Ultimate Tanares is Arena and Tanares adventures in one package. They also updated the journals and story book instead of two large books, it’s broken down into 4 books that are in order of weeks.

Arena the contest was the original PvP game, that had a stretch goal to add a campaign book. The campaign book was so well recieved it inspired them to create Tanaras adventures, with is PvE, or co-op adventure if you will, solo rules also. So you can just use Tanaras if you want as its a stand alone product. However for purists Arena will give you the pre-story to the campaign, as well as a roster of heroes that you can use too in Tanaras. Boxes that have a tag line, e.g. dragon box, or otherwise, just add minatures to the game.

What was even more confusing was the PvP rules, which were modified in TANARES ADVENTURES with a new rulebook, but which was not supplied with the update kit for old backers!
I had to buy it from a TANARES ADVENTURE backer to be able to take advantage of these new rules.
What a mess
If you love the game, you did not waste your money. I have everything myself. I'm not sure what the retail version provides, but the big appeal was it is updated rules, new cards and things for the characters so they are more customizable and a conversion of Arena the Contest so that you can now play it with Tanares rules. It's called the Wasteland Expansion.
So keep both ….whew it was very confusing thank you for this

Definitely dont be feeling stupid about this. Even when this was on kickstarter, it was a super confusing.
So Arena the Contest was first. Then they had Tanares Adventures. You needed Arena to play Tanares. Tanares was sort of like an expansion, but the rules and some mechanics differed from how Arena played.
Dragori decided they wanted Arena and Tanares as one cohesive game, with the same gameply, rules, etc. So they created Ultimate Tanares. This has everything from Arena and the original Tanares. They've also made some quality of life improvements, and reworked the Arena campaign to fit into the Tanares rules.
The standee version you picked up was added in as a last minute pledge level during the Ultimate campaign. It only has a handful of Heroes and Enemies, and I think the entire Arena Campaign and some additional quests are missing.
I hope that helps clear some things up.
So is it worth it to keep my old arena Stuff and minis ?
@seahawk8601 You can keep the old Arena stuff if you want to play the Arena Campaign. The rules will be different from the Ultimate Tanares Standee version you got, so it can't be mixed and mashed. You could still use the minis from the Arena stuff, but that kinda defeats the purpose of having the standee version.
If you're really invested in the game after trying the standee version, I would recommend selling everything and trying to find both big storage boxes included in the All In Ultimate Tanares pledge.

It's sort of ironic that Tanares Ultimate was meant to make things easier and clearer for people, but in attempting to appease everyone from those purchasing Ultimate as their first ever Tanares experience to those who were in on it from the start with Arena the Contest, they just ended up making it MORE confusing I think!

Hey rob, i work for Dragori and based on what you showed in your video of what you own you didnt waste any money.
The standee edition provides the Tanares Adventures campaign experience as a standee version. This is different than the arena the contest box which has a different ruleset and it includes the PvP game mode which the standee version doesnt have.
The only thing you may have some duplicates of is the attack cards for the some of the standee heroes are also in arena the contest. The idea of this ultimate Tanares standee box was to give a complete package for new backers to experience the new campaign that was part of the "Tanares Adventures" box (which it looks like you dont have.

The old stuff ( imperal box) , would have some characters you can use that are not in tanares core. plus the original has the P vs P mode ( missing from adventures) - it is confusing but I have everything and they did explain along the way, but coming in later very hard to follow.

From what i understood from when the KS ran, ultimate is a box that combines arena the contest and tanares adventure. Or at least most of it.. maybe? Maybe not the pvp content... You're right its confusing as hell 😅
There is loads of other tanares content since they released two kallax size storage boxes to store it all.

Tanares Adventures - Ultimate Edition contains everything you need to play Tanares Adventures. It's a reprint of the original Tanares Adventures which was an expansion of Arena The Conquest
