I finally got my dream car. I only regret that my dad didn't get to see me in it. 😔

There's no doubt that the C-5 is the best performance car value available. A stock base coupe can still outperform 90% of the cars on the road today, yet it's a nearly 30 year old design. The aftermarket support, especially for race quality components is unrivaled. Wheel choices are also vast as they will accommodate C6, C7, and C8 wheels. They are not so overwhelmingly electronic laden as the subsequent variants. At 345 horsepower in the base engines, it performs excellent and is extremely durable and dependable as well as achieving some incredible mpg numbers for a v8. If it isn't powerful enough, there are so many performance options as the LS based architecture has become the most aftermarket supported platform ever, recently surpassing the Small Block Chevy. With very few suspension mods, they can be successful autocross competitors, without even increasing power. Great cars, but unfortunately the numbers are dwindling from floods, and accidents. I daily drive my 2000 Arctic White 6spd base and drive it hard. It always comes back for more.

You’ve definitely done your homework about the C-5 Corvette and you’re absolutely correct About the values going up , I have a 1997 black on black coupe because they only made coupes in 1997 Only 9752 built in 1997 making them rare for that year, I wouldn’t be surprised if these cars end up worth six figures one day

Good to know, thanks for your review. I personally have a C6 and absolutely love it and not planning on selling but it's good to know this info incase I want to give her a little brother 🙏
This is my realistic dream car, and I really hope it doesn't skyrocket in price or popularity. Because I want to be able to buy one one day. I'm 18yr so as you could guess I have more important priorities right now, like a house, a reliable daily driver, possibly secondary education, and a stable job/source of income. But man do I love this car! In the last few years I really have grown a love for japanese cars, particularly the popup headlights I think it adds so much character to a car, but my family has always been American muscle lovers. So I really think that the c5 is the perfect mix for me.
Good job sticking to your priorities those are more important. The car will come as it did for me. I had the same mentality as you do when i was younger. Im 34 now and because of Gods good grace and hard work and sacrifice. I have a C5 along with the important priorities. My advice buy a small cheap reliable for daily. . Save for both a home and C5 at the same time, but buy the C5 before the home.
Awesome video with lots of great info. I stole my 98 Convertible auto (89,000) in 2017 for 7,500. I was looking for a 6 speed but i couldn't pass on the deal. It's in mint condition with a few tasteful mods but nothing crazy. My wife said we're never selling it so its value on resale doesn't really matter, but it's still good to know its appreciating well. Thanks for sharing and have a great Thanksgiving holiday 😀👍👍🤙
Brother your spot on !! I bought 2- C5 Convertible Corvettes back in 2019. 01 Speedway White w/ Red interior - 02 Torch Red w/ Red Interior both have a WHITE TOP. I had a gut feeling the timeless body lines we're going to look exotic in the future. Big time get compliments when I drive them during the summer. Both are clean as F 💯🔥💯🔥💯🔥
People are also starting to buy up c5 corvettes in Australia as they are old enough now that they do not have to be rhd anymore and doesnt have the costs of that
@@diegoguerrero3588 heck yeah! 133k miles is still young man, these cars last a long time if they are taken care of. Good luck, I hope it’s a good one!
Great Info MHM! thanks for sharing with us. Question? Can anyone advise me on which C-5 had those big round tail lights please? Thanks Much!!!!! Cheers from Michigan.
You didn’t mention the 2003 50th anniversary edition. I have a 2003 Anniversary edition totally original even the tires. Could you mention its value? Thanks . Chicago
bought my 03 Z06 in 2012. Original owner had Les Stanford Chevy build up the engine and put a blower on it. Dyno'd at 580 rwhp. I've put on 16k miles over the past 12 years, mostly freeway miles hunting for the occassional roll race and embarrassing Hellcat owners, lol. She collects more dust than bug guts and at 65 years old my desire to drive her has dwindled a bit. Paid 25k for her and could sell her for that no doubt. 40k miles right now.
Out of the 27 corvettes I've had over the years, 7 have been C5s. I've had Sticks, Automatic, coupes and convertibles and at 6'3" 240lbs, I find the passenger compartment the roomiest of all the C series corvettes. I understand looking for OEM Stock, but I would say there are some value upgrades that shouldn't be overlooked. I started my current 2000 with 63K miles off by having it inspected, and everything found fixed. It drove away from the shop like a brand-new car. I put C7 seats in it as the C5 Sport Seats are fiber glass supported and the C7 is metal and a far superior Seat. I also added a Back-up Camera. Wheels can dress the car up to taste.
The only real complaint about my C5, is the factory seats. They are so awful it’s almost laughable. Everyone should price that in, if they are looking to buy a C5
Damn right on the button I got my C5 for 5,000 2000 convertible from a mechanic who was moving out of state I will never find one that cheap again and as good as condition that it was😢
During the pandemic I purchased my C5 Corvette add a very high price but now I see that the price is going down the value of cars dropping yesterday I went to a gas station in a man came out to my car and says I want to buy that car I have enough money in my billfold to purchase it does that tell you anything
Interesting to see that you chose two white cars in the early part of this video as well as the thumbnail. Im the proud owner of an 01 Speedway White C5Z. Nice content!
Yea I got an 07 z51 6 speed manual 3lt 52 k, harmonic balancer is newer has a mid pipe and billy boat exhaust and I’m convinced it’s never seen rain in its life and paid just under 23k
i have 3 c5's right now. i dont see any of them appreciating. i have a twin turbo 800whp metallic blue, i have a HCI 500whp in black, and a 50th anv convertible.
I have a C5 conv with 90xxx miles. It has been reliable, comfortable, and fast everyday for 22 years. When I am not driving my C5, it makes me happy that it is in my garage waiting for me, and usually better weather. I still think she is great looking, that is not true of the MB, BMW, or Jaguar of the era. thanks
What's my 2000 convertiable with red interior and black top a d bottom, 6 speed. Verified by corvette museum - 1 of 24 for 2000. Near mint, all options, 50,000 miles , worth in real dollars? Thanks
1999 C5 6spd w/AH, black, glass targa, chrome wagon wheels. Bought in 2007 for $14.5k , w/85k miles Sold in 2009 for $12.5k, w/135k miles Very good shape, shiny paint with swirls, door vinyl with the typical bubble. I replaced the water pump and starter. 50k miles in 2 yrs for $2k depreciation, better than a honda imo
Well let me tell you something buddy. I live in Spain and a C5 Vette is not seen as a GTI but more like a supercar (which happens in the other way in the US). So prices are higher than in the US of course. I bought my totally stock 01 millennium yellow Coupe 18months ago for 27k EURO (close to 30k dollars) and it was one of the most expensive on sale at that time (cheapest 6mt was 22k euro and about 16k the 4AT). Right now the most expensive 6mt is about 35k euro and there are only 2 manuals on sale and like 8 automatics for 22k avrg. And I haven't talked about Z06 models - not sold officially in Europe so you can see a Z06 for much over 50k euro (if you see one for sale). This car deserves a much higher price tag as you said "V8, rwd and manual transmission"... especially when bmw silly owners asks for almost 20k euro for a 328ci E36...and you gotta be SILLY to spend that amount of money in such a garbage car. Or 22k for a modded rsps13 nissan 200sx with the explosive CA18det. Totally nuts. The good thing when prices go up is that the car will avoid going to the wrong hands (in most cases) so that's good. Negative side is for current owners the spare parts will also go up. 👋🏼
I Bought my 98 6spd with 68k miles from a dealer for $15k about a year and half ago and its my daily. Gets around great in the winter, and its cheap on insurance even with speeding tickets on my record. Ive bought and sold two sets of magnesium wheels and it seems only collectors or people wanting bargin light weight wheels are buying them, and people buying c5s as a midlife crisis car are putting c6 z06 reps on them and sell the mags for $400. A full set in good condition is worth around $1600 from what ive seen. Unlike C4s theres more people interested in C5s as an affordable performance car, so likely theyll go up. In the midwest you can find cheap C5s for $8-15k from what im seeing currently.
My favorite color is Nassau Blue, feel free to correct me if I am wrong but, I think they only came on 97- 98 cars, therefore, that color has to be rare too.
Yeah they only did that one for a couple early years which sucks because it’s so nice looking but you get the early negatives. That’s why I went for an electron blue 03. Looks killer in the sun but has the end of the gen upgrades
Yes the C5 will hold value and may even climb a tad. It will depend on mileage because it counts with any Vette as far as holding value. I have a C6 and same holds true except the C6 will always be worth more than the C5 due to the C6 having the LS3 engine. Base has more HP than the C5 and with active exhaust it has 438 HP.
I considered buying a c5. they are affordable and quick. I enjoy my c3 styling is timeless, not quite as comfortable. it will do. collector cars always stall when economy is bad.
Regular C5s are at an all time low here in Canada. You can buy a 6speed manual, averaging around 100,000km for $14k CAD. I feel like people are just listing for cheaper each year
I don't care about price because not getting rid of my base.Just know that if you are not somewhat mechanically inclined .ANY 20+ year old car might not be for you. That is of course you have the capital to have a mechanic work on it.Even though when i got my 04 with 27k miles there are things that need to be done just because of age. They are known for the dampener getting wobbly. That there is not for the guy that feels like he accomplished something by changing the windshield wipers.Little things that clean up a old car can be as simple putting the 2 new emblems on front and back.Yea ya have to bite the bullet because they cost like $300 bucks for 2 emblems.Anyway never regretted getting mine what 9 years ago now
Agree completely; too many people on Reddit seem to be going for C5s without having a clue about the age issue requiring ongoing maintenance for all the quirky little things that happen. Stuff breaks; old stuff breaks more often. And too low mileage on a car designed to be driven can lead to more problems than a properly-maintained car with 100k miles on it.
I have 02 c5 base with 20k miles museum delivery magnetic red have one year should have bought a Vette 10 years ago also matters where you buy east coast more dollars I overpaid little bit happy
TRACK?? NO!!! Okay maybe once or twice..lol But please people preserve these beautiful cars so they stay around. I myself have a 2008 C6 base model. I bought it November 2019 for $18,900 with only 76K. I love it, never plan to sell it. Peace and chicken grease 🤘
Once the stance and drift kids started getting their hands on these cars was the moment I realized the value will only go up. Drift and stance tax will hit in the next decade
Almost bought a 02 coupe for $7500 .unfortunately timing was lousy . when I was ready to buy the announcement was made to shut down the country because of Covid ..... goodbye Vette 😢.
The C5 is a very good car. It's got good power, good looks, and is pretty reliable. It's aged well, instantly identifiable as a Corvette and it should hold it's value very well and may increase for very nice condition, low mileage examples. It's a significantly better car than the C4. The C3 has that sexy Coke bottle shiloette but it's a Flinstones moble compared to the C5.
@@pilhoney10 there was data on the convertible in the graphs but for the most part the convertible follows similar trends to the base coupe. It wouldn’t have added a ton of value to differentiate between them
@@KA-te7xk for sure, I never said they weren’t more rare. But they will follow the same trends. You could see from the KBB data I showed in the video the convertible prices are slightly higher than the coupe prices. But they aren’t different enough like the Z06 that I thought it would be super beneficial to make it a point to talk about it
You gotta look at the vette market as a whole Guys with c6s want c7s. Guys with c7s want c8s. But covid made c8s scarce. So the price of c8s sky rocketed. But now there are plenty of c8s, so they don't get the premium price any more. C8 price drops and you cant get top dollar for c7 if they're priced into c8 range. Then c7 prices are dropping. Then why buy c6 when you can get c7 for under $40,000. So c6 prices drop. Some c5s are $25,000. But for that money you could get a c6. So c5 prices will drop. In 2028-29 the C9 will come out and squash the c8 market, pushing everything down again.
Easy to answer... A c7 is just a powerful GrandTourer but it is not as nasty and raw as a c6 which is what car enthusiasts are looking for (or "driftroyers"). A C5 is also a more raw, fun and classic and supercar a-like looking so it's a totally different animal. And I'm not referring to engine power which of course a c7 is on top of that. But fun and joy factor doesn't equal engine power. So yeah it has some sense the c7 prices could drop dramatically below any of these two.
The day Trump was declared the victor I bought my C2. Silver 2002 with 28k, 6 speed. In my humble opinion now is the time to get them. Edit: I named the Vette, "President Trump" and got an ULTRA-MAGA stick on from Amazon, which I proudly placed on The Prez :)
@@michaeldelio1870 Lol, thanks! Put in LED headlights, interior lights, backup etc, changed the plugs and wires, and generally just been having a blast :)
I love my C5... but if they do increase in price I believe the bump won't last too long. In two years, the first C5s will hit 30 years old and each year more will cross that threshold. It's difficult for people to wrap their heads around buying a car that's three decades old. And as more of them turn over from relatively unmodified to heavily modified, the overall demand will also decrease. "Make it yours" is great while you own it, not so great (generally) when it comes time to sell. Just my thoughts, of course! Keep up the great work.
@@CorkVanDenHandel thanks for always sharing! I appreciate your support! It definitely could go either way, only time will tell! I don’t have a crystal ball lol!
with the aftermarket out there you can make it a new car, cant get that with most cars, so if you got the cash you can make it better than any new car out there.
I'm sitting here wanting to get into the corvette game. I have no interest in anything newer than a c5. I test drove some c4's and they are ok. I drove a stock c5 and its much better. I'm sort of torn between just getting into the game with the c4 with the intent to eventually upgrade to c5 z06. I am quite afraid that from here on out, c5 z06 prices are going to rise.
Pay a little more and get a C-6 instead. It's a much more refined car with a better engine, better interior,(that's not hard), and no they're not fiberglass. Its FRP, that's fiberglass reinforced plastic. But if the headlights give you that oooo feeling buy one! 😂🤣
@@TexasRiverRat31254 the C6 is a great car too but I mean I wouldn’t say “much more refined” unless you get the LS3. Also I said it’s SMC which is a type of fiberglass lmao.
@@milehighmisfitsand the C7 even more so…no balsa wood floor panels, all aluminum frame, modern tech and power delivery with the critical backup camera to save spoilers from an early parking demise (just back it in every time)

I have a 98 convertible in the same color. It's a beautiful car.
Thanks good to hear your opinion. I have a ‘98 convertible 6 speed in mint shape. I plan on holding on to it. 👍
Good to know, thanks for your review. I personally have a C6 and absolutely love it and not planning on selling but it's good to know this info incase I want to give her a little brother 🙏
You are so correct. I'm trying to buy my neighbors C5 it has around 50K miles on it.

Got my 2004 with 70k $17k 3 months ago
Had a 97 C5 for 23 years. Never going to sell it.

The closest recent color is the C6 ZR1 Jet Stream Blue.

Of course the C5 Z06's are going to go up in value. I just traded mine on a C8.
Regular C5s are at an all time low here in Canada. You can buy a 6speed manual, averaging around 100,000km for $14k CAD. I feel like people are just listing for cheaper each year
Def a not suitable for your climate conditions! 😂
where in canada are you located?

Once the stance and drift kids started getting their hands on these cars was the moment I realized the value will only go up. Drift and stance tax will hit in the next decade

@ I have a 99 convertible with magnesium wheels he spoke of, only 2000 copy’s of the one I have. Thank you
You gotta look at the vette market as a whole
Guys with c6s want c7s.

LMFAO!!
