I was unable to sleep last night here in Australia, so I got out of bed, turned on the TV, and looked up youtube. The the very first item to appear was your excellent video on Bamburgh castle. What a magnificent castle, and such amazing ancient history involved with this wonderful castle. Always looking forward to your latest blogs.
@@MemorySeekersI've lived 4 years in beautiful Georgia. In Georgia, there's a castle ruin on every second hilltop. Well.. Almost 😁 A land with history, believe me. I've never thought i would see so many castle ruins in my life. But when i came back home from a visit, history of the place and time began to cross my mind. How was life back then? Food, family life ect. It was tough times to be born in, if you weren't royal. As a lifelong sailor, ive been to many poor places and i often been standing on bridge, looking inwards land and thought: to be born in Denmark, in my time, is a gift to put it very mildly. Yemen and Djibouti is 2 of the places, i remember, where it came to my mind. Thanks for uploading 👌👍 Btw.. What do you mean by viking' raids' ?? It was business travels, nothing else... 😁
Bamburgh Castle is perhaps the best-looking castle I've seen. Thank you so much for the wonderful images of the castle and a well-told history. I look forward to more videos of this interesting area.
Wonderful! Bamburgh Castle is magnificent! It also looks truly majestic perched on top of the Hill like that above the quaint wee Village. The Castle also has such a beautiful view out to Sea as well. This certainly would have been a perfect location for defense as well! Indeed! The wee Village of Bamburgh is also very charming! The quaint wee Homes, Shops & Buildings there are delightful! As well as, the Village having very interesting Stories to tell to go along with it's charm. Thank you for sharing another delightful experience in this beautiful place! Blessings to you both!
Thank you so much for this series. This is a fantastic video. I’m an American from Texas and I really appreciate everything you post. The sights and the history that you pass onto us is amazing. Thanks so much!
Excellent video. We are fans of The Last Kingdom, and it was fun to see some displays with items from the show. I could imagine the ships of the Danes, sailing through the waves. I was also pleased to learn about the Doctor, and Lord Armstrong, who seems to have been a brilliant man. While it's a 19th Century addition, the carved wood ceiling is magnificent! And nice to see that the brave Grace received credit for her bravery.
Great video! I love the amount of details you include - not too much to be boring but enough to not be too superficial (like a lot of travel shows) thanks!
Thank you so much for the history lesson and tour around Bamburgh. It has changed so much over the past five decades with it seems more tourists than ever. It has always been a popular village over the years but the biggest change is expensive real estate which is out of the average person’s earnings. We always stayed in Seahouses a few miles away but would visit Bamburgh a couple of times during our stay. Looking forward to Warkworth another favorite of mine. Cheers
What a satisfying tour! Thank you for the attention to detail. I feel like I visited the site myself. I am a new subscriber and look forward to watching many more of your videos.
Ah Simon you keep astounding me with the quality of your videos. I would definitely visit Bamburgh if I lived over your way. I hope that the family can keep it open to the public as it must be a huge cost to run the place. Again your history commentary is fantastic. Another episode that I will watch more than once. Thank you and take care =-)
So glad you enjoyed it so much. Yes it must cost a fortune to run, but then it is £20 to get in so with lots of visitors I am guessing they can keep it going! 😊
To say this castle is impressive is an understatement to say the least. After reading about it over the years, your video tour was an absolute eye opener. Thanks so much guys.
Thanks Linda, certainly one of the top Castles in the North of the country! The setting is amazing and exactly how I imagine a medieval castle to be perched by the sea on an outcrop!
Another Outstanding video with mesmerizing beauty 😍 castle, narration and editing is perfect like a BBC documentary 👍👌I can't thank u enough for so many wonderful videos & I wish you both for many more😊
Thank you for another beautiful and informative visit to one of the UK's most stunning destinations! I always appreciate all the care and attention you put into sharing the details and history of what we are being shown. So many other travel channels neglect this vital aspect. Looking forward to the next one!
Such a wonderful place!! Thank you for sharing. I can’t do much for you two but I do take the time to watch the commercials. Hope that helps. Hugs and blessings ❤.
Awesome video! On my next trip to the UK I want to go castle hopping. That is one of my favorite things to visit over there. Thank you so much for what you do!🙂
I like the homey interior of this castle much better than that of Chillingham, which is too cluttered and weird. The village was nice, too. Thanks for another fascinating tour!
I just got done watching the Last Kingdom series, and movie, they called it Bebbenburgh in the show...I didn't that know that name was based on fact! I thought it was just for the show. Fascinating to see the modern day castle it's become, i think Utrid would be very pleased 😄 once again, Thank You SO very much for this video and all the work you did to bring it to us ❤
Nice town and castle. If you haven't got a car, get a bus from either Berwick or Newcastle (no nearby trains). Two nice campsites that have places for tents. If you're a native English speaker, you'll love the Northumberland accent-like a cross between Geordie and Scottish😊
I would love to walk on the grounds where my ancestor, Waltheof of Bamburgh (960-1006) lived! Alas, I would not enjoy the hordes of gawkers. Sigh. Thank you for providing a quieter alternative trip.
We very nearly booked a trip earlier this year to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, in fact it would have been instead of Northumberland. We had to stay in England as my mother was ill. But we have plans to visit in the next year or two.
Sir John Forster is my ancestor. Apparently he was gifted the castle for saving King Richard at the battle of Acre (that's the story I've found during my genealogy research). One day I'll leave the shores of Australia to see it

I am very pleased we popped up and were able to entertain you. Better than just lying in bed hoping to fall back to sleep which rarely happens for me!
The most impressive English castle I have ever seen .
I appreciate that so much is available to the public. History is valuable on so many levels. You are great at chosing locations and narrating.
Thank you so kind.
Have to admit: a huge construction made without machines. Amazing!
Incredible isn’t it. No way it could be done like that now.

I agree it is an attractive castle, I guess the setting helps a lot. The coastline around that area is just stunning.

The last kingdom is not one I’ve seen but the costumes looked very real. It was a wonderful tour inside and agree the teak ceiling is quite something!

I love Bamburgh - myself and my friends had a blast kitebuggying on the beach some 20 years ago.
Wish we had allowed more time so we could have gone down into the beach it looked gorgeous. Next time!

Bamburgh is a wonderful castle. We visited it last year and had a walk along the beach, too. Enjoyed your video as always.
I wish we had managed to make it to the beach, just ran out of time and the weather wasn’t the best.

Bamburgh Castle and village are always manic whenever we go, seems no matter the time of year.
A very popular and important castle and area, and they do it well so I can see why its always busy.
