    Very cool. I was just reading about this the other day when researching the geographic center of Arizona. Definitely going to check this out.

      Thanks! Funny timing about that. I'm guessing the center must be somewhere close by?

    Very nice history. I love this tour. The relics are very well-preserved. For me, the Old west has always fascinated, as depicted in many movies. Musical instruments are so unique. This video gives an option to how life was in the 1800s, simple and stress-free :P

      Thanks! I'm sure life was tough but it would be interesting to see how people then would feel about traffic, social media and all the rest of today's life. 😅

    Thanks Glenn my old west re-enactment group was there in 2016dressed up walked around ambience. It’s amazing dirt in Az history. Way out there is small wooden cabins with port holes for Apache attacks. I won’t mind seeing it again in 2024-2025.

      We thought about seeing a re-enactment there but never made it out.

    At 7:48 that looks like part of a lathe! Maybe a wood lathe? I also see some blacksmithing stuff. Neat!

      It very well could be. There was a lot of little details in those rooms. 😀

    Ouch that chair! 😀 I love those historic destinations. It always fascinates me that it wasn’t that long ago and so vastly different from what we experience now

      You and me both! Here these people were trying to defend crops and we're trying to defend mini-computers from 4-5 foot falls from our hands. 🤣

    Some great history at these old forts. If you ever come back to west Texas, Fort Davis is the most well preserved military outpost of all in the south, and is not to be missed. Nearby , Fort McKavett is almost as extensive. Both are in such picturesque settings. The parade grounds re-enactments are quite stirring.

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  ปีที่แล้ว

      We were quite close to Fort Davis... just didn't have the time. That drive out to Texas is quite a long one! 😅 Hopefully we can make it back out one day.

    Very interesting buildings on the inside and out. I always assumed that the soldiers lived in much more rustic housing but it was fairly nice. The commanders house was almost elegant for the time. I guess the old westerns portrayed it much differently. Love seeing the historic places you take us to see.

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's likely that because it was a permanent fort that led to the buildings being more comfortable than those one would have seen at a camp. But yeah... movies aren't always accurate. 😄

    Thanks for the vid...I've passed by it twice and wondered...just last Sunday I went to Montezuma's castle for the first time, nearby and saw that sign again...wondered if there was something worth my time...now I know.

    Only the toughest survived during the 19th century in the western frontier! Could our society adapt to the conditions?

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was definitely a different time for sure. I often wonder what it would be like if today's society were suddenly forced to live that way as well. I'd like to say I'm optimistic about it but... 😂

    FYI: It's 'vair-day" NOT "ver-dee".

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In terms of the Spanish language, yes. I actually had a hell of a time not pronouncing it "vair-day" on the voiceovers. HOWEVER, locals actually pronounced it "ver-dee". You can hear how they pronounce it on their official website - azstateparks.com/fort-verde/fort-verde/about-the-fort/park-history

      @@CactusAtlas it’s like tomato/tomahto. I used to work on a street called grosvenor, I think it’s Dutch and the s is silent, but I don’t care, I still pronounce the s because everyone else does.

      Not the happiest story sadly but seems a lot from that era go the same way. Thanks so much for watching!
