$ 🤣

My 2020 malibu randomly keeps getting the service charging system warning. Battery checks good and alternator checks good. First they found that the positive wire wasn't properly connected, so they're connected it, it's been great since until they reset the oil change code. 2 days later the service charging system is back on with the traction control light as well and the battery is over charging. Last time the battery started out over charging then it stopped charging all together. So I guess it's starting to do the same crap again. What is causing this?

Not with todays "smart charging systems" where they dont charge allways this is for fuel milage not having to run that loaded alternator all the time and lengththens battery life by not charging constantly it usually only charges to 80%and considers that fully charged. This is PCM controlled

This is happening to my 17 Chevy Cruze. I put in a new alternator and a new battery and a new starter, everything was fine until I got the charging system warning. The battery is in the trunk so no corrosion from being wet, connections are strong and I'm not mechanically smart enough about the belt and fuses, could it be one of those?

    • @HVAC_Mechanic

Yes, a blown fuse can cause issues. A bad belt will usually be loose or gone. I would test the alternator output with a multi meter and see if it is working.
