Hey guys there was a copyright claim on the video which is really fucking annoying wish I had gotten it sooner so I could have dealt with it before the video got a lot of views. So 41:21 to 41:52 is muted. So sorry!!
It's really good that more people are talking about Rayman again thanks to Mario + Rabbids and Captain Laserhawk. Hopefully THIS TIME Ubisoft listens to us and give us a new game.
Hahaha. It's Ubisoft. They're almost as bad as SEGA at neglecting their older franchises. However SEGA just announced a return of some of their franchises.
I do not want to burst any bubble..... but, probably the only way to get a new entry would be another creative lead (david soliani maybe?) taking on the project with a smaller budget, while the rest of sub-studios work on live-services and the likes for the major releases (meaning probably not ubisoft montpellier). The scope of the game would be quite reduced akin to something like the new prince of persia. The more likely scenario is to have a spiritual sequel that is crowdfounded by small indie devs. I'm happy he's getting the love but I'm trying to realistic.
I feel like Ubi is actually starting to pay attention to rayman again, in 2023 we got a youtooz figure, the sparks of hope dlc and captain lazerhawk, it can only go up from here
It's so great that I can truthfully say that we had a mini "Ray-naissance" this year. Atleast moreso on the social/community side of things. I only pray that it will continue into something bigger in the future...
In Rayman 2, if you press and hold L (on the N64 version), you'll get to a screen where you can scroll through texts that tell you what the Lums do, the origin of the Glade of Dreams which tells you how Polokus dreamt up the world and it's creatures, how the creatures then helped form the world, and that everyone lived in relative peace until the pirates invaded. Of course, you need the requisite amount of Yellow Lums to get all the lore.
It doesn't help that Rayman's creator, Michel Ancel, retired from the gaming industry. The prospect of a brand new, modern 3D Rayman would be incredible, but it seems Ubisoft really doesn't care about the franchise. Though, I was actually surprised to see Rayman even get a part in Mario & Rabbids Sparks of Hope DLC!

Actually, the ending sequence in Rayman 3 was rather a flashback of how Andre was born. The night before, Rayman slept walked and his hands came to life for some mischief. They scared a red Lum with shadow puppets and thus Andre came to be. So basically, it was all Rayman’s fault indirectly.
Glad there are other people out there who realise this, since the cutscene pans up to the two moons in the sky and does a fade transition to the moons being in a different part of the sky, implying a going-back in time
Globox having so many children makes sense since Frogs can lay more than 3000 eggs in order to secure that at least some of them survive; I guess his children were well cared for (until they got lost but he was kidnapped so).
In Chile back in the year 2000, a cloth wash detergent brand had Rayman bundled in for some reason, that's how I got the game and I still have the disc! It was called "Rayman Gold" for some reason and it ACTUALLY CAME WITH MAPPER!!! Completely in English too, I still have the disc and ripped it as an iso so if you ever feel like trying it hit me up 😅
It was infuriating dying so often but that doesn't make it a bad game. People confuse difficulty with quality. It's at least a B and for me personally an A.
The video was well informed, with a lot of Rayman stuff I did not know existed, even though Rayman Brain Games was the first ever video game I ever played and many things Rayman have been near and dear to my heart ever since. However, one genuine surprise I got was how you missed mentioning an entire whole Rayman video game, which is Rayman 3 for the GBA. That game is a weird case in the franchise because even though it has 3 in it's name, the story is almost nothing like Hoodlum Havoc. The game is like a weird fusion between Rayman 2 and Hoodlum Havoc, where the pirates from 2 hunt down Andre from Hoodlum Havoc, even keeping in the fact that Globox ate Andre, and its a whole weirdness in terms of story. Rayman 3 for the GBA is a 2D platformer, and a very fun game to play, and it always seemed to me like it was one of the more prominent entries in the series, considering it is so unique from 2 and Hoodlum Havoc, even though it weirdly fuses them both in one. So it's kinda surprising how it was not mentioned in this video. Besides that, though, as said, great and informative video. As a Rayman fan, you have my thanks for outlining the story of the limbless wonder! :D
Fun fact: there is an advanced port of Rayman 2 made for PS2 called Rayman Revolution. I had no freaking idea that there were so many references to Rayman outside of the main lineup of games! Holy crap!
Glad to see the Rayman series getting more attention as of recently. 😊 Shame you greatly disliked Rayman 1 since that's my favorite installment in the entire franchise.
You forgot to mention he's also a character in Brawlhalla along with Globox and Barbara. Also I think you should've focus a little on the different versions of Rayman 2, Revolution in particular
Fun fact: raving rabbids 2 had a pc version exclusive to Poland and apparently Russia as well. I actually had the 4 discs as a kid cuz they sold the game with random mini games included on seperate discs and you had to buy em all for the full thing. It was cool tho cuz you also got a rabbid figurine with each disc. Oh the distribution method was game mags which was a very popular way of distributing games in Poland at the time
To add to your comment: some time after the release of the 4 parts for RRR2, there was a single disc release in a hardcover booklet, containing the same 16 mini games. The booklet release claimed to be the 'full version' of the game. I have a copy of that one in PL. Also, Rabbids Go Home got the '4 disc in a magazine with collectible Rabbid figurines release' treatment in Poland (and I think Russia, too?) as well. I don't know if that also had a single disc release later on, though.
My first experience with rayman was Rayman Arena when I was a kid, absolutely loved that game when I was a kid, then I got origins for my wii around 2012 and fell in love with the series again, it sucks how much Ubisoft shits on him.
I really hope that the studio that made the Mario+Rabbids games make another Rayman game. If anyone can do it, it's them. Great video, wonderful trip down memory lane :D

Fun Fact: the "Gloo Gloo" track that plays from 38:22 onwards is actually a cover of the 5,6,7,8's hit song "Woo Hoo" which was made famous by Quentin Tarrantino, who in turn heard it while shopping for clothes and went on to put it in the movie that he was currently producing. So when Uma Thurman in Kill Bill walks into a club to confront and later kill the Crazy 99 this very track plays. If you want to look up the scene you will find out that they actually had the original bandmembers perform their song as the club was ment to host a live concert at the time of Uma showing up.

Fun fact Rayman 2 was originally going to be another 2d platformer 2.5d actually, but after the developers saw Crash Bandicoot they decided to scrap that game and start over and make it 3D instead. Also on the PS1 version of Rayman 2 you can play one level of that original 2d Rayman 2
Gamer: "How could a beloved video game icon like you quit before your anniversary?!" Rayman: "You think I quit?" * turns on light to reveal a news article * Gamer: "Right! Michel Ancel's retirement." Rayman: "THEY quit on me! After Origins and Legends were praised, I went back expecting a grand anniversary celebration. You know what Ubisoft said to me? 'You're history!'. Moved right on to the next Tom Clancy game in line."
Trivia: The reason why everyone else got limbs in Origins is because Rayman was supposed to be the only one of his kind from now on. However, that got thrown out of the window quick when they introduced other Rays in Legends and Adventures. On a bright side, that could've been a good opportunity to bring back Tarayzan who was originaly going to be playable in Origins as Rayman's cousin, but they didn't. They lowkey replaced him with some knock off of him from Adventures. Either Rayman donated his sperms before the slumber or the mages liked him so much they decided to make their own.
Rayman has been one of my favorite mascots since I was little, and the fact that you released this video on my birthday makes me somehow feel more connected to the character in an inexplicable way
I played Rayman 2 as a kid but it was so long ago I don't remember if I beat it or not, but I do remember no other game giving me the insane sense of intrigue and truly otherworldly feeling that it did until I played the Half-Life series.
BTW have you watched "Captain laserhawk"?! They include rayman as a cameo appearance and I can't believe what have they done to rayman, I really can't say it right now, you should check it for yourself
Rayman 3 was a masterpiece of a videogame for me. Level, Sound, Gameplay Design. AND THE SECRETS I miss games which have secrets like Rayman 3 (yes it was my first rayman) Rayman 2 is a masterpiece too, but being introduced to rayman 3 at first and discovering it much later I didn't like it as much, but it has a incredible atmosphere, very good music as well, and a lot of charm
Rayman Arena was a lot of fun with plenty of great music. The PlayStation version launched first and had the infinitely better battle mode, while GameCube and Xbox versions had better presentation and such but the battle mode changed so much, being scored based on number of hits and only having two modes in it.
My first rayman game was rayman 2 on the ps1 which is like the worst fuckin version but I loved it so much, and as far as the mainline games went after that they just never missed, not even once. This franchise is special to me in a very specific way, and I've always loved the underlying concept of the games existing in this sort of dream world, it pairs really really well with how out there a lot of the visuals are in these games. The video itself was pretty cool but your audio mixing was a bit all over the place, sometimes I had to fiddle with the volume to make you out over the music; other than that, we love to see a fellow rayman girl winning, I'll be anticipating your next video
For a time there people loved to dunk on the PS1 version because of the '''''terrible voice acting'''' the shorter length and level cutting. Yes it's a lot more downscaled compared to the other ports, but I wouldn't call it bad at all. I always loved the dopey voice acting, the core gameplay is still very much intact and in Retrospect, with it's shorter length it's the one I come back to the most. Playing the game either on my ps1 hooked up to my CRT or on Duckstation with all the extra settings cranked up to 11 behind my PC with my HD display give 2 hugely contrasting experiences which both are equally fun to go through. (Rayman's lower poly model in this is peak btw)
@@ewoutverheij4745 I honestly agree with you, the ps1 version has a ton of charm for me and I love the voice acting, I guess for obvious reasons. I don't think it's bad but I think it's at least probably the worst because of the cut content, but hey I haven't played all of them, so maybe there's a worse one out there that I don't know about
@@RRM693 playing the ps1 version is probably just fine aside from the missing levels and a couple minor features that are just not there. Out of the original releases the N64 is probably the better one? I know the dreamcast had updated graphics but I like the old low-poly look so if you're going for that it's probably the n64 or one of the many ports that use that version
One interesting note about Rayman jungle run and Fiesta run. They are still available but only on the Ubisoft launcher, both are 2.99 but you can play them on PC
i find it insane a video like this has such little views - new sub instantly and is supporting my already heightened interest in this series . ive learned alot ! thanks >:D
amazing video, learned some intersting things i ahvent known about. if you want to give rayman 1 another chance play Rayman Redemption instead btw, it's a very good fangame that lets you play with infinite lives, fixes a lot of terrible level design, and even adds some levels. and theres also Rayman Redesigner, a level editor for Redemption that has a small online community with public levels :3
DUDE YOU RE-WOKE A MEMORY I DIDNT EVEN KNOW I HAD. Rayman M is a game my grandma had for some reason and we didnt have games at home. So i always went to my grandma to play rayman M without knowing the franchise or anything about it. Thats aweaome
Younger viewers amongst us might not believe this but Rayman was incredibly popular in the nineties, so much so that there was a Saturday morning cartoon series, a full set of plushes, badges, stickers, 'I love Rayman/ I hate Rayman' towels and there was even a movie adaptation of the series starring Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman
When you're doing your narration for your scripting you should be recording audio through some form of noise suppression. I recommend to using OBS and either using their inbuilt version or downloading crisp noise suppressorl. this will make it so that the clicks that you are using to move to the next part of the scripts aren't Audible
You could've gotten your hands on Rayman Designer, it's included in Rayman Forever (along with the original game and Rayman by his Fans), which Ubisoft still sells on their storefront and is also on GOG. there is also a fanmade recreation of Rayman 1 and Rayman Designer called Rayman Redemption and Rayman ReDesigner respectively made by Ryemanni on GameJolt, which is so much better then the original (both fixing major issues with the games and even adding completely new content to the original)
Rayman Legend's Murphy segments were much more interesting on Wii U as you controlled Murphy with the Gamepad while leading either a really braindead rayman or the other players throughout the level. The Music stages also had the option to be played as Murphy which is why those eye signs exist in say Castle Rock, as they're used to make AI Rayman jump or break the bone walls there.
That Atari 50 compilation has Atari Jaguar games. It would be awesome if Ubisoft would let Atari port the Jaguar version of Rayman, especially since it is the definitive version of the first game.
I feel like by putting games in a tier list, that you haven't actually played or played for only a short amount of time many years ago, you're going to anger a lot of people.
I'm glad Redemption got a shoutout. It's a super fun game that I thoroughly enjoyed playing. I never did 100% it because I couldn't be bothered with the boss rushes, but otherwise did and got everything. It is well worth looking into to relive that old nostalgia.
Video editing feedback: listening to your commentary around 36:00 mark got absolutely painful due to the background music being too loud. Consider paying more attention to these sound levels in the future 😅
You should make a video on the forgotten isle of the PS2. The Legend of Kay. It’s too under appreciated with fun game design and amazing world building and story
Great summary video! I actually didn't know that there were so many spinoffs in the Rayman franchise. For me Rayman 2 and 3 were the pinnacle of Rayman games. It's unfortunate the developers never came around making a real 3D platformer Rayman 4. Rayman Origins and Legends both were good as well, but I always found them kinda exhausting to play. I think the artstyle was a little too much eyecandy for my taste. But then .... the franchise just ended back then - Legends came out 10 years ago and it's baffling how there was no mainline Rayman game since then. So much lost potential...
Love the Killer7 soundtrack near the end. It is my favorite game as well (Rayman 2 is also in my top 10, heh). I'm looking forward to see your video about it.
You missed Rayman 1 and 2 on the gameboy color. They are different from the vonsole in some ways but so much fun. Also Rayman 1 on D tier is a little harsh. I know the game is freakin hard because i completed it 100% on my Ps1. Took me a week to do so but the more i practiced the more i got better at the game. Seems you missing some interesting fact about Rayman 2. You can actually get the 1000th lum from the death level!
There is one part about The Mario + Rabbids DLC starring Rayman that deserves a bigger mention: the last song by the DLC's villain before the final fight essentially calls Rayman a loser who was never cool, and deserved to be sidelined and forgotten when the Rabbids came along. It sounds like a commentary on Rayman's treatment when the Rabbids proved popular with young audiences.
my freind in 3rd grade loved this game. me and him were so close. then the pandemic hit, and he vanished, Never saw him again. I am now in 8th grade, and i still miss him. he went missing without a trace, anything. this game really makes me saf bc i miss him.....
Dude I'd like to recommend you to play "Dark Magician's Reign of Terror" and "The Spooky Raymansion" quadrilogy. These games are made by Ryemanni (creator of Redemption and Redesigner).
I’m really surprised there hasn’t been a Rayman Collection or remasters of the rayman games released for modern consoles because now is the perfect time to have those
A Rayman 1,2 and 3 collection would be very nice yeah specially since it would give people the chance to play 3 which I feel many didn't have a chance back in the day. The problem is of course that u Ubisoft has already been criticized for re releasing Rayman 2 a billion times so doing it again would probably look kinda bad. On that same note Rayman 2 has like 10 different versions, which one would even go in this collection? No idea every re release has had good and bad things so it's hard to say

I don't understand why the first Rayman was so easy in the 90s as a kid, and impossible to play now.
BTW have you watched "Captain laserhawk"?! They include rayman as a cameo appearance and I can't believe what have they done to rayman, I really can't say it right now, you should check it for yourself
Ah time to succumb to Rabids, minions logic before Despicable me…..
Here we go.
I think that Rayman was the first video game character to actually go through Puberty.
Lol?
Sonic
32:48 OMFG I REMEMBER I USED TO WATCH ANIMEBROMII WTFFFF
Rayman M?... More like RAYMAN RUSH, bro that shit SLAPPED on the PS1 that's my whole childhood rage contained in one disc.
Hey what about Sly Cooper? the neglect of that series ironically is criminal
Rayman 3 was a masterpiece of a videogame for me. Level, Sound, Gameplay Design. AND THE SECRETS I miss games which have secrets like Rayman 3 (yes it was my first rayman)
Rayman 2 is a masterpiece too, but being introduced to rayman 3 at first and discovering it much later I didn't like it as much, but it has a incredible atmosphere, very good music as well, and a lot of charm
Rayman Arena was a lot of fun with plenty of great music. The PlayStation version launched first and had the infinitely better battle mode, while GameCube and Xbox versions had better presentation and such but the battle mode changed so much, being scored based on number of hits and only having two modes in it.
RAYMAN REDEMPTION IS A BANGER! AWESOME VIDEO DUDE! HOPE FOR RAYMAN 4!
Those fairies were thick asf
Rest in Piece Rayman Rush, no mention of it at all :sadge: great video though! Was fun to learn more about Rayman!
Thank you for your effort on making this long interesting video!😮😊
Captain Laserhawk rayman is the perfect depiction of what rayman would currently be like
My first rayman game was rayman 2 on the ps1 which is like the worst fuckin version but I loved it so much, and as far as the mainline games went after that they just never missed, not even once.
I haven’t played the ps1 version but the controls for rayman revolution for ps2 are so much worse than the n64 version
What's the best version to play? I played on ps1 and didn't have many issues other than the annoying vibrating graphics and maybe voice acting
I'm not a rayman, I'm a ray, man
One interesting note about Rayman jungle run and Fiesta run. They are still available but only on the Ubisoft launcher, both are 2.99 but you can play them on PC
Rayman 3 ended on a cliffhanger!? I thought it was a flashback on how André first showed up
I think so, too
Hope this video blows up cuz you deserve more attention dude good video man and really liked the editing and pace of the video 👍🏼
i find it insane a video like this has such little views - new sub instantly and is supporting my already heightened interest in this series . ive learned alot ! thanks >:D
You missed the Rayman 2 remake, Rayman Revolution
As a fellow Rayman 2 fanatic, I can confidently say I 100% agree with every one of your takes even though I'm only 35 seconds in the video.
This is such a great video, but can someone please tell me where the clip at 4:12 comes from?
thats just me talking
The image is from unicouniuni3 on twitter
I believe rayman is still the best video game character to ever exist lol
amazing video, learned some intersting things i ahvent known about. if you want to give rayman 1 another chance play Rayman Redemption instead btw, it's a very good fangame that lets you play with infinite lives, fixes a lot of terrible level design, and even adds some levels. and theres also Rayman Redesigner, a level editor for Redemption that has a small online community with public levels :3
I have it’s so awesome
the audio cuts out at 41:21
Glad you mentioned Killer7, since I noticed all the music you used from that game throughout.
0:16 I see that GOATed crying baby game in your library 👀
The Tragic Downfall Of TH-cam's Best Channel
PREACH!!
7:32 I remember this one, it was my first and only Rayman game.
Rayman 2 soundtrack slaps so hard. It was nice to hear someone else's take on a game I love just as much as you.
A essay on one of my FAV series ever? Hell yes
God Rayman Mini looks so neat visually and thematically, I wish they made a regular console or Steam version with the Legends controls
That Atari 50 compilation has Atari Jaguar games. It would be awesome if Ubisoft would let Atari port the Jaguar version of Rayman, especially since it is the definitive version of the first game.
This is just a tier list video wow
I hear that more fan projects are going to make an update December 16. Good timing, I think
NGL, I'd love to see you make a video on Animebromii sometime
The same about 38:50 - I guess the background music with lyrics is what makes this issue much more prominent to my ears
I didn't have a problem with it
You should make a video on the forgotten isle of the PS2. The Legend of Kay. It’s too under appreciated with fun game design and amazing world building and story
Love the video but please work on Audio leveling, many of the segments the music is muffled what you're saying :(
Nice video dude
The shoe scene in Rayman 2 is actually the last time you will see Clark.
Dude
I'd like to recommend you to play "Dark Magician's Reign of Terror" and "The Spooky Raymansion" quadrilogy.
@@BiggBossChanelfr
I love rayman..,.,, so sad ubisoft literally beat him to death, revived him just to do it again and then replaced him with a skinwalker
