Thanks so much for these vids. I did this repair myself, it was pretty ugly. Laying on the floor no less. Couldn’t have done it without your vid. Thank you sir.
Did you have to relearn sensor before starting , I replaced tone wheel and sensor and got a no start , unplugged sensor and it went back to a long crank start ,
A little reading would have revealed that it is never ever a bearing problem! It is the Material Chrysler used on the back of an engine where all the heat is. Never had a failed sensor but in light of how much time it takes to change one and considering they are relatively inexpensive I always stick a new one in there.
I have this same issue 2016 chevy colorado 2.8 diesel and replaced the tone wheel and crankshaft position sensor but my truck still doesnt turn on just cranks and craanks. What should i do? Do i need to take to a dealership?
Great video. Is this repair fixed under warranty, even after the factory warranty is expired? Currently, they offer pnly one fix: a flash of the software. How often have you seen this happen? What percentage of Ecodiesels will this happen to? I have a 2016 Ram Ecodiesel. thx
I’ve seen that the Crankshaft TDC is the most searched on Prodemand, so I’m under the assumption that it’s really common. Look how many views this video has, sheesh. And my local Dodge dealer told me nothing covered and I had to pay thousands to replace the ring. And it is the ring, scoped it through the starter hole. Doing it my self I guess. I’ve always been a Dodge guy. I hate Chrysler now. And Mercedes that designed these. Brutally designed. The reason this is common is because they wanted to cut a bit of manufacturing costs. Toyota and Hondas way to go. Life will be easier not next to now maintenance.
@RyDawg1904 there is an extended warranty specifically for the tone wheel. 8 years, unlimited miles. Mopar 14-007-21 I missed getting it by three months. 😢
"Chrysler products aint worth a darn..." You said it, brother! My ecodiesel has been nothing but trouble. Going to attempt this on a buddy's lift then trade it in as fast as I can. FCA, right next to VW for contempt of customer and "What can we get away with" behavior.
Don't agree with the comment on the Valvoline Max life tranny oil, got it in my Ecodiesel and no problems after changing the filter and fluid, going on 2 years thousands of miles, zero problems so far.
Who ever design it to be on the back behind the transmission instead on front needs slapped. Just like the turbo being on the back of the motor to need slap more lol
Check with your local Dealer there is a new Campaign to fix these or get reimbursed for work done.

You are the one of de kind great mechanic you should be a mechanic trainer… God bless you!
My truck jerked and stalled on the highway, wonder if this is the reason

I bought the parts just in case. Never know today with poor parts availability. 160,000
+ miles on my Ecodiesel, no problems yet...
What part number was it ?
Why did you not check for play in the bearings. It would be a concern to me on how the sensor and ring were worn.
But some great input on this.
Thanks

Thanks for the Video! Question - did you have to replace all of the transmission fluid?
No I added roughly a quart

Take it to a shop have them reset the system and or check to see if all inputs are reaching the ECU
I did the same thing as you, I changed the wheel and now it doesn't turn on anymore, did you use a scanner to program the ckp?
I updated the Calibration no more. You must have done something wrong or the unit is bad out the box. Use only OE Equipment
What was the code? Having this issue on chevy equinox 2021. Sensor replaced, continuity checked.
2 totally different animals. you need a scope not check for continuity.
I don't remember but some sensors may have to be shimmed.

I have seen 2 but as I said it is covered under warranty
The scanner you have is Autel, what series of scanners?

Our 2017 is out of warranty with only 80k miles and they will not replace the the tone wheel and sensor unless we pay!!

There is a campaign now to get it fixed. I would check on that!!
What is that magnet called you had to replace?
That was part of the tone ring. It is magnetic.
How many hours does the repair take
Depends 7-8

why is it you have to drain the coolant
I removed the cooler on the side. I did not drain the coolant. I replaced the seal.
What’s a job like that cost?
This cannot be answered every shop has a different rate I quoted 6.5 hrs to do the job.
