    I've always been surprised that HUD colours weren't an ARX purchasable cosmetic in the first place. Many people would happily pay ARX to avoid the hassle of having to mess around with mods to do the same thing.

    • @LiveseyMD
      @LiveseyMD 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Absolutely not ARX.
      You're essentially saying that the configuration option (or even accessibility option) should be paid.
      Consider color blind people for this case.
      It will create a really stupid case, that could make the next game pay for resolution change: you want to play 4k - add another $10 (this is too hyperbolic, but you know these corporate policies).

    • @markbooth3066
      @markbooth3066 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm impressed by you combination straw man, slippery slope and false analogy fallacies here.
      There definitely should be accessibility options in the game, and the fact that there isn't is an undeniable shame on Frontier Developments, but that is an entirely separate issue to what we are talking about here. Here we are talking about cosmetics.
      Since ARX are earned simply by playing the game, how onerous HUD colour changes are depends on how much are charged for them. If HUD colours were priced in the thousands of ARX, I'd object. If they were priced in the hundreds, such that you could earn enough ARX in game in a week or two, it would be *way* less grind than any other aspect of an otherwise very grindy game. I've never paid real money for ARX, and probably never will, and yet I have plenty of cosmetics. I'm currently saving up for a Leo COVAS, and hopefully it won't take me more than a couple of weeks more to be able to afford it.
      In addition, I thought I was pretty clear that I wasn't suggesting that FDev prevent people from using the existing tools to change their HUD colours manually, just give people the option to spend some of their hard earned ARX to do it more easily.

    • @LiveseyMD
      @LiveseyMD 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@markbooth3066 Probably, I should spend less time in Twitter then, so thanks for pointing it)
      But still I can't see color settings as cosmetics.
      Cockpit layouts, custom icons and other stuff that is already in game - definitely can be sold for ARX, but not color settings, that I personally see as essential stuff.
      As for 4k for $10, we have something close to it on Netflix where the resolution is coupled to the number of screens.

    • @markbooth3066
      @markbooth3066 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Freeform colour changing would be better, but I'd rather have easy access via ARX than not at all.
      On Netflix, I can agree with you though @@LiveseyMD, we were one of their earliest supporters, and were with them for years. We loved how they would take risks on content no-one else would touch, to bring us some great sci-fi, fantasy, drama and comedy. Last month we gave up our cheap legacy tariff because they so rarely have any of that stuff any more, it's all cheap as chips reality TV or punch down comedy, now they are the establishment rather than the plucky upstart. It's all so very sad.

    • @marsMayflower
      @marsMayflower 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      definitely shouldn't be paying for something like a simple configuration change. not sure why they just haven't added it. i will say after trying different colors, i tend to go back to default because it is the easiest to read and has a good contrast ratio against a dark background.

    One thing that I would like to see is the ability to scrap an engineered module and recover mats and data from it. This would help encourage diversity and experimentation when engineering your modules and reduce the grind. One thing that is really needed to reduce the grind is to lower the requirements for data. This is really difficult to get while playing unless you menu log and that can be tedious as well.

    11. enable the *already existing* VR on foot for Odyssey! FDev could capitalize on the fact that they have the only complex space sim with official VR support.

    • @HoxxVFR
      @HoxxVFR 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd love to see everything on foot in VR as well! But it might be much more complex to implement, than just repositioning the camera. So my suggestion didn't make it in the top 10 cheap-quick-and-easy-list unfortunately.

    • @user-dq2hw7jf6y
      @user-dq2hw7jf6y 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@HoxxVFR Actually, it is not. If you jump on the bridge of a fleet carrier, you can actually witness that fact. It switches to full 3D for the jump sequence. All that is missing is a HUD.

    Cockpit lighting control. I'd love to be able to turn off, or better yet, dim the lights in the cockpit. Ideally this would be separate controls for HUD (Which we already have) and cabin lighting, which is sometimes too bright.

    That all the voice logs and mission trails and interesting old locations are still so hidden away does feel like a really weird choice. I've long thought a simple mission chain for some of them would be welcome.
    Strongly in agreement with wanting to see more random unusual encounters in deep space, even if the things themselves are not sophisticated or complex. Some region specific flavours would be nice, to give people something to go looking for.

    My suggestion: when you have notoriety from Ganking, you cannot play Solo sessions until your notoriety returns to zero. And stations give very high paying missions to hunt YOU down, with information on your position. At the same time pirate factions can give you unique modules after you complete missions that involve killing other players. This is player interaction and sense of DANGER! This is FUN!!!!

  • @davidchandler5432
    @davidchandler5432 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Nice list Drew!
    I used to request this on the Frontier forums about once a year, but I really wish they'd bring back both long range smuggling AND those Thargoid smuggling missions they had for only a little bit (I forget what we were smuggling since it was so long ago now, but it'd destroy your ship as you flew so ya had to work fast). When they nerfed smuggling back in 2016 or 2017 they also removed long range smuggling mission entirely, and for whatever reason they removed the (very fun) Thargoid smuggling missions quite soon after introducing them. I've not played for a bit due to Odyssey, but last I saw the smuggling missions still in the game were badly paying short range missions and since Anarchy factions usually got screwed in the game's simulation it meant it was hard to find smuggling missions at all.
    My memories of tense long range smuggling back in 2015 are some of my favorite memories in all of gaming, I loved doing them so much, and the game has all of the smuggling mechanics already programmed and instituted in-game to utilize smuggling, and it's just not been used for years and years now. I would gladly settle for simply having the missions they already previously had in the game (they went through the trouble of already creating this gameplay, it's a waste that they don't use it anymore), but of course I'd love a deeper overhaul of smuggling like the mining mechanics got years ago.
    Smuggling fits the game world perfectly, the mechanics for heat signatures and sensors and line of sight and etc is already in the game, it just needs to be put to use!

    Point 7 is very dangerous in context of FDev. :) We fought TWO years for FDev fixing the issue of (human related) Points of Interest (like crashed ships, smuggler stashes etc.) showing up all over the galaxy (like EVERYWHERE, even on the other side of the galaxy), even on planets discovered by you, where you had your first footfall in systems scanned by you for the first time. :) I bet we'd end up in the same place. So - be careful what you wish for, Drew. ;)

    As far as more fleet carrier interiors, there are 5 station interior types: normal, extraction/refinery, wealthy, High Tech, & Tourism - we have interior for the first three, but not the other two. They could als add a Core Dynamics/Federation theme and a Gutamaya/Imperial theme.
    I would also add in IMperial and Federation uniforms

    7. Random encounters can also be educational in nature. Make a point of releasing DLC that include the most recent galactic discoveries in modern astrophysics.
    -A months long grand tour of the Galaxy would also be enhancing. Narrated be NDT.
    -A real time hunt for planet nine using the most up to date data.
    -An expedition to Beetlejuice to investigate the recent dimming.
    -A real time study of earth's past. (If we are traveling faster than light, then we are able to observe the past as its light/signal reaches our location.) Should make for some entertaining route planning as we try to intercept specific events that were broadcast in our past.

    The legacy biology and Odyssey biology need to be consolidated. Vista Genomics should be interested in LaGrange cloud lifeforms too. What are the anomalies? They were added and then... nothing.
    It's time to consider opening a permit locked sector or two... it's been a decade. What's in there?
    Let us sell engineered ships and modules at our carriers. At least then you can grind out some stuff and then make money from it and it would give players a way to buy around the grind. The grind would still be there but at least the player doing it could make a profit doing it.

I'd add one "decorative" element : The ability to buy a label to have your ship be ancient, such as a Whatt and Prittney made Python, or a Cowell and McGrath Cobra 3. I agree that Tianve surface port's eponym ;-) could easily "make the tank full" for point 5, but there are also others, who already contribute. There's a very good french site, which made me really wonder, why these "low hanging fruits" have never been taken by Frontier, The very first adventure of that site takes you to an in-game place which is just as special as e.g. Mitterand Hollow, which otherwise is just rotting unused in space and would have been forgotten. I am playing ED for more than 3 years now and have never heard of that station before. Was that place really just created for a one-time story by Frontier? What a waste of effort! The very least would have been to preserve that story somewhere easy to access for every player. And maybe that's point 11: Preserve the history of Elite (Dangerous) and keep key-elements replayable.
    Regarding that station mentioned above, everything is still playable, but there is no hint how to replay other than that french communities' efforts.
    The live-events organized by players and youtubers like Drew, The Buur, Sciencekeeper, ... are not only an adventure while they last. I've rewatched Drew's Farewell Tour many times, just because I was there, too (still sad he left though *giggle*). And of course, I would replay other in-game history just as well.

    One thing I would like to see is a subscription model. Honestly - hear me out with this one. People who are _still_ playing ED are here for the long-haul. It is *really* hard to motivate an existing player who loves the game to carry on when there is a risk that the game will die off through shareholder supremacy, prioritising new IP in other games that will make them a quick buck. Long-term ED players will be willing to pay to have their time investment justified. The subscription model will be cheap for them and at least cover the ongoing server costs and any bug fixes to maintain the game in its current state. Cosmetics and major game improvements can still be paid extras and justify dev costs to bring in new players.

    The main issue with ED is all the various aspect's envolved in upgrading various modual's using the dam engineer's. Tis ironic how they are so smart, so intelligent to do to mod's what they can do. But can't differenciate between those mat's you bring vs those you have, unlike the less smart, less intelligent mat trader's can do. If engineer's were to have mat trader's or be able to do it them selves. It would save a significant amout of time, effort mandated by going to the dam mat trader's. OR as we can when selling ship's, strip engineered mod and put in storage. When selling modual's, allow us to a various degree or percentage, strip if taking the time as it is when selling a ship vs not. Get some of the various material's back. Then there's the issue of obtaining the various rank's. which with the one exception of obtaining one or more particular ship's, has absolutly zero bennifit's.
    I'll bet that the new Python MkII will be locked behind a ranking. But only and I can't fathom how it would be better than the present; Is actually better than the present. Yes, the new one outside look's great. But it's the inside that matter's. Thus the new one will have to have and or be a mandate to have more and or larger slot's. Which will make it considerably heavyier than it already is, effecting jump range dramatically. Thus causeing perhap's the utilization of different mods to engineer. Which then bring's us back to the dam ever constant going to the dam trader again and again and a ...

    The engineering grind is absurd. I did it twice. Once, on Xbox and PC. You may have managed to build up a 200T+ hauler and yet you have to deliver 25T worth of Kongan Ales to Lori Jameson, but the allocations able to be picked up at a time are smartly thought out, so that you have to do 3 trips, with no more than 11T at a time being able to be picked up. Which means you're going back for three more lol. I mean, this was years ago but I'd wager it's the same. Its needless senseless grinding. Then there are the cigars, Soontill relics...it's all this way. That's why I rebelled against engineering, until around 2019. I did a couple then got fed up because they pretend you can play the game any way you wish...until you can't. So if all you care about is combat, there is no combat means if unlocking engineers. No, instead you have to do 10,000LY worth of exploring, or build a mining Python (Mython) and mine 500T of ore, for Selene, and cargo haul to unlock others. There's maybe only two engineers that you hand in combat vouchers for. It's ridiculous. The engineering grind was not fleshed out in a way that fits with the game's own "play your way" philosophy. I think I ended up figuring that the engineer unlock grinds were about 200 hours of "not playing your way." Longer, if you factor in the engineer in Shinrarta (Lori? Liz? (one of the two famous last names)).
    Then you have people, like my buddy, that regard the carrier as being the endgame and playing a solid 3 weeks of Elite Dangerous, purely grinding for a carrier and burning themselves out after less than a month of late night grinding, all because carriers aren't locked behind and Elite status, or any amount of reputation for that matter. So, people just jump in, follow some guide to make billions in a couple of weeks (or less) and then they achieved the end game vehicle and have no need to move on to other things. I even tried to get him into Thargoid combat and said, "dude! Just follow me around in an AX conflict zone, using your fastest vehicle and at least watch what it's like for wings to take these interceptors. I can teach you some evasive maneuvers, just load up on a bunch of heat sinks." Wasn't happening. Burned out. By then his opinions of Elite were low, and since i had also been playing SC, he got curious about that and that's where he's remained since. I got him into that at a really good time, as that is when the whole new server meshing thing was happening, as well as the whole Jump Town deal. Now he knows more about that game than I do and I had been playing it off/ on since 2016.
    Then you have this whole new grind, where instead of just engineering the Thargoid weaponry that you have, they just add new modified modules to the list that you have to grind for. As well as things like pre-engineered drives. Why not just be able to engineer the ones that we have in order to achieve the same desired effect? You're just pointlessly adding separate assets to the game. We should just be able to modify the stats of existing modules to have the same effects. Like the Advanced Xeno Scanner. Why did we need a second one? Why can't the gauss just be engineered to be the "Modified Gauss.?"

    We get a glimpse of a new ship that is scant of detail, so the cynic in me says "what will fdev give for the new python and what will they take away"?
    I am more of a mind to claim that if fdev have no long term view of Elites future then let the mods at it.
    There is money to be made from the game - I'm not convinced fdev will seize that day.

    I have no idea why you'd need multiple profiles to engage with different gameplay systems (explo, combat etc.) Access to these is tight to a specifically outfitted ship and you can have many on the same profile.

      Because it's not possible to pursue deep space exploration at the same time as bubble activity on the same profile.

    Hot tip. Grinding is not necessary to access any content. Nothing is gated behind grinding (apart from PvP).

      It could possibly be considered grinding when you have to spend 10 hours to get all the stuff you need to unlock all the modules needed to get to the titan. Maybe there are faster ways to do it, but I guess I need to get gud.

    • @happymoonmonkey
      @happymoonmonkey 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@marsMayflower which bit found you mindlessly repeating the same task over and over though? The journey to acquire all the equipment to get to the maelstrom is longer than some but it doesn't really repeat itself save for gathering a few materials for the caustic sink launcher. The pulse neutraliser requires a grelic and that's another fascinating journey to make but can't be described as a grind. Ship-wise engineering makes it easier to get inside but isn't a necessity.

    My personal oppinion is that the devs need to STOP listening to the community. Its been over half a decade, elite is still garbage, can we please finally get some sandbox pvp stuff in elite? There are so many players who would come over to this game from others in a heartbeat. Im not saying it needs to be everywhere, I mean its an entire milky freaking way galaxy surely a slice of it could be cut off for people who want to play the sandbox pvp game?
    Honestly thin skinned pve players have ruined this game.

    Number 7 is a must. I've travelled far and wide in Elite and rarely discover anything interesting. Random encounters, archeology sites, wrecks and valuable discoveries out in the black would be fantastic. Cadman100 (Taffy Coops) x
