Generally speaking kings are bad adventure characters. You can send princes or princesses in a story to an adventure. But a king should not be on a adventure. Ezran in season 4 should be dealing with kingly duties. In season 4 ezran seems to be a crazy king. The baker is now the ministry of crust and jelly. Ezran shouldnt have travelled to the earth dragon. I mean in the first 3 seasons they made a huge deal that the princes are absent.
The baker is the most powerful user of cake magic in Catholis, is a veteran of many battles and is unquestionably loyal to his king. He deserves that place.
To me it seems like a lot of the characters got sabotaged and dumbed down to make Aaravos seem like a bigger threat. Literally everyone in this season felt off.
I think Ezra should’ve stayed behind in S4, with an arc showing he needs help governing but doesn’t want it. However it isn’t due to arrogance, but overprotectiveness: he always wants everyone to be ok, so he tries to rule alone si no one else becomes a target. We’d be able to see the rulers of the other kingdoms and flesh them out, some would try to manipulate him to war again and others wanting peace like him. His seasonal arc would end with him admitting the trauma he has to the Dragon prince and some of his confidants, which in turn helps him see that he doesn’t need to be constantly trying to protect everyone, especially from himself.
There's also the story of the other prince the story is named after, Zym. Zym was ruined as a character. He went from Appa to Momo. In season 1, he was an egg and couldn't really have any character. Season 2, he needed to learn how to fly and be a proper dragon. He was also clearly a sort of wholesome center of the group that kept everyone going. Season 3, getting ready to meet his mother and being the cause of a war was getting to him. Season 4 should be on a sort of "Sins of the Father" arc, right? NO! They tried, but they failed to hell and back! He goes from an interesting animal character with development, to a spoiled Scooby-Doo.
Yeah, the "everything Avizandum did was to protect Xadia"... I wish it was precise that Ezran only said this to defend Zym, to shield him, to spare him the horrible arc "sins of the father" Ezran himself had to endure. But no, we are supposed to think Ezran is saying this seriously and is right...
I agree totally. Ezran is a tired pastiche of himself from s 1-3. This is how you do time skips wrong. He is in a three year older body, but has not aged, developed or changed in any other way. And he remains curiously static, mabye because they feel that he has already completed his arc and is in a pretty good place. But then he leaves to go on an irresponsible adventure, so in some ways it feels like a reset. To be honest, his writing feels like if someone told that chat-bot to write a couple of typical Ezran-scenes based on what he did in previous scenes. And I also agree that the sun elf conflict would have needed some serious rewriting. Keeping Ezran around would have been one way change it for the better, but not enough in itself. But that whole mess actually deserves a video on its own, so I'll leave it at that.

I agree with your take, I think you hit the nail on the head. Ezran should have stayed behind and later joined the sunfire elves conflict, while Callum and Rayla worked on their relationship. It's a shame this season wasn't as good as the other three, hopefully the next one will be better!
I agree I feel like he should have grown and matured a bit and do his king things. Plus is he stayed in the kingdom Rayla and Callum can work things out like in season 3 when Ezrna wasn’t their

He had the whole being able to talk to animals thing and they make you think they're gonna explore that and how he feels different from others but nope, it's just a thing he can do. Or explore his struggle having to govern as king at such a young age but nope. He has some trouble in season 3 but by season 4 he's giving his father a run for his money with all the inspirational speeches. To me, he's always been a questionable character. And that's not to mention how he's advertised as one of the main characters, but has to constantly be given excuses as to why he can follow the others on the main quest.

So just burning them all with no hesitation or remorse doesn't make any sense. Someone in the team, Ezran most of all, should object to this, and vehemently. To me, the way the show spent three seasons advocating against violence only to resolve all its conflicts by massacring people, and dehumanized these people to absolve the heroes from the very moral burden that was the point of the show, and the way the show presented that as a triumph, is outrageous. If season III has to end on a final battle to end the war, frame it in a tragic way. Zuko's victory over Azula was by no means celebratory and glorious.
Based on Aaravos' dressing down, I think Ezran's arc throughout these seasons is meant to be specifically about his naivete and how in over his head he is. If that's the case, then it'd make sense for them to play that aspect of his character up in the set-up.
I don't really think Ezran was badly written this season. Just that he didn't have much to do since most of his problems and arcs already happened in the first 3 seasons. But now that you mention it, him being a part of the Sunfire elf plot would have made it so much better and more enjoyable! And would have given Ezran something to actually do this season, instead of just following Callum and Rayla to bring peace to the lands of Xadia AGAIN!

It’s weird how Opeli wanted to find Ezran and Callum so Ezran could take the throne last season but this season practically edges him to go off on an adventure. After everything they went through with Viren usurping the throne you’d think she would want Ezran there ruling Katolis not going on an adventure.
If you had to deal with Ezran and his way of ruling the kingdom, you might well end up doing the same. For me, Opeli is the only person who by some miracle keeps the country up and running.

In the last season, Ezran was well-written and had good character development. Ezran is less mature at 11 than he was at 9. Also at 3:31 Ezran didn't have Viren arrested. It was Opeli. Viren murdered the other Kings & Queens before he became king.
I don't know mate. There wasn't any reason for him staying in Katolis. At least non that we were shown. In earlier seasons he was trying to prevent a war. But now, the kindom is at peace and Aaravos is posing a thread to everyone. So trying to solve that is the best way to serve his people. Also I think it is pretty bold of him to try to built bridges between Katolis and Xadia. And his speech at Zubea's visit holds a lot of wisdom and captures the message that is at the heart of this whole show: the hard work of choosing peace and breaking the cycle of violence. That is some powerful stuff for a kids show. And why can't he still also be lighthearted and playful? He is only 13 by now. Why is a burdened and somber character better than a cheerful one? What I don't like is his idea to solve the Aaravos-prison-puzzle and everyone, even wise old Zubea, to go along with it without ever questioning how that could play exactly into Aaravos' hands. And also the human world in TDP is never really explored and therefor feels very boring. So everyone just wants to go to Xadia because it's much more fun.
I love how Ezran was when he was a kid and now he's grown up. He had to grow up a little bit in order to be a good king. And Ezran is a way better king then his father was. Because Ezran said that he doesn't want to be a part of a war that started years before he was even born. So instead of causing more problems he was doing the right thing and was trying to make peace with Dragons even though his father said they was dangerous. And now that Ezran didn't listen to anyone else when they all told him that dragons was a bad idea. Ezran can now tell people that he can call The Dragon Queen his friend and she will be there to help him in battle if he needs her help. (🤓)
Ezran may be the first born of king Harrow, but he’s a second board of Queen Sarai. I think Callum should be king, because he’s the first born of Queen Sarai.
The child set to inherit the throne has to be from a sitting royal and since Callum was born from Sarai’s previous, non royal marriage (I’m assuming she was married before? Honestly stopped watching sometime in season 2 or so) that only makes him the step-son of Harrow, thus not in line for the throne. That’s the way most basic monarchs are when it comes to lines of succession.
@@jendoe9436 Harrow wanted Sarai to help him deliver a baby, but wanted to leave Callum out of it, so he kind of stole her from him. That’s the reason why I didn’t like him. Sorry, but Callum is the firstborn of Sarai, not Ezran. And of course, Ezran didn’t want to be king. So I would rather vote Callum to be King.
He doesn't have "royal blood" The heir to the throne it's the first born of the current/previous King. Callum's father's son is Ezran, not Callum, that's why he can't be a king, and that's why Soren used to joke with him about "half-prince" The one ruling and coming from royal family was Harrow, Sarai just married him and became queen because of that, and she had already had a kid. Her son can't be next in line because he's not the son of the king, that's Ezran Callum it's not blood-related to the king
King Ezran sounds like a girl to me.. A boy wouldn't act like that. A boy that age would have learned to sword fight atleast.. woops. The voice actor is a girl..
“Butchered Ezran’s character.” Over dramatic because he really only stagnated a season of the show. Nothing about Ezran here is different than in season 1-3. So butchered is not only clickbait, it’s wildly inaccurate. Also your points in this video 100% absolutely suck. The nice sweet Prince having a Minister of Peasants? Like you are projecting a jaded character onto Ezran because you can’t accept the fact Ezran won’t be that jaded character.
>a season After a 2 year timeskip that brings no character growth. This is illogical. >your points suck So adress them. >peasants You must mean agriculture. There is no slavery in Catholis, only monster sacrifice. Good try neverthless.
@@malakimphoros2164 I don’t need to, y’all are the ones saying his character has “been butchered.” All his traumatic events happened before our eyes in seasons 1-3, what do you think was gonna change about him after those changes? Nothing! Because the kingdom has been at peace. He may be a king but as Opeli said in season 3 he’s “a kid who should focus on becoming his own/growing up.” That still means getting his childhood, he’s only 11. @@ManiyaVinas I didn’t even like his father from before.
He doesn't have "royal blood"
The heir to the throne it's the first born of the current/previous King. Callum's father's son is Ezran, not Callum, that's why he can't be a king, and that's why Soren used to joke with him about "half-prince"
The one ruling and coming from royal family was Harrow, Sarai just married him and became queen because of that, and she had already had a kid. Her son can't be next in line because he's not the son of the king, that's Ezran
Callum it's not blood-related to the king
Most of the returning characters stagnated.
Season 4 sucks🫤
I barely notice or cared about Ezran thought the whole show. Also the show doesn't want to do politicks.
All and all ezran my be better of being a glimmer remake
Am I actually first!?
I swear this is the fourth or fifth video going on about how bad season 4 of The Dragon Prince is. At this point you’re just flogging a dead horse.
King Ezran sounds like a girl to me.. A boy wouldn't act like that. A boy that age would have learned to sword fight atleast.. woops. The voice actor is a girl..
i dont really like ezran and i really hope we dont have to waith to long for season 5
Like you are projecting a jaded character onto Ezran because you can’t accept the fact Ezran won’t be that jaded character.
>a season
After a 2 year timeskip that brings no character growth. This is illogical.
>your points suck
So adress them.
>peasants
You must mean agriculture. There is no slavery in Catholis, only monster sacrifice.
Good try neverthless.
@@malakimphoros2164 He’s still objectively wrong.
@@vibezonegaming Prove it with arguments to validate your opinion.
His vision for Ezran is still delusional and objectively wrong.
