SCP-823 - Carnival of Horrors : Object Class - Euclid : Cognitohazard SCP
Item #: SCP-823
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-823 is to be secured by no fewer than six (6) on-site personnel until such time as decontamination protocols can be established and the artifact in question neutralized. Personnel must respect a twenty meter (20 m) safe zone around the currently established Red (No Entry) Zone at all costs. Any individual, civilian or not, who enters the established Red Zone is to be terminated immediately.
Should music or piping be heard emanating from within the Red Zone, Foundation personnel on-site are to immediately don protective earplugs and withdraw from their positions to a two kilometer (2 km) perimeter, beyond the currently established Yellow (No Civilian Presence) Zone, and inform Foundation scientific personnel immediately. Following the realignment event, Foundation science personnel will survey the area and determine the boundaries of the new Red and Yellow zones using Procedure 823-1-Alpha.

It might also be because, it's not very hard to contain: don't let anyone in, cover up the disappearances survey the area. Some work is needed, but there is no threat of imminent calamity.

Tbh the classifications are often not well attributed, I like most people initially thought it had to do with how dangerous/powerful the scp was, later I found out how it was in reference to how difficult the scp is to contain regardless of how "dangerous" it is,
but I'm pretty sure the teleporting man scp is classified as safe, while 4 possessed puppets that never left an abandoned theater, and only came alive at a certain time if there was someone in the audience, pretty easy to contain, was keter?

A good amount of photos are from Takakanonuma Greenland, an abandoned Japanese amusement park that has since been torn down to make a solar panel farm. Kinda weird, since it's apparently always foggy up there. Like Silent Hill, in a way. Something seems fishy about it.
I know I'm late to the party, but another nice abandoned amusement park to check out is Spreepark in former East Berlin.

This SCP is a great example of “Don’t Show the Monster.” Clef never directly mentions what actually causes these events to unfold, yet they all seem to hold some sort of ironic pattern to them. And though one might have an explanation to what causes some of the horrors to happen (probability manipulation, some invisible beast, the carnival itself), it still doesn’t explain every event, as if there is no right conclusion. The fact that the suicides of the MTF unit seem almost impossible to do to oneself and imply them going completely insane both lead to yet another conclusion that the carnival drives people crazy, but even that doesn’t explain everything.
In conclusion, due to the vagueness of possible causes for the anomaly, it evokes a fear of the unknown. Simultaneously, it causes you to think and remember the SCP, because you attempt to explain every event under the same cause. The only thing you can be sure of is that the carnival is causing this, but you don’t know the who, the what, the how, or the why.

I find it more plausible if it was an entity like the one that munched on the dismembered leg of that guy in the house of mirrors that just fucked the MTF commander, if he were to try bend his back so much he'd snap his spine, and then his brain wouldn't be able to control his bottom half anymore, so the option of possession or just madness is kinda off.
The top 3 things I loved about this SCP:
1:Sometimes all the foundation can do, is just contain.
2: Deaths of MTF. One was "skull fucked". One "ate a bullet". And one had his "teeth punched down his throat". So smart!
3: Such a simple yet, complex SCP event trigger. Every death is unique. Some ironic. Some clever. Some tricky.

For anyone who wants to know what happened to the Origami Toads in greater detail, there is a novel by Akira called Iris: Through the Looking Glass that explores the SCP foundation and a few of it's anomalies while telling a fantastic story

Harry Blum well, I’m gonna guess. I think the park is sentient, And able to manipulate its surroundings and people in it to however it wants. As for the music ? Il guess again and say, it’s trying to reach its power out to further areas, and try and manipulate more people and more surroundings. Perhaps if it doesn’t reach any new “hosts” it’ll shrink again. The “ringing” could be how it manipulates you. As for the yellow zone, il guess yet again and say it is the nearest possible distance you can be near the red zone before manipulation takes effect. Perhaps the ear defenders reduce the ringing effect so you can escape? Just a assumption, perhaps the snipers are to kill people entering the red zone as the park knows of the scp foundation and how it’s restricting visitors to it, which in turn keeps it “power” at a low level ? Or maybe the park will be able to control that person and able to take it “power” out of the park and infest it in other theme parks or other areas ?

10000 pounds of sloth cigars no scps that arent of the explained category are fully understood but this has got to be one of the most vague euclids ever. They dont explain reasoning for their containment procedures which pretty much all other scps have. Theres usually a past case of when they didnt have a certain precaution in place and subsequently an accident was caused and thats why the precaution was put in place. This yellow zone has no given reason whatsoever.

Something strange I noticed is that if a civilian breaches the red zone they have to be terminated by sniper fire
Normally with any other SCP if someone gets into a no-enter zone they are just left to die by whatever’s inside. But i think it’s clear there is something inside the carnival that the foundation wants to starve

This is how you write horror right here, you know shit happens, but you have no idea how it happens, mystery is one of the biggest tools when it comes to writing stories of any kind and it works specially well for horror
“Bloody Sunday” is already a thing. The Bogside Massacre. In 1972 British soldiers shot 28 unarmed civilians in a protest march against internment.
I think Bloody Sunday is also the nickname of a race riot that happened in the USA in the 20's.
I believe it was the name given to a massacre organized by a mobster, possibly Babyface Nelson.

The roller coaster is a actual thing. It's in Japan and it is now abandoned and so all of these pictures are real. And it is true many people died but not the way the SCP talks about them

something i found out recently, is some SCPs share a number. but only one has been terminated, cured, or destroyed.
SCPs seam to run in priority to their number. SCP-001, when day breaks occurred shortly after the events of the SCP game. possibly as a result of it. this is the most fit SCP 001 out there by far. with alot of fan made games and tunes to it.

It does seem to fall into the category of a kind of unknown hostile territory. Although it seems that this is less deadly than SCP 1936, but more than SCP 1678.

I think this is one of the early SCP that could use people going back and updating. Modern entries would have details on how the park appears, how each ride appears, what the workers if any look like. This one is very middle school writing assuming you know what everything is or looks like. "It is a carnival there is marry-go-round music playing....Anyway laundry list of deaths". There is a reason why Cragglewood Park stands out so much more while Carnival of Horrors gets lost in the noise.
Maybe people have submitted updates, but the Foundation didn't think they were needed or failed to align with the strict guidelines for submission.
My favourite scp
More deaths but nowhere near as many maimings as Action Park, the first theme park. The place was so dangerous for its anniversary it brought the County it was in 8 new ambulances to remove all the injured. The federal government kept coming up with new regulations for theme parks involving safety and maintenance of rides but the state and local government kept giving Action Park exceptions from those laws because of all the tax revenue it brought it.
Cart slides down hills into fields of rocks, a white water rafting ride with half inflated rafts and actual jagged rocks made out of concrete, a water slide with a loop-de-loop designed by the owner on a bar napkin, another slide called Caninball Run that gave people fiber glass burns, a rope jump into a creak fed pool of ice cold water that throws people into system shock and prevents people from swimming (induced several heart attacks), a too strong wave pool that needed a dedicated team of 35 life guards constantly saving people but was still unable to stop the pool from killing a small boy. Supposedly at its hight you could see golf carts whizzing through caring bandaged and bloody attendees out to the entrance to be taken to hospital in the waiting ambulances that were always on standby. (They showed up every morning because they knew it was just a matter of time)
