    Bruh don't worry about how deep your voice is. It's fine you sound silky smooth. It's so much better than a high pitch voice squeaking in your ear. You're fine fam.

      But the placement of the microphones is wrong, isnt it?
      They should be angled outwards. If you were to step away some distance with this kind of setup the sound on the right would be louder even of you are standing on the left.

Then I randomly come across this and now BAM tingles, I'm pretty sure it's the ear to ear that gets me the most. I never really delved into it too much. But I like the mics! I'll have to check their store to see if I can get me a new microphone instead of my headset one. :) Hope everyone has a great sleep tonight!

    As an audio guy/producer, I've always wondered "How comes ASMRtists all use such budget/cheap microphones?" - I wondered if they liked the lofi quality of it better, or if the brittle high end that cheap mics have were in some way superior for tingles... Or if ASMRtists just weren't that into microphones?
    I enjoyed the ASMR with better audio even more than usual. :)

    • @JXter_
      @JXter_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      It's probably because it's a low entry barrier for ASMR. Your average Joe can go to the local Walmart and pick up a Blue Yeti for like $130 and will be practically set for a full-fledged ASMR channel. At that point there's no real need to upgrade for a while because mics like the Yeti are so ubiquitous in ASMR and people seem to like it regardless of how good the mic is. I mean, people literally bite earbud microphones as a trigger, so clearly high fidelity audio isn't a staple of ASMR.

    • @ameliarose47
      @ameliarose47 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      High end mics like this are quite a chunk of change to put down, especially since ASMRtists don't necessarily make that much when you consider they can't use any midroll ads. I'm sure they make money, but I'm sure it's low compared to other TH-camrs with the same stats due to the absence of midroll.

    Gibi!
    You mention the "sound pattern" while tapping the toast.
    Mics are designed to be used along an axis, so rotating them in space through 360° on the X/Y while monitoring will show you where your preference is. Then of course you could move them to wherever & whatever angle suits given practicalities. The closer you are to the zenith the less directional (plainer?) the mic will sound.
    Love your work!

    We've seen dynamic microphones, we seen condenser microphones, but none of these videos have used a ribbon microphone. The nifty trick with a ribbon microphones is that they act like a human ear and can pick up sounds far more accurately without adding a separate "flavor" that every condenser offers. Dynamics do the opposite, they reject a majority of sound, besides mostly the darker tones of your voice, mainly for noiser climates, and live performances. Ribbons are slightly more expensive then what condensers start at, like more budget-er options like the sE electronics X1R start around 279$ before shockmount and pop filter. Most of price range goes between 400 - 600$ with my personal favorite being the Royer R10. If you really feel like you need a condenser, I recommend the Earthworks Icon Pro, a microphone designed specifically for ASMR, usually going for 499$ on most sites

    Strange about the NT1 reliability issue. I record music with a 16-year-old NT1-A, and it has been through no fewer than seven moves. Maybe the build quality used to be better on the older ones. Regardless the AKGs are great!

  • @Dutch3DMaster

    Little hint on cardioid patterns: They rarely to basically never apply to contact-sounds on the microphone (if contact sounds are mentioned it's because some microphones are much more sensitive to handling noise than others and require being stationary on a microphone stand much more), they are telling the user something about non-contact sounds and compared to where around the element they happen and will be recorded best.
    A hypercardioid is like a directional microphone (I was surprised to see something that should resemble that on the AKG's...it usually doesn't really work that way in such a small formfactor, microphones rarely are both types in one package), and a supercardioid is like a superdirectional microphone (you can see these strapped down to the studio lenses alongside football and soccer fields so you can hear the "THUMP" when the ball is kicked very well, for instance).
    Sometimes you might also see someone carrying a polycarbonate dome with the microphone fixed to that in reverse, to capture a very narrow "field of view" from the microphone, even more narrow than it already is capable of registering.
    As for omni-directional microphones: the kidney-shaped cardioid and the wider variant and round one of that make that an omnidirectional microphone.

    • @sanjacobs6261
      @sanjacobs6261 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Don't confuse supercardioid with lobar and the presence of interference tubes. Mics used to pick up football kicks don't get their intense directionality from a supercardioid pattern, but from massive interference tubes and/or DSP.
      Supercardioid is simply omni+8+8.

      @Dutch3DMaster 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sanjacobs6261 True, but in some cases the old-style plexiglass domes definitely helped a lot to achieve the same thing, you ocassionally still see someone walking around with such a thing around a steadicammer.

      agree. I like more bass in asmr sound, easier to the ears in quiet surroundings and better for relaxation. Blue Yeti is great for that same with ARA. 414s are a little to high pitch and crisp, which is great as mics and not my favorite for asmr. brushing is always gonna be high pitch, that’s why it sounded fine.

    I'm very into audio too (clearly) but I also don't really know much of the technical lingo. I really appreciate the way you talk about it and prove that as long as you have a good ear, you can be good at this. The ear-to-ear feeling of the 414's is impressive. Even with you just facing towards one over the other, I notice the slight difference. I think those windscreens/foam covers are the smoothest ones I've ever heard, brushing those sounded like gentle ocean waves rolling onto the shore. I'm looking forward to hearing more with these mics! I hadn't seen the book light before, so I was thinking, "Wait, that's just a book," before you opened it. It sounds beautiful. So does your voice! As a woman with a lower voice I understand how it can feel when you're trying to do certain things, or in certain ways lmao. I absolutely love voices like yours though, very smooth and soothing, great for ASMR. No need to worry about it at all.
    Also... hope I'm not the only one who kinda likes the sounds of bumping the wires on the ARA! Because of the price point and corresponding level of quality, it sounds more hollow than the 414's, which I think might soften the blows of sounds like that, if that makes sense? If it were done intentionally, and maybe more gently, I think that could actually be nice. Just something to think about.
