- The latest crop of hot hatches take to the track to find out which is the greatest. Now there are special packages available to make them the best on track. The Golf has been upgraded with the new TCR version while the Megane has received an update to a new ‘Trophy’ version making it the fastest FWD hot hatch around the Nurburgring. Hyundai are not going to miss out on the action with a new ‘performance pack’ on their i30N.

...and Type R? Where do you forget it?
Here in the US of A, two of these cars are not available. But, in addition to the Golf GTI, we have the Honda Civic Type R, the Toyota GR Corolla, and of course, the Golf R. Tough choice! I will add, the "hot hatch" has always been my favorite configuration for a car. I currently own, as well as two other Hyundais, a 2016 Veloster R which is almost all around perfect. Adequate (almost) power, hatch back practicality, and uses 87 octane fuel with good fuel mileage. Couldn't be (much) happier!
Civic though really isn't a hatchback, more of a liftback, not sure why Honda keeps calling it a hatchback can fit a dresser in my Golf, neighbor couldn't in his Civic. So if you want to move stuff around the Golf has the most "usable" space of the 3.
We have all those cars in the UK, it's kinda odd how the USA doesn't get certain cars or car models that everywhere else get.
@@cedric1138 Hatchbacks have never been really popular with Americans. They're almost as unpopular as manual shift transmissions, which are becoming increasingly rare here! As for driving, I spent my "formative years" in England, where I formed lifelong habits. I still drive with two hands on the steering wheel, love to heel and toe even if there's no good reason to do so, and even still sometimes refer to that glass in front of me as the windscreen.

@@bsuthe recent figures show that less than 5% of new cars in the US are manual cars. that's why the meme exists of a manual gearbox being a great anti-theft device. fewer and fewer people know how to drive it. ive only owned 2 automatic cars in my life, the other 20 or so were manuals. my daily now is a manual, and i wont trade it, even with my bad knees. it's just more fun! (my daily is a home-built vr6 Golf that we couldnt get in america, 5-door!)

yessssss go on Megane! i hope more people see the light when it comes to hot hatches and go Renault Sport, there just isn't really a comparison, they're not record holders around the Nurburgring for 3 different generations of Megane for nothing. i love my MK3 RS, if i was going to sell up and move on, the MK4 would be top of my list along with maybe the GR Yaris. the Germans although probably better built and more comfortable daily cars just don't give you a driving experience as the RS range. as anyone who has driven Golfs R, GT, Audi s3/ RS3, BMW M140i (which i've owned) and even the Mercs. they are just boring to drive compared

@Gary Allen yeah that should win but not been officially run yet. Again that's another drivers car I had a type r previously the fk8 to the mk4 meg the Renault is actually better build interior wise which is strange, honda have always been a thorn in renaults side when It comes to lap records but the mk4 megane still holds it for now until the new one is officially tested
I daily a Clio rs 200 and have a Megane r26 track car. Love the Renaultsports.
@David Stanford I daily mine and as track it as much as I can! Such an animal on track, I love how they are usually out gunning cars that cost twice as much haha

Im a big golf fan, but even I knew the other two would be more agile and make better track cars. The golf is just an all rounder really
The golf gti is just a badge thing. The golf gti is almost never a good hot hatch. Your profile picture indeed looks like a proper gti driver, drive it to be populair

Ha! Buy a Caterham, in the mountains it’d make an M135i look like it’s been driven by a learner. Each to their own - and I’d take the Hyundai N any day in big mountain country over the BM, I back onto huge twisty mountains🤘

I`d still take my 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 over any of these. Comparable, or higher, HP and Torque, but in a much more raw feeling package that offers a better driving experience, closer to the true hot hatch vibe.
Better driving experience? Man you wouldn’t see which way any of these things went in the mountains. If raw is old technology with less aids and slower I’ll agree with you🤘

Forget the Porsche and gt63 just buy an rs6 it will cover all your needs as a family car and it's cheaper

I would absolutley get the I30 N over the other two, reason is price. A used Megane is give or take 50% more money.

@@BuzzaB77 Here in Sweden the I30 and the I20 N is actually very popular so they hold value very well, the I20 N is actaully very hard to find, sold out very quickly.
But either way, the price difference i find very hard to justify.
I don't know where you get your prices from for second hand cars but 5k pounds for an r35 golf 5, same for the ricing on the 130i but not even close, both are around 15k euro and thats for a high mileage one. 5k and 6.5k nah not in this world.
