The narrator is either embellishing these encounters for the sake of views, or is abysmally ignorant of the behavior of mountain lions. Since the narrative is so exaggerated, I'll go with the former.
Best thing to do is show no fear and actually become the aggressor first and look angry while charging towards the beast, this confuses the lion and instinctively will retreat while still not knowing for sure if you're prey or predator.
@@luke9072 If it had babies near by that would be a disastrous move, or if it was protecting a kill near by, if it was just protective of its territory, no the advice is to slowly retreat still facing the cat, with no direct eye contact, remember humans really are not on its menu, but the above have led to rare attacks.
I find it hard to believe a mountain lion is a threat to a reasonable sized person who stands their ground. Rule 101 is never be unarmed in the forest and rule 102 is never run from a cougar. A staff is great for a hiking aid and self defence 👍🏻
I agree. You can easily tell that Lion wanted no trouble. He was just warning that idiot to leave him alone. He wasn't in predator mode. A quick an easy tranquilizer dart is what he should have used. Then he could have easily transported him out of harms way. I would have fired the idiot moron with the predator stick. Moron.
There's a few of them around merkle county and Abilene, and one night my mom was driving home from novis TX when one went across the road from a rock like surface.
I once thought a cougar came out of some bushes and came to attack me but it turned out it was a dog. I only didn’t identify it when I first saw it cause the face was covered by a big leaf from a tree
The person recording his two dogs needs to never have animals or kids! Just sits in his house and records it like wtf at least scream or do something if you don’t have a gun….
Trevor had a couple of things going for him. One, he yelled very aggressively, and two, he had a walking stick he used to strike his surroundings aggressively. Probably the best reason to carry one!
Poor dogs, that home owner should have been out there with a shotgun instead of sacrificing their dogs like a coward. I’d rather someone like that be attacked than some innocent dogs
Just roaring and throwing stuff scares these cats-they’re very nosy but also very timid when they know you see them. Ambush predators don’t want to be seen
Yeah every American gets a government sponsored shotgun when we graduate high school, why didn't that guy just pull out his shotgun that everyone has? Since he didn't pull out his shotgun he deserves to be attacked, not the dogs that are naturally being defensive by antagonizing a predator. Barking dogs lives are worth far more than a scared human...wtf is wrong with you.
LOL I night hike in Brazil every weekend and there are Jaguars too. They are just big cats, not big deal like that because they are easy to scare... Bears though are a different story and we ain't got them here
Sorry but the only way I'd even consider rescuing a mountain lion or any other wild animal is to tranquilize it first. They don't understand that you're trying to rescue them, they just act out of instinctive fear and if trapped, attack anything or anyone that gets too close. I'm thankful for the brave people who rescue them as part of their job. I would be too terrified to do the job myself.
It can be difficult to get the right dose for an animal. Having too high of a dose may kill them, too small and they could have no effect at all. This is to say you have access to tranquilizers in the first place. Regardless, I agree. These men put the life of the animal before their own safety. Heros.
@@shirleyszeliga914 actually this is a good thing to do putting a healthy fear of humans in the lion will keep it away from people, less likely it will attack someone or come into contact with the guy that just shoots first.

@20:25 [#11 "Hey Cat!" 👋 ] You know how incredibly good you have to be to sneak up on a wild predator like that while walking around in the woods? If deer can smell, see, hear you before you. Never go hiking in predator country without bear spray. I live in the Rockies and never go riding or walking without it. I’ve had to use it three times. Twice on Grizzlies and once on a cougar.
You've just gotta buck up to them. Chase them. Asset dominance. Kitties are pretty easily freaked out and don't stick around for craziness. That's the key... Act crazy and sporadic at them. They'll bail.
They actually have many names depending where you live puma, cougars or Mt lion. And harassment with the dogs is good a healthy fear of humans makes attacks less likely and keeps the cat away from the guy that shoots first.

Sometimes tranquilizers can't be use, usually because the cougar is a spot where they can't get a clear shot, like under the house in that one clip.
