The expression "the snake is going to smoke" was already a popular saying at the time, meaning something difficult to achieve and, if it did happen, serious problems could arise. Some people started using it during the start of World War II, as a provocation from the more pessimistic members of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force, who said that "it was easier for a snake to smoke than for Brazil to enter the war". When around 25,000 soldiers were sent to fight in Italy, the expression became the symbol of the Brazilian Army;
The meaning of the smoking snake is due to Brazil going through internal conflict and not wanting to participate in World War II. However, under pressure from the Allies and after the Axis powers bombed Brazilian ships transporting war supplies, Brazil announced that it would join the war. The United States then assisted in training the troops and providing equipment, but Brazil trained for over a year without the U.S. requesting specific help. Hence, the phrase emerged in Brazil: "It’s easier for a snake to smoke than for Brazil to go to war," meaning "similar to when pigs fly." When Brazil eventually entered the war, it fought on the left flank of the United States, protecting that flank and advancing until it captured Monte Castelo.
In the beggining of WW2 both sides wanted to Brazil to take part, but brazilian president stated that a snake would pipe a cigar before Brazil goes to war. Then Germany sunk some vessels in brazilian coast and the snake started smoking. If a brazilian tells you " a cobra vai fumar" (the snake will smoke) its a final warning to dont start something you cant stop later. We dont want a war but we never lost any in wich we entered. Paraguay invaded Brazil once, their country almost disapeared.
The weapon that fired the rockets at the end was manufactured in Brazil called Astros, with it we could attack all the main cities in the United States without leaving our territory. As long as this weapon is active, not a single troop in the world would be able to enter our country by land
