the worst thing in the season is that he don`t talk with his father after they meet again or that the producers cut it out, I just hope we see that conversation in the next season
so he felt like Soren? Come on, he's always been kinda dumb and used for comedy. there was absolutely missed potential here later in the season, but he's always been goofy
I remember that some people have speculated that soren is gonna die in s4. Hisarc was finished in the first 3 seasons. In season 4 he had some good moments involving claudia. But not a single scene with Viren. If the writers dont manage to give him a good arc then I think that these people have a point. In the first 3 seasons soren was a well written character. A comedic relief on the outside, but more on the inside. In s1e3 claudia sent shadow wolves after the princes. While soren deflects an arrow for callum. At the end of s3 soren was a fan favourite character. In s4 he was just one comedic relief around other comedic relief characters. That he suddenly likes dragons feels a bit forced. I mean if you hate dragons and get wounded by a dragon you tend to not like dragons more. It feels like the writers want give him a chemistry with dragons to make him still useful in later seasons.
I hate how flanderized the characters felt in s4, I hope it gets reversed in s5. But keep his dragon pal, that was unexpected but cool. I feel it demonstrates not only learning from his mistakes but also that he hangs out with King Ezra more
Also hope they fix the comedy. It was the kinda comedy u expect to see in marvel movies. Those kids were doing the floss in the first episode of the season.
@@bearerofbadnews1375 oh god that was cringe. I think that was forced by the higher-ups, since even the writers seem to comment on how stupid that dance was with the priest character(sorry, don’t remember the name)
Worth mentioning that the "Soren feels loyal to Viren because Viren saved him" is relegated to the novels. Claudia IMPLIES that Soren owed Viren his life, but the show *cuts away* after that bomb drop, then ignores it. This information completely re-contextualizes Soren's acceptance of his paralysis (maybe it was familiar), his pride in his fitness, his drive to please his dad, laughing at Callum's clumsiness, and Viren's motives for dark magic. But the writers AVOIDED introducing it in season four--when Soren and the magefam needed that connection the most.
@AccumulatedKnowledge I think he got past that insecurity, since his desire for recognition was for Dad’s approval. Now that he’s separated from his dad, he’d only want to be fit on HIS terms. Not sure Callum can physically fight, so I doubt he’s on Ibis’s level. But that would be neat to see.
@AccumulatedKnowledge Callum grabbed him, but Soren wasn’t trying to stop him. We later saw with the mirror that Callum couldn’t lift it, but Soren could easily. Soren’s still stronger.
@AccumulatedKnowledge maybe Callum was willing to fight over Ezran, but I doubt that’s a fair barometer for how bloodthirsty he is against other enemies.
It was such a strong moment, such a tense cliffhanger, when he was realising his dad was still alive, the horror in his face. And then ... nothing. I was so confused. Like how are writers allowed to skip over something like that???
I know right?!! Although it was added as a side-story on their website, it was a huge waste to not put that on screen. I was so disappointed when I first binged this Season. (Yes late reply I know)
@@FuzzyTheAnimatorbetter late than nothing. Good to know there is a side story! But still. How is that not the biggest emotional moment of the whole season?????
i feel season 4 was ok we did what we knew we could and now we need more i think thats why it took 3 years to get another season cause they were getting their overall story and writing the season 4 script they probably got rushed and was forced to make it like a season 1 again building to the story that they wanted from the very beginning.
1:36 I read about that part I felt that Lissa (Viren's ex-wife) leaving them because of that is narrow-minded on her part. She doesn't have to like Dark Magic but her son is alive because of it. Your beliefs don't always matter more than living, breathing people. Plus, in real life, sometimes exceptions should be made because there are more gray areas to life and morality than we realize, life isn't all "black" and "white". What good parent would want their kids to die?
The whole "dark magic bad, with no nuance" thing was always this show's biggest flaw. And they seem to have accepted their own narrow minded narrative, so I doubt they'll explore the topic in more depth.
@@skytiger215Maybe Aaravos will call them out on that when he gets freed from his prison I mean Viren stopped a famine which saved 100,000 people from starving to death (which is a painful way to go out) and Claudia literally made coffee and fluffy pancakes. Both with Dark magic. Those aren't bad things Sometimes, something is only a problem if one chooses to see it as a problem. And I hope that's what the others will learn
@@DragonGoddess18 I think it would be too late at that point. The hypocrisy has been too noticeable for too long and it would make the heroes look dumb for needing it pointed out to them. It also doesn't help that Callum made it look so easy for humans to use magic. The creators/writers deliberately took the nuance out of the dark magic debate and I don't know if there's time to change that.
@@skytiger215 yeah, agreed. They wrote “we wanted dark Magic to feel corrupted and fundamentally wrong”-doesn’t sound like that “wrong” is up for debate.
He definitely seems like he's now just there for comic relief, which disappointed me, but part of me feels like he's overdoing the comedy aspect because he's trying to cover up the fact that he's still hurt from his mom leaving years ago, him "Killing" Viren, and him not sure if he's actually dead, and wondering if Claudia is okay. Probably instead of facing these thoughts, he covers it up with a lot of lame humor. Or maybe it's just me, idk, but if that were the case, we should've seen some evidence of that in Season 4.
I think they had to decrease his importance so that he can progress again. A bit redundant but I think that what usually happens characters grow up but can't be ideal ( as noone is perfect) and if they don't have anything else in mind to add for progression they diminish the signigicance of previous seasons/episodes. ( That's my opinion). Can't really judge them cuz sometimes progression over a season is to good to add something new ( Like with Daniel Spellbound where S2 was a sort of repetition of S1 lessons to learn which he kinda already did)
I like Soren although multiple bad things happened from season 4-6 -Callum and Rayla were separated without any flashback episode backing it up and it took another 3 seasons for them to get back together I mean that’s too long -the one elf was killed by a random elf we just got introduced to (kinda hard to memorize all the names in this show) -then for some reason season 6 Claudia can’t put 2 and 2 together I mean why is she so stupid now she says she needed her dad to tell her which path to take when he specifically said before he left that he was not proud of her following in his footsteps
Soren's always been a bit too dumb and goofy for my tastes but still decent. So it was not exactly surprising to see him used that way. But I do agree that in the latter half, when they do come together, there was a lot of missed potential there. There was a little bit of it between him and Claudia, but not nearly enough and he didn't get to interact with Viren at all.
it is such a waste of potential that scene, soren and viren should have talked with each other, soren explaining that he loves his dad, but that doesn't mean he has to follow him wherever he goes, reaching viren, who isn't really sure if he wants to continue this path or rather wants to spend the rest of his days with his kids, but soren gets shut down by claudia. Now that viren has decided to go on with aravos plan, its to late for any of that.
looking back at this season it feel rushed into production and there where way to many story thing going on at same time but i am guessing the covid had something to do with it only thing i found good about this season was animation its look great

Maybe this is the wrong word for it, but that flossing bit felt tacky to me
