Air Walker has always been the Herald of Galactus that I knew the least about since the majority of his early appearances took place before I started collecting comics. Thanks for filling in my knowledge gap once again. It would be great to see a companion piece to this on Firelord. Or maybe a video on the history of the position of Herald of Galactus. As always MAKE MINE THE MERRY MARVELITE!!!!
This was always a weird situation: the Air-Walker was the one character created by Marvel that we never truly met - only the android that Galactus created after the Air-Walker was killed. I don't think we ever had a story focusing on the real Air-Walker, not even a significant flashback story.
This is the John Buscema run on the Fantastic Four, which I truly love. I'm glad you're covering Gabriel the Air Walker. I still have a lot of these issues at home, these would've been from the early 70s which I purchased in the 90s. Great synopsis on one of the least remembered heralds of Galactus.

Wow, I loved this episode! The first issue of Fantastic Four that I ever bought off the spinner rack was #120 with Air-Walker on the cover!! And so, this topic has special nostalgic appeal for me. And then, you take the time to summarize many of the other heralds of Galactus! Thank you!
This is the only pre-90’s herald that I wasn’t familiar with. Thanks for shedding more light on him. The most recent FF omnibus features his first appearance so I’ll have to check that out when I get to finally read it.
It just goes to show that comics history will always show you something you'd never seen before I knew who Air Walker was, that he was a herald of Galactus but I didn't know ANY of that Xandar stuff. I probably read it in some reference book or the other but it just slid right off my brain.
I enjoyed learning about this obscure character who I've only encountered in a few times over the years; I had no idea that Gabriel was involved in so many stories,. Interestingly (to me) the first comic I ever bought myself was that issue of the FF featuring the Silver Surfer when he was suppose to follow Galactus in the issue right after the Gabriel story. I don't remember any Air-Walker mentions in that issue but I do remember Reed getting shot by the National Guard and then being cured by the Surfer. This would have been soon after the Kent State shootings (in real life).

Maybe Airwalker is alive and doing something in the background. Like a cosmic Captain america leading a secret war againt the ovoids and there secret masters. Why all this time people thought Galactacus was making new hearlds, but is really making an army..... Look at all of his peeps. They all serve a function. Airwalker the leader, firelord/ Nova firepower, Tyrant- tech etc etc... I kind of envisioned airwalker upgraded with maybe a weapon (flame sword)and a shield ( sun shaped like is chest piece) his outfit a little more armor like, more Roman in the bottom half. Super cool character with lots of potential but it never made sense to me that he never bought him back to life.

Air-Walker is popular enough to get into Marvel Contest of Champions and have his own Vs Battles Wiki page, yet apparently he isn't popular enough for his story to be properly explored. There's so much untapped potential here. Galactus suddenly interrupts what seems to be interesting and complex character arc of a disillusioned soldier reevaluating principles of his society. Why did none of the writers ever resurrect the original Air-Walker? What happened to the rest of Way-Opener crew? Is there a reason why Galactus kept copping out instead of just reveal that Gabriel was injured by the psychic aliens? After years of playing second fiddle to the likes of Silver Surfer, Firelord and Nova, perhaps it's time to give Air-Walker his own tale.
Is Air-Walker similar to Warren Worthington Angel/Archangel when referred to an Angel? Is Air-Walker similar to the Vision when referred to an Android? Can you do history of Warren Worthington Angel/Archangel?
IMO, they should let more characters actually die, and instead of reviving them, create new ones. It's easy enough to create new ones, and it makes continuity so much easier.
What do I think/where would I like him to go next? In the video, you said Air Walker's original body was preserved by Galactus, right? Maybe even after the robot body was made? And Galactus didn't heal him because at the time he was weakened from hunger? OK, here we go! Have a new story that establishes that Galactus actually liked the android's coldness and apathy, preferring it over the friendship of the original Gabriel, therefor leaving Gabriel's original body, and personality, intact and preserved in stasis. Galactus preferred this because it made the process of finding good worlds to feed on simpler, quicker, more efficient, and that took precedent over friendship. After all the time that has passed, and everything Galactus has been through....which has been a lot over the past 20-30 years......he finally decideds to use his Power Cosmic to fix Gabriel's original body. Gabe wakes up, has a little chat with Galactus, who fills him in on what's happened the past several years....but an edited version. Gabe, being Galactus' friend, knows he is holding something(s) back. have the story progress over many issues where Gabe finds out these truths bit by bit over time, the good and the bad, Galactus' darker moments.....but ultimately forgives him and accepts this. When Galactus asks why Gabe forgives and him and accepts all of this, Gabe replies "because that's what friends do. And where would you be if no one at least tried to be your friend?", which immediately puts the revelations of all the events Galactus took part in since Gabriel's original "death" and puts it all in a whole new perspective....how much of it would have been different, better, if Galactus had brought the original Gabriel back to life as soon as he could have, instead of waiting so long? That alone would make a good story to tell over time and many comic issues. Another thing worth doing is showing major differences between the original Gabriel and the android version, and their personalities and how they think. Have the new(old) Gabe meet some old enemies, especially ones that killed him. OG Gabe has the same0ish power as the android, but he's not as cold, and he CAN think outside the box and is tactically brilliant. Have him show off that Xandarian Nova Corp war hero legendary mind he had. Also, show that that race, the Ovoids, that killed him the first time....show that they got lucky last time, and that Air Walker DOES learn from his mistakes, and have him mess up their shit. Then have him encounter the various beings that killed the android version on various ocassions, and have him show these enemies that he's not as "robotic" in his actions, and have him actually be a damn good fighter. There's other stuff, but that's my start of an idea for what to do with Gabriel the Air Walker.
Galactus is powerful enough to bring a planet back to life yet he couldn't bring Gabriel back and choose to put his consciousness in a fragile machine 😂
Interesting how while the Surfer was able to revive a near=dead Thor in Thor #193 Galactus for all his power cosmic couldn't do the same for Gabriel. I guess he never thought of cloning the original's body.

My first issue was FF 123. I missed the Air-Walker part of the story but still have the nostalgia for that era of Fantastic Four.

Air Walker was very cool and mysterious. I'd like to see the living Walker return. He only lasted for 1 maybe 2 comics.

People in Marvel have strange tendency to trust Galactus. Well, it's more like a life bet. Either death of their home or their slavery.
You should have mentioned how Vince Chase was hand picked by Stan Lee to play him in the movie.
