That moment when 049 lost his cool because he was accused of also having the pestilence really shows that whatever this virus is, 049 is in denial that he could in fact have it as well.
The pestilence might not be a virus. You could interpret it as free will. It makes sense since every human 049 touches turns into a mindless zombie, but why he hates free will so much I couldn’t tell you. I for one love the idea of *not* being a mindless zombie.
The pestilence is fear. He cures people of fear in an imperfect way. Even he admits. When Jacobs faces his death without fear. 049 backs down saying the pestilence had faded. When jolanda began sympathizing with the people they were obviously killing. She feared 049 and therefore her "pestilence" became more severe to the doctor. Fear is the pestilence he is fighting to cure.

Oh I believe he's thought A LOT about it. He clearly is concerned that his "creations" are because he destroyed the person's soul, so the death of The Doctor is still affecting him now. The idea that HE may have killed him... and every other person he's encountered - and then "taken their soul" would be a horrific thought.
When the doc was quiet for a moment after being asked if he was possibly infected, I thought he would try to whoop the interviewers ass for that comment.
Honestly it’s fascinating. There’s a huge flaw in logic. 049 claims to not be immune, that it doesn’t have a cure, and only its knowledge and practise keeps it from becoming infected. Either it was born fully formed as it is now, or there’s something deeply wrong with it that it can’t process the idea of it being infected by the pestilence. You can see it struggle with the very idea. Not just disagreeing or not understanding but not being able to process the concept on a base level. Whether the pestilence is real or not, that paradox is certainly interesting
Sherbet Tea they have conflicting accounts, though we know 035 is...flippant with the truth. 049 seems to be consistent, even if it were to be incorrect at some point. Correct or incorrect though, there’s something wrong with 049. They can’t seem to grasp there was a period that they were susceptible to the disease, weren’t infected, and were never cured. The question was straightforward but was called gibberish. 049 seems to be subconsciously avoiding the topic and rejecting even thinking about it. They may very well be mad, completely separate to the pestilence. It’s mind doesn’t appear to be functioning as it should even by its own standards

Okay...wow. So 049 basically adopted a kid, raised her until she was an adult, spent enough personal time with her to grow to enjoy her company and respect her oppinions if to a limit...and he still killed her when she got in the way of his cause. It hurts me to think about Jolanda who had befriended a beast and probably trusted him like a father even when their oppinions grew appart. She thought she was safe when standing in between 049 and the humans. That she had a say in the matter. But she was never safe, because just like a tame wolf can turn on you and tear your throat out, 049 was never loyal. And though he might have valued her, her valued his cause even more. He only keept her around for as long as she followed in his fotsteps. And the same thing happened to Dr Hamm as well. They were friends. Enough so that 049 still missed him deeply. And yet the Dr still never was placed above 049s own goals and desires. Desires he claim os for all of mankind, but everything we se him do is just for himself and to calm his own anxiety and potential delutions. I am not saying 049 is evil, but what I am saying is that this potential illness that he has to cure ruins everything he has ever had. His daughter, his friends, his students... He has ruined everyrhing. Are we sure this really is a curse upon mankind, instead of a curse upon 049 himself? That he spreads an illness he just must cure, and in the prosses he drives himself further and further away from humanity and sanity? Abd if that is the case, what ever did he do to deserv such a fate? Its just...tragic to think about.
He states he will be as ruthless as needed to further his cause, my theory is it's fear. The doctor must've been afraid of dying when he entered, but slowly overcame it near the end... hence why he said it was gone. What else would tie into someone with ever fibre, and be so minuscule? An emotion, inspired into children and all to fear the unknown. SCPs are unknown, and when they're made into SCP-049-1 They cant feel emotions except anger it seems, hence their aggressiveness. But what if 049 is simply unable to feel fear, and thus he acts without a second thought?

This was fantastic!!!!!! I haven't seen the other first one you're referring to, however this video is a work of art. Perfectly captures how I'd imagine the doctor to behave and express himself.
I've seen your take of 049 in the older video, and this version is as good as that one, if not better. Do keep in mind that personality and backstory of 049 has evolved quite a bit over the last few years, so slight variation in voice is inevitable. Don't stress yourself out too much, your voice acting is better when you actually enjoy doing the voice!

My theory is that this "Pestilence" that 049 is trying to cure is the fear of death. The way he describes it, how babies are born "pure" of it, as they don't have an understanding concept of death yet, but can become infected with it as they get older when they learn what it is. The story of the servant of the prince and his wife, saying that he sensed the prince having more of this "pestilence" than the wife, meaning that the prince was much more fearful of losing his wife than the wife was scared of dying. Then there is his method of curing, he kills his patients and turns them into zombies, zombies have no fear of death because they are already dead, there is no life in them, they are mindless husks that act on instinct regardless of the danger present. He also claims that the zombies are able to sense the pestilence and kill anyone who has it, but zombies in general will attack anything living regardless if it's afraid of death or not. The story of Jolanda who, judging by 049's story, had lost her family to the black plague, and when 049 discovered her and thought she was infected, she showed no fear of death whatsoever, which prompted 049 to take her as his apprentice, with Jolanda being able to "sense" the pestilence in a person, sensing their fear of death, which was probably more exposed at the sight of 049 because at the time, if you see a plague doctor, chances are that a plague was nearby, and people become very scared of death during a plague. Eventually Jolanda began to question 049's methods, which turned tragic at the point when she and 049 happened upon a village going through an epidemic, yet 049 didn't want to cure the villagers of the actual infection they were going through, he wanted to cure them of their fear of death, which Jolanda disagreed with, saying she had an alternative that by curing their infection she would also cure their fear of death, but 049 wouldn't have it as most likely when Jolanda attempted to keep 049 away from the villagers, her fear of dying at the hands of 049 and letting him kill the villagers consumed her, prompting him to kill her. Then there is the reaction of site director Jacobs, once Jacobs had accepted his fate, that he was going to be killed by 049 and embraced death, 049 receded, saying that the pestilence is now gone from him. What 049 is trying to cure is not a disease, but an emotion, the fear of death. Mankind's strongest emotion is fear, the strongest fear is fear of the unknown, and death is the final unknown.

The first thing I want to address is that I personally believe that every living being is capable of feeling, just not in the same vein as us humans. Sure we may not hear a tree scream as we cut it down, but I personally believe it still feels the pain of it regardless. Taking your points into account, perhaps it's not necessarily the fear of death that 049 is trying to "cure", by rather fear itself, as in the emotion. I mentioned in my theory that zombies have no fear of death because they are already dead, but are zombies afraid of anything to begin with? They don't feel pain nor do they seem to mind losing limbs. You shoot or knife a zombie it's not going to feel the pain or probably even care to begin with no matter the severity of it. Zombies will literally throw themselves at anything, they have no fear. I mentioned in my theory that the sighting of a plague doctor back then made people think a plague was nearby, it created unease and tension, it created fear. We sometimes find that kind of feeling in the things we know are supposed to protect us. Like, imagine you're chilling at your house one day and suddenly you see a convoy of military soldiers and vehicles drive by, on one hand, it's nice to know that our military protects from foreign invasions, but you can't help but think why a military convoy just drove past, is something going on? Is there about to be an invasion or war? Something that protects creates unease. Same thing with the plague and plague doctors. That being said. If 049 is trying to cure fear itself, then someone must've had a sick sense of humor making him because he himself doesn't know he's causing it. That's why I don't think he ever mentions what the pestilence actually is because he himself doesn't really know, he just call it that. People see him, they become scared of a plague, he sees them scared and somehow thinks it's a disease, and tries to cure them by turning them into something that has no fear, zombies.

Why does it feel like the diease SCP 049 was talking about was fear. The doctor was accepting his death which he was no longer afraid of dying, and the so called diease disappeared. When the doctor also frist showed up the diease was festering, which is also safe to assume that he was highly afraid of dying at that moment.
I think its more ir less fear of death. The doctor at the end accepted death, he accepted he was going to die. And the cadaver brought to him which he said lacked the disease, the guy was probably dying and he accepted he was dying. Losing the pestilence.
No it's not fear. How do I know that? Because in the Initial SCP 049 video (from 2013) he says "To fear a pestilence is simple enough, but to fear it's cure is ignorance. And fear is a pestilence even I cannot cure " And yet he believes he can cure the pestilence. So it's not fear.
Honestly, i think this Doctor bringing in a specimen for 049 to study was brilliant. Under controlled conditions, 049 is practically the perfect CSI tech when it comes to SCP related victims. His perspective is unique.

I like to think that neither 035 or 049 are fully telling the truth but neither is fully lying either. 035 said that something changed when 049 ripped him off, perhaps it corrupted his memories of him. 049 was right about their first meeting but 035 was right about everything in between. After 035 told him to work on a live patient, 049 wanted nothing but to believe 035 as evil, so every fond memory that 035 claimed to have happened between them was changed to suit that title and as more time passed, the more 049 believed his own lie. To kinda back this up, both 035 and 049 seemed rather remorseful and sad when talking about each other, suggesting that they were more then acquaintances like 035 said and far more then enemies like 049 said. If 049 really hated 035 like he claimed, why would he refer to 035 by name “Dyo” and seem to speak fondly of his story telling?
It’s an interesting theory, since human minds work like that as well. Perception about someone can really change. Edit: Random fact. When you’re remembering something. You’re not remembering when it happened, you’re remembering the last time you remembered it. So you don’t actually know what your brain added along the way. (Sorry if it’s confusing)
Honestly the fact that the pestilence "recedes" right as he's about to die, and the way he's frustrated at 049 for not killing him, makes me think that the pestilence is the will to live. EDIT: As Austin Felton pointed out, it may also be the fear of death.

I think it’s death. If you think about it, the plague doctor diagnoses everyone he come in contact with the pestilence. It might be The reason he senses so much pestilence in Jacobs, is because he’s going to die. The plague doctor cannot die, because his isn’t affected by the disease.
My theory is this: SCP-049 observes things at an entirely different plane of reality, which would explain why he scoffs at the question of what the Pestilence is or why we can't see it ourselves. What he sees as the Pestilence is something that we see as something completely normal. Perhaps the Pestilence is...Human nature? Selfishness? Greed? Regardless, he is immune to whatever the Pestilence is. He comes across evasive to questions or seems like he gives vague answers, but in his field of view, he is unable to explain something so obvious and basic to him. I think that his cure truly does bring life, not death. But only from within his perception of reality. To us, he's surgically turning people into zombies. To him, he's surgically removing the Pestilence and making them pure. Perhaps in his plain of reality, these zombies are completely normal, functional beings. But there is some dimensional disparity between 049's and our perceptions of reality. We see zombies who kill on sight, but he sees them happily living amongst us. He's not crazy. He's not evil. He's doing everything he can to help humanity, but he literally doesn't belong in this reality.
After ruling out anger, hate, hope, age, ect., I'm down to a few ideas aside from your own. Those being something to do with regret/guilt and/or acceptance of death. Jacob seems pretty legit in the end there, so I'm thinking his discussion with the doctor caused him to reflect, regret and take ownership for his wrong doing... or perhaps it's because he accepted the end of his mortality.
@@93tnek I strongly believe the ‘pestilence’ is not accepting death. At the end, Jacob knew he was going to die and just let it happen, but 049 then paused and said the pestilence was gone.
I think the pestilence is pain, that's why it's universal and the reason why we are infected at birth, that's why 049 subjects are cured when revived, they can't feel pain, the pestilence is scp-2718.
I kind of feel as if 035 and 049 are telling some lies to cover each other’s asses. Whatever they were (friends, enemies, or lovers), it’s obvious they had a strong connection. And they still might want to help keep the other safe (I’m sure there’s lots of thing they’re not telling people and that if those got out they’d be in trouble.) The chemistry between the two is fascinating. Excellent work!
“Reality does not matter to a creature of his (035) habit” Given his altering of any record of his appearance to that of his current one, that statement could very well be an illusion to him being able to alter reality, history, and time itself. Which is deeply disconcerting.
The director's questioning of 049's immunity was incredible. The acting by both, the writing, the animation on the Plague Doctor, everything. Never thought to question whether he was the real carrier. I wish that I could write that well.
Every time I stroll through the comment section, I feel a need to acknowledge how Jacobs’ voice actor needs MORE complements on his brilliant voicing, the voicing of Jacobs is just too talented to be ignored!
The moment Jacobs asked, "Jesus Christ, how old is she?!" made me start laughing. My mind took it the wrong way, thinking that Jacobs believed that 049 has some cahoots with a child.
Lots of things are starting to make sense. At first I was wondering why scps like 682 and 079 were in the same facility when the 05 council first claimed that a collaborated containment breach between the two would be catastrophic. Now it makes sense that it was simply a honey pot to weed out corrupt personnel or spies in groups of interest such as the Chaos Insurgency, Global Occult Coalition and the church of the broken god. Jacob's became aware that the facility he is stationed in was filled with people from groups of interest. He became infuriated to the fact that the whole purpose was defeated. He tried his best to expose the moles which soon resulted in suspicion towards him. Knowing his plan to purge the foundation of corruption were about to go out the window he used watch as a scapegoat to get all eyes off of him so he could continue his plan in secrecy as not even the 05 council or ethics committee was free of corruption or spies. While Jacob's was continuing his plan he discovered a piece of secuirty footage which not only shined light on suspected spies but also cleared Isaacs name. Killing two birds with one stone us SCP enthusiasts and top tats fans will have to wait and see these spies actions would come back to bite them and if everything will go according to plan. There is also a lesson to this. If some paranoid, vigilant agency filled with people who do not screw around with secuirty whatsoever becomes extremely relaxed and lazy it means it's either an infiltration of a rival agency or it is meant to catch rivals off guard. You rig bait on a hook the fish comes swimming towards the food. Fill a facility with extremely valuable, dangerous or otherwise SCPs rival agencies strongly desire they will come running and the said honey pot will seduce them to the point their plan fails because it either slips out by mistake, or the plan is completely rushed causing a number of measures and phases to be overlooked. Now the foundation just needs to wait for the spies plan to slip out or fail because of simple mistakes and then the fish is on the line. Have fun fishing foundation. It was earlier In the interview where each was trying to defend the reason why they take life the foundation takes life for there own benefit vs the doctors and when it comes to blame " I was just following orders " that's something alot of soldiers and men of war go through we fight wars we kill not because we want to but we were following orders it's a defensive mechanism within us to prevent feeling guilty over taking a life it's pretty common mentality for those who are more sensitive to it.

Yet the plague doctor describes some individual's having more pestilence than others, implying that if pestilence is death there are people who are more mortal than others, which makes little sense to me.
I love how good SCP-049 is at dodging questions or creating strawman arguments to avoid the actual answers. He's really in denial. Every good doctor knows that if others can't replicate your results or you can't explain the correlation between a symptom and a disease, that it either doesn't exist or requires further research (Which apparently 049 has been conducting for CENTURIES), meaning that the "Pestilence" is more than likely either a figment of his imagination or a sickness that only he himself can spread and perceive because he is infected with it and is its carrier.
049: I can only hope it [SCP-001] does not have the Pestilence in its system. Is it the being that has created the universe? Life itself? Certain SCPs become unnerved when approached with the 001 question. They fear it but they can’t tell us their reasons.
Notice how Jacobs says "You know the one I'm talking about" and 049 acknowledges this, indicating they both know what the actual 001 is, whether or not they really do know is up for interpretation, but their certainty is interesting. *If* they both actually know, this would narrow 001 down to some sort of being, or thing, rather than an XK-class or some other kind of event, location or time. My money's on the Scarlet King, always has been, but for this series' specific lore it definitely is.
You guys never fail to make me applaud on how well the representation on the scps are. 035 made it seem like they WERE lovers and close friends and so much more then they lead on, But that was all not true. He was a stalker and was obsessed with 049 cause he was different and not like anyone else. I still feel like some of 035's things were real though..cause of how geuine he sounded. Though he is a psychopath and master manipulator so maybe those parts weren't true either. Anyways, im really excited and hoping that the two will be put in the same room together. Cant help but feel like 035 will bounce back and forth with flirting, and being angry/annoyed.

Drama and Comedy are both over the top ways of telling the truth. Yeah 035 may change the names and dates, but he can't help that he would accentuate every nuance, while the doctor would lie by omission.

Actually from what I got from The 049 video made by NewScapePro’s SCP Animated channel. It’s very likely the “pestilence” that 049 is obsessed with is free will. Think about it. Free will is what allows us to have our own individuality and allows us to make our own choices, but that also includes choices that could result in horrible consequences and can lead to death and destruction. If we didn’t have free will, war wouldn’t exist and neither would evil in human society.

I love how in the video Jacob got a character arc for his character. I actually like Jacob more now because before I wasn’t so sure of him but after watching the video he’s my favorite human character. Like 049 said he has potential. I’m liking the story of Jacob and Watch. The only thing that makes me nervous is whether Watch will choose to join his sister or stay loyal to the foundation and Jacob. I only hope that Watch makes the right choice

This is the longest SCP Sedition to date and the most time consuming.
The reason it took so long was because after the Top Aquatic SCPs, I took a month and a half hiatus due to almost burning out on video making. Also when i went back to work on this video during late july, a heatwave hit the UK and most of my electronics were malfunctioning due to temperatures reaching 98 - 101F, the fans I had were not working as they should. Also this sedition has a whopping *9953* words I had to subtitle, compared to previous entries only being 1 or 3 thousand.

The pestilence might not be a virus. You could interpret it as free will. It makes sense since every human 049 touches turns into a mindless zombie, but why he hates free will so much I couldn’t tell you. I for one love the idea of *not* being a mindless zombie.
The pestilence is fear. He cures people of fear in an imperfect way. Even he admits. When Jacobs faces his death without fear. 049 backs down saying the pestilence had faded. When jolanda began sympathizing with the people they were obviously killing. She feared 049 and therefore her "pestilence" became more severe to the doctor. Fear is the pestilence he is fighting to cure.

Honestly it’s fascinating. There’s a huge flaw in logic. 049 claims to not be immune, that it doesn’t have a cure, and only its knowledge and practise keeps it from becoming infected. Either it was born fully formed as it is now, or there’s something deeply wrong with it that it can’t process the idea of it being infected by the pestilence. You can see it struggle with the very idea. Not just disagreeing or not understanding but not being able to process the concept on a base level. Whether the pestilence is real or not, that paradox is certainly interesting
Sherbet Tea they have conflicting accounts, though we know 035 is...flippant with the truth. 049 seems to be consistent, even if it were to be incorrect at some point. Correct or incorrect though, there’s something wrong with 049. They can’t seem to grasp there was a period that they were susceptible to the disease, weren’t infected, and were never cured. The question was straightforward but was called gibberish. 049 seems to be subconsciously avoiding the topic and rejecting even thinking about it. They may very well be mad, completely separate to the pestilence. It’s mind doesn’t appear to be functioning as it should even by its own standards

Okay...wow. So 049 basically adopted a kid, raised her until she was an adult, spent enough personal time with her to grow to enjoy her company and respect her oppinions if to a limit...and he still killed her when she got in the way of his cause.
It hurts me to think about Jolanda who had befriended a beast and probably trusted him like a father even when their oppinions grew appart. She thought she was safe when standing in between 049 and the humans. That she had a say in the matter. But she was never safe, because just like a tame wolf can turn on you and tear your throat out, 049 was never loyal.
And though he might have valued her, her valued his cause even more. He only keept her around for as long as she followed in his fotsteps.
And the same thing happened to Dr Hamm as well. They were friends. Enough so that 049 still missed him deeply. And yet the Dr still never was placed above 049s own goals and desires. Desires he claim os for all of mankind, but everything we se him do is just for himself and to calm his own anxiety and potential delutions.
I am not saying 049 is evil, but what I am saying is that this potential illness that he has to cure ruins everything he has ever had. His daughter, his friends, his students... He has ruined everyrhing.
Are we sure this really is a curse upon mankind, instead of a curse upon 049 himself? That he spreads an illness he just must cure, and in the prosses he drives himself further and further away from humanity and sanity? Abd if that is the case, what ever did he do to deserv such a fate?

SCPs are unknown, and when they're made into SCP-049-1 They cant feel emotions except anger it seems, hence their aggressiveness. But what if 049 is simply unable to feel fear, and thus he acts without a second thought?

This was fantastic!!!!!! I haven't seen the other first one you're referring to, however this video is a work of art. Perfectly captures how I'd imagine the doctor to behave and express himself.
I've seen your take of 049 in the older video, and this version is as good as that one, if not better. Do keep in mind that personality and backstory of 049 has evolved quite a bit over the last few years, so slight variation in voice is inevitable. Don't stress yourself out too much, your voice acting is better when you actually enjoy doing the voice!

My theory is that this "Pestilence" that 049 is trying to cure is the fear of death.
The way he describes it, how babies are born "pure" of it, as they don't have an understanding concept of death yet, but can become infected with it as they get older when they learn what it is.
The story of the servant of the prince and his wife, saying that he sensed the prince having more of this "pestilence" than the wife, meaning that the prince was much more fearful of losing his wife than the wife was scared of dying.
Then there is his method of curing, he kills his patients and turns them into zombies, zombies have no fear of death because they are already dead, there is no life in them, they are mindless husks that act on instinct regardless of the danger present. He also claims that the zombies are able to sense the pestilence and kill anyone who has it, but zombies in general will attack anything living regardless if it's afraid of death or not.
The story of Jolanda who, judging by 049's story, had lost her family to the black plague, and when 049 discovered her and thought she was infected, she showed no fear of death whatsoever, which prompted 049 to take her as his apprentice, with Jolanda being able to "sense" the pestilence in a person, sensing their fear of death, which was probably more exposed at the sight of 049 because at the time, if you see a plague doctor, chances are that a plague was nearby, and people become very scared of death during a plague.
Eventually Jolanda began to question 049's methods, which turned tragic at the point when she and 049 happened upon a village going through an epidemic, yet 049 didn't want to cure the villagers of the actual infection they were going through, he wanted to cure them of their fear of death, which Jolanda disagreed with, saying she had an alternative that by curing their infection she would also cure their fear of death, but 049 wouldn't have it as most likely when Jolanda attempted to keep 049 away from the villagers, her fear of dying at the hands of 049 and letting him kill the villagers consumed her, prompting him to kill her.
Then there is the reaction of site director Jacobs, once Jacobs had accepted his fate, that he was going to be killed by 049 and embraced death, 049 receded, saying that the pestilence is now gone from him. What 049 is trying to cure is not a disease, but an emotion, the fear of death. Mankind's strongest emotion is fear, the strongest fear is fear of the unknown, and death is the final unknown.

The first thing I want to address is that I personally believe that every living being is capable of feeling, just not in the same vein as us humans. Sure we may not hear a tree scream as we cut it down, but I personally believe it still feels the pain of it regardless.
Taking your points into account, perhaps it's not necessarily the fear of death that 049 is trying to "cure", by rather fear itself, as in the emotion.
I mentioned in my theory that zombies have no fear of death because they are already dead, but are zombies afraid of anything to begin with? They don't feel pain nor do they seem to mind losing limbs. You shoot or knife a zombie it's not going to feel the pain or probably even care to begin with no matter the severity of it. Zombies will literally throw themselves at anything, they have no fear.
I mentioned in my theory that the sighting of a plague doctor back then made people think a plague was nearby, it created unease and tension, it created fear. We sometimes find that kind of feeling in the things we know are supposed to protect us. Like, imagine you're chilling at your house one day and suddenly you see a convoy of military soldiers and vehicles drive by, on one hand, it's nice to know that our military protects from foreign invasions, but you can't help but think why a military convoy just drove past, is something going on? Is there about to be an invasion or war? Something that protects creates unease. Same thing with the plague and plague doctors.
That being said. If 049 is trying to cure fear itself, then someone must've had a sick sense of humor making him because he himself doesn't know he's causing it. That's why I don't think he ever mentions what the pestilence actually is because he himself doesn't really know, he just call it that. People see him, they become scared of a plague, he sees them scared and somehow thinks it's a disease, and tries to cure them by turning them into something that has no fear, zombies.

Why does it feel like the diease SCP 049 was talking about was fear. The doctor was accepting his death which he was no longer afraid of dying, and the so called diease disappeared. When the doctor also frist showed up the diease was festering, which is also safe to assume that he was highly afraid of dying at that moment.
This also makes sense since 049 considers his proxies (the zombies) "cured"
I think its more ir less fear of death. The doctor at the end accepted death, he accepted he was going to die. And the cadaver brought to him which he said lacked the disease, the guy was probably dying and he accepted he was dying. Losing the pestilence.

Honestly, i think this Doctor bringing in a specimen for 049 to study was brilliant. Under controlled conditions, 049 is practically the perfect CSI tech when it comes to SCP related victims. His perspective is unique.

I like to think that neither 035 or 049 are fully telling the truth but neither is fully lying either. 035 said that something changed when 049 ripped him off, perhaps it corrupted his memories of him. 049 was right about their first meeting but 035 was right about everything in between. After 035 told him to work on a live patient, 049 wanted nothing but to believe 035 as evil, so every fond memory that 035 claimed to have happened between them was changed to suit that title and as more time passed, the more 049 believed his own lie.
To kinda back this up, both 035 and 049 seemed rather remorseful and sad when talking about each other, suggesting that they were more then acquaintances like 035 said and far more then enemies like 049 said. If 049 really hated 035 like he claimed, why would he refer to 035 by name “Dyo” and seem to speak fondly of his story telling?

Honestly the fact that the pestilence "recedes" right as he's about to die, and the way he's frustrated at 049 for not killing him, makes me think that the pestilence is the will to live.

I think it’s death. If you think about it, the plague doctor diagnoses everyone he come in contact with the pestilence. It might be The reason he senses so much pestilence in Jacobs, is because he’s going to die. The plague doctor cannot die, because his isn’t affected by the disease.

My theory is this:
SCP-049 observes things at an entirely different plane of reality, which would explain why he scoffs at the question of what the Pestilence is or why we can't see it ourselves.
What he sees as the Pestilence is something that we see as something completely normal. Perhaps the Pestilence is...Human nature? Selfishness? Greed? Regardless, he is immune to whatever the Pestilence is.
He comes across evasive to questions or seems like he gives vague answers, but in his field of view, he is unable to explain something so obvious and basic to him.
I think that his cure truly does bring life, not death. But only from within his perception of reality. To us, he's surgically turning people into zombies. To him, he's surgically removing the Pestilence and making them pure. Perhaps in his plain of reality, these zombies are completely normal, functional beings. But there is some dimensional disparity between 049's and our perceptions of reality. We see zombies who kill on sight, but he sees them happily living amongst us. He's not crazy. He's not evil. He's doing everything he can to help humanity, but he literally doesn't belong in this reality.

After ruling out anger, hate, hope, age, ect., I'm down to a few ideas aside from your own. Those being something to do with regret/guilt and/or acceptance of death. Jacob seems pretty legit in the end there, so I'm thinking his discussion with the doctor caused him to reflect, regret and take ownership for his wrong doing... or perhaps it's because he accepted the end of his mortality.

I think the pestilence is pain, that's why it's universal and the reason why we are infected at birth, that's why 049 subjects are cured when revived, they can't feel pain, the pestilence is scp-2718.
I kind of feel as if 035 and 049 are telling some lies to cover each other’s asses. Whatever they were (friends, enemies, or lovers), it’s obvious they had a strong connection. And they still might want to help keep the other safe (I’m sure there’s lots of thing they’re not telling people and that if those got out they’d be in trouble.) The chemistry between the two is fascinating. Excellent work!

The director's questioning of 049's immunity was incredible. The acting by both, the writing, the animation on the Plague Doctor, everything. Never thought to question whether he was the real carrier. I wish that I could write that well.

Lots of things are starting to make sense. At first I was wondering why scps like 682 and 079 were in the same facility when the 05 council first claimed that a collaborated containment breach between the two would be catastrophic. Now it makes sense that it was simply a honey pot to weed out corrupt personnel or spies in groups of interest such as the Chaos Insurgency, Global Occult Coalition and the church of the broken god. Jacob's became aware that the facility he is stationed in was filled with people from groups of interest. He became infuriated to the fact that the whole purpose was defeated. He tried his best to expose the moles which soon resulted in suspicion towards him. Knowing his plan to purge the foundation of corruption were about to go out the window he used watch as a scapegoat to get all eyes off of him so he could continue his plan in secrecy as not even the 05 council or ethics committee was free of corruption or spies. While Jacob's was continuing his plan he discovered a piece of secuirty footage which not only shined light on suspected spies but also cleared Isaacs name. Killing two birds with one stone us SCP enthusiasts and top tats fans will have to wait and see these spies actions would come back to bite them and if everything will go according to plan. There is also a lesson to this. If some paranoid, vigilant agency filled with people who do not screw around with secuirty whatsoever becomes extremely relaxed and lazy it means it's either an infiltration of a rival agency or it is meant to catch rivals off guard. You rig bait on a hook the fish comes swimming towards the food. Fill a facility with extremely valuable, dangerous or otherwise SCPs rival agencies strongly desire they will come running and the said honey pot will seduce them to the point their plan fails because it either slips out by mistake, or the plan is completely rushed causing a number of measures and phases to be overlooked. Now the foundation just needs to wait for the spies plan to slip out or fail because of simple mistakes and then the fish is on the line. Have fun fishing foundation.

It was earlier In the interview where each was trying to defend the reason why they take life the foundation takes life for there own benefit vs the doctors and when it comes to blame " I was just following orders " that's something alot of soldiers and men of war go through we fight wars we kill not because we want to but we were following orders it's a defensive mechanism within us to prevent feeling guilty over taking a life it's pretty common mentality for those who are more sensitive to it.

I love how good SCP-049 is at dodging questions or creating strawman arguments to avoid the actual answers. He's really in denial. Every good doctor knows that if others can't replicate your results or you can't explain the correlation between a symptom and a disease, that it either doesn't exist or requires further research (Which apparently 049 has been conducting for CENTURIES), meaning that the "Pestilence" is more than likely either a figment of his imagination or a sickness that only he himself can spread and perceive because he is infected with it and is its carrier.
049: I can only hope it [SCP-001] does not have the Pestilence in its system. If so... my work is meaningless... as is the function of all life
This gives us even more questions about who or what 001 truly is, as we collect clues from the SCP, but not full answers. Is it the being that has created the universe? Life itself? Certain SCPs become unnerved when approached with the 001 question. They fear it but they can’t tell us their reasons.
Notice how Jacobs says "You know the one I'm talking about" and 049 acknowledges this, indicating they both know what the actual 001 is, whether or not they really do know is up for interpretation, but their certainty is interesting.
*If* they both actually know, this would narrow 001 down to some sort of being, or thing, rather than an XK-class or some other kind of event, location or time.
My money's on the Scarlet King, always has been, but for this series' specific lore it definitely is.

You guys never fail to make me applaud on how well the representation on the scps are. 035 made it seem like they WERE lovers and close friends and so much more then they lead on, But that was all not true. He was a stalker and was obsessed with 049 cause he was different and not like anyone else. I still feel like some of 035's things were real though..cause of how geuine he sounded. Though he is a psychopath and master manipulator so maybe those parts weren't true either. Anyways, im really excited and hoping that the two will be put in the same room together. Actually from what I got from The 049 video made by NewScapePro’s SCP Animated channel. It’s very likely the “pestilence” that 049 is obsessed with is free will. Think about it. Free will is what allows us to have our own individuality and allows us to make our own choices, but that also includes choices that could result in horrible consequences and can lead to death and destruction. If we didn’t have free will, war wouldn’t exist and neither would evil in human society.

I love how in the video Jacob got a character arc for his character. I actually like Jacob more now because before I wasn’t so sure of him but after watching the video he’s my favorite human character. Like 049 said he has potential. I’m liking the story of Jacob and Watch. The only thing that makes me nervous is whether Watch will choose to join his sister or stay loyal to the foundation and Jacob. I only hope that Watch makes the right choice
049 is a huge mini lore itself. Him going on easily was a complete trap for them

Ahh man not to sound like a broken record but, it is every time lol, I was watching a musician live stream, he reads a small portion of french on a champagne bottle, and for literally 20 minutes straight the comment feed was being LIT UP by French people writing in all caps asking him to sing in French lol
