Skywatching in Jezero Crater, Mars.

  • Let’s say you had a few evenings free this spring, on Mars. You’re hanging out in Jezero Crater with Perseverance and Ingenuity. Every night, around sunset, you go outside (hold your breath) and take some pictures of the sky. You’d be able to see the three inner planets: Earth, Venus and Mercury near the sun. You’d notice that Earth and Venus stay close together in the sky for much of spring 2022. You talk to your friends on Earth and they say: “cool! From where we are, it looks like you and Venus pretty close together in the sky too!”. You then consult the solar system model in the upper panel and convince yourself this makes sense!. Do it!
    Oh, and it might be a little windy out. That’s the sound in the background, recorded by your rover friend Perseverance.
