    Actually you're wrong there. Vauxhall and Opel started out as two different companies. GM bought both companies in the 1920's and Opel is the brand that traveled around the world, not Vauxhall. Vauxhall has never been sold outside the UK.

    Actually, the Buick is a rebadged Opel/Vauxhall Insignia. The Regal is now also built by GM Canada, but until 2011 they were imported. The car is designed, engineered and built by Opel in Russelsheim, Germany

    So... in the UK it's a Vauxhall VXR, in Germany it's an Opel Insignia OPC and in the US it's a Buick Regal GS.
    Now the question is... wich came first?

    • @WhiteSlift
      @WhiteSlift 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I believe it was developed by GM/Opel in Germany and sold as Opel and Vauxhall at the same time. So Opel and Vauxhall came first together and the Buick is just a knock-off.

    nice road test by James May on the Vauxhall insignia Vxr and it's possible for series 23 to have this Vauxhall insignia vxr tested against its American and Canadian version the Buick Regal GS with Chris Evans taking Vauxhall insignia vxr, but Matt LeBlanc on the Buick Regal GS. Regarding signs that Margaret Calvert made she must have copied blue
    signs on the interstate highway indicate a service area or food and fuel for use as junction signs like the ones on M20 Junction 11a Channel Tunnel folkestone or M1 Junction 19 M6 Birmingham The North West

    Holden is Australian haha but yes all 3 companies I'm pretty sure run under GM (General Motors) where they'll rebadge cars to sell in different countries. Hence why you'll see pretty much the same car with a different badge. The Opel Astra for example, don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure is sold under Vauxhall in the UK and under Holden in Australia for along time (however Opel now sell cars in Australia so it's under Opel here now too.)

  • @miltos_carhub

  • @dolphtrains2
    @dolphtrains2 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    the vauxhall insignia was designed and developed in luton, england with a little help from saab engineers who were contracted to develop the turbocharging and peformance technology and overall build quality. ( previous to this model, vauxhall has always had build quality issues ). GM then marketed the insignia under different names for different markets including buick in america, and the platform was available to saab to develop it's new 2010 saab 9-5 model ( which was even better )

    Only in Great Britain. The rest of Europe it's Opel, simply because Brits prefer to buy a British brand. Little do they know, it's actually a rebadged Opel. Since the 1980's, practicly every single car produced by Vauxhall, are enginered by Opel in Russelsheim, Germany.

    Well, I agree with the last sentence, it's what I meant, I'm sorry if you misunderstood me. I don't understand what you mean by "the name Opel comes from Opelisation...". The name Opel comes from Adam Opel who founded Opel in 1860s in Germany. Of course, under GM, both Opel and Vauxhall have borrowed designs from one another and were cars from the same generation were based on the same, well, base. Today, most of the engineering and the design phase take place in Germany...

    As a Norwegian it's funny to watch TopGear and hearing what "expensive" cars cost in the UK...
    Here's the numbers in Norway:
    The Opel Insignia 1,4T costs from 33000 GBP...
    A wagon with a 2litre 110HP turbodiesel will set you back about 35000 GBP, that's the most popular one here....
    And of course there's the 2,8T AWD OPC edition, wich costs from 105000 GBP.... Wich isn't so popular, for obvious reasons.

    but well, i think everyone can just check wikipedia for more info :)

    Opel designes and produces cars for the European market. Opel is a subsidairy of GM since 1929. That didn't stop them from developing their own cars. GM has always let them develop their own cars. From 1980's Vauxhall became part of General Motors and was from now only producing Opel developed cars, with a Vauxhall badge.

  • @LukeHarris1
    @LukeHarris1 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wouldn't call it "deceiving". Many car companies rebadge cars as different brands for different markets. I'm an Aussie living in the US and here they badge a lot of Hondas as Acuras, their "luxury division". They're not trying to deceive people, it's just brand differentiation. I understand your saying that they are trying to sell Korean crap, and die-hard Holden fans think it's great anyway (which is true) but that's not the fault of the company, it's people who don't research what a car is.

    When will people understand that GM use brands as they like. So many cars developed by GM hold companys are used in other markets under completly other brands and names. Opel is the best example here. While the Insignia is brought to the American market as a Buick most other models are know as Saturn. Other way around the Chrevrolet Volt was brought to Germany also as the Opel Ampera. GM is all about technologie centers that compete to each other to get more investment for their home company.
