    Such a magical, memorable season it was. I had just started university that Fall, was living in a dorm and I decided that I needed to be disciplined, concentrate on my studies, and not watch football. Well, after the Niners demolished the Cowboys 45-14 I said to myself, "To hell with that idea!". I was not going to miss out on what was shaping up to be a great season. So I took a quick trip home (about 40 miles) to grab a small-screen tv I had (yes, it WAS small), and every Sunday after that I watched the 49ers march through the league to a 13-3 record. Others in my hall also wanted to see the game, see we all used to crowd around that one tiny tv. It was fantastic!

      Great memories! I bet you missed the Brown's game though. Remember that one? :)

    It doesn't get any better than Vin Scully calling a game featuring Joe Montana.

    My buddies and I were on eggshells this whole game. It was a nail-biter. How about Montana’s grab of the high snap on the winning field goal? Wow!

      That's actually pretty damn cool that you can finally see these games after all these years. Different times.

    Truly historic 49er game, where we "sweep the sheep" for the first time in over 10 years, having never won in Anaheim. This '81 season had several historic games. The crushing of the Cowboys, after they did it to us the year before and always beat us, was when we first believed we could go all the way. And then the Steelers was the big one - the changing of the guard of the '70's to '80's dynasties.

      First time sweeping the Rams in 16 years. Last done in 1965!

      @@samson9535 And it kept happening into the mid-90s, so the Rams got exiled to St. Louis, because LA got sick of getting beat by SF!

    This was the year that started the Dynasty and Domination of the 49ers in the NFL. It also started the consistent beating the Rams took at the hands of the 49ers for the next fifteen years. It's why LA exiled the Rams to St. Louis, because LA is a city of front runners. Had the Rams stayed in Anaheim/LA, the yearly losses of the Rams to the 49ers would have been too much for those front runners. They'd have started to wear bags over their heads like Saints fans, or just said F it, lets go to see UCLA or USC play instead.

    22:10 Ronnie Lott pick 6!
    Paul Hofer would play only 2 more games after this one.
    25 year old Joe “Cool” Montana running the 2 minute drill.
    Vince Scully and Hank Stram were the 1981 49ers good luck charm. They called the win over the 1981 Steelers and would later call the NFC Championship game and “The Catch”

    First time in years and years the 49ers swept the Rams. It was a HUGE deal

      Even having some weak teams in the early to mid-60s, the 49ers had a knack of beating the Rams, who were pretty awful then. I saw just about all those 49er games played in LA on the TV, as then home games were blacked out. I finally got to a 49er-Ram game at Kezar Stadium in 1969. Rams were lucky to come away with a win, and John Brodie drove them down the field in the last few minutes and almost pulled it off. Rookie Ted Kwalick dropped a winning TD pass with ten seconds left.

    This was the first Niner victory over the Rams at Anaheim Stadium. SF was 13-2 against the Rams there, losing only in ‘80 & ‘86.

    • @johnre5342
      @johnre5342 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And I think 86 was when Montana was out with back surgery.

      Yes, and it was only the second season the LA Rams played in Anaheim, having played their last season, until 2016, at the Coliseum in LA in 1979. They played in Anaheim until 1994, then the move to St. Louis. LA area didn't want them anymore, as losers aren't tolerated in that City of Front Runners and a baseball team owned by a multi-national corporation worth $300 billion, Guggenheim Trust Mercenaries, AKA LA Dodgers.

    3 great QB's! Great choice. These early 49ers dynasty games illustrate the intracies of the early West Coast offense. Walsh was playing on a 3d chessboard.

    after this game the Rams still had an all time winning record of 41-21-2 against SF....

      At the present time, the 49ers have the advantage. The 49ers have won 71 (including one playoff game, the 1990 30-3 rout on the road to the 49ers second straight Super Bowl victory) to the Rams 67 wins (there have been three ties).

    • @ldfreitas9437
      @ldfreitas9437 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was then, this is now, Ram front runner fan! 49ers went into the league from the AAFC in 1950, and from that time until 1970, things were fairly even steven between the teams: 17wins by 49ers to 23 by Rams with 3 ties. 49ers now lead 75-68-3, so STFU! Just a reminder that the 49ers DOMINATED the Rams from 1981 through 1994, clown!

    I remember this game eliminated the Rams from playoff contention. The 49ers won the division the next week at home against the N.Y.Giants. Is it me or did people like seeing Ray Malavasi lose standing looking stupid on the sidelines???

    Rams should have won this game. Had they been better coached they wouldn’t have had so many penalties and otherwise sloppy play. Note how cool Walsh is and how out of control Malavasi appears. The Rams passed on Walsh before The 49ers hired him.

      From an Angeleno born but raised in S.F. fan:
      Glad that the Rams finally won a Lombardi trophy.
      During the Dynasty I never hated the Rams, because the Forty Niners could usually beat them.
      And even though they could beat the ny giants, redskins and cowboys too... I absolutely hated all three of those cheating teams along with the saints and falcons, just not as much.
