Man, gaming was so different when I was a kid. When we didn't have thousands of games at our fingertips and just played whatever we could get our hands on.
I had that "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" game! And my friend had the Life game! We wold alternate between playing the two. I don't think the lack of CD-ROM drives is as much the problem. As you pointed out yourself, the Minecraft cereal came with download codes. I think it has more to do with price to produce a game. In order to produce a video game for a cereal, but then to sell the video game at the price of a box of cereal, the cereal companies would surely lose money. Not worth it to the cereal companies, no matter how much it formed our childhood
Oh man, so many core memories. All my favorite games as a kid, as it turns out, came out of cereal boxes. No wonder I'm a fatass lol. There was also a brief period in the early 2000s where games were even sold with McDonalds meals. I distinctly remember getting games based on Treasure Planet and Atlantis: The Lost Empire.
At least they remastered the chex quest game for the switch and it's really good. I love Doom and i love this game as well. I might have pulled the one chex quest game that never worked. My first real experience at playing Chex Quest was a few weeks ago when i bought it on sale for $0.50
thing is like 99% of these WERE NOT included in the box, like "chex quest" was, and if it was (like "age of empires") it was JUST a demo, not the full game. most of the time you had to get FIVE (5) different boxes that all had promo code things for the same game, and then PHYSICALLY MAIL THEM IN, (along with $5.99 for shiping and handling) and wait 8-12 WEEKS to get the game back in the mail.......
The most trash cereal of all time [King Vitamin] had the same treasure hunt on the back of the box since the 80s. I think only poor kids ate that cereal. I was a poor kid for a few years.
Are we not going to engage with the fact that a lot of the Chex Quest development was done by a high-school kid? I'd recommend LGR's channel to get a way more in-depth look into that series of games and their development.
