  • 👉 Learn how to find the vertical/horizontal asymptotes of a function. An asymptote is a line that the graph of a function approaches but never touches. The vertical asymptote is a vertical line that the graph of a function approaches but never touches. To find the vertical asymptote(s) of a rational function, we set the denominator equal to 0 and solve for x.
    The horizontal asymptote is a horizontal line which the graph of the function approaches but never crosses (though they sometimes cross them). A rational function has a horizontal asymptote of y = 0 when the degree of the numerator is less than the degree of the denominator. A rational function has a horizontal asymptote of y = c, (where c is the quotient of the leading coefficient of the numerator and that of the denominator) when the degree of the numerator is equal to the degree of the denominator. A rational function has no horizontal asymptote if the degree of the numerator is greater than the degree of the denominator.

    There's actually a hole at X=1 because you have an X-1 term in the numerator and in the denominator. X=2 and X=-1 are your only vertical asymptotes

      Great catch! I should have factored both the top and bottom to look any holes. I will pin your comment so other viewers are aware.

      Yeah (2x-3/(x-2)(X+1)) is the fully simpldyed expression, with V.As being X=2,-1, no slant, and H.A being Y=0, with an x-int of ((3/2,)0), a y-int of (0,(3/2)), and a hole coordinate of (1,(1/2))

    You do the public a great service with your videos. I've watched many. They're even on Amazon Prime! My only frustration is how FAST you go. I hit pause and back up a lot. I wonder if you teach AP kids. I really wish you'd slow down just a little... You're a very good teacher!

    Yes,the first thing we got to do is to check if there are break points,or say to check if there are common factors of the numerator and the denominator

    Brian at 6:22 could you have done the a times c method? Or cannot you not or shouldn't do it when doing equation is equal to 0?

    Sir What will I do if the denominator is not factorable?

  • @bhagyashreeurao7931
    @bhagyashreeurao7931 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What is done at 3:59 is absolutely wrong. You cannot multiply and cancel the denominator function since the denominator function can take the value 0 (for x=2 or 1 or -1).

    aren't the vertical asymptotes just x=2 and x=-1 because when you factor the top you can cancel a x-1 in the numerator and denominator.

    Impossible to tolerate because of the pronunciation of “asymptote”.
    swapping the “p” with the final “t” destroys the content.
