Why Hawaii Has So Many Military Bases

  • Hawaii has in total 11 military bases and also some small military camps. compared to other US states Hawaii has the most military presence. The reason for this is Hawaii's strategic location. Hawaii is in the middle of east Asia and North America, and having a base there means, if an attack happens, the US army will be able to stop the hostile force far from the mainland. Hawaii is beneficial for both defense and attack. it is close to Asia for quick attack and relatively far from the US to defend.

    Unfortunately, Hawaii would be one of the first places hit if we ever get a nuclear conflict. It is certainly within range of the PLA Navy's Type 094 ballistic missile submarines operating in the East China Sea.

      Unfortunately U.S. mainland will be hit only 20 minutes later. So it’s not really “unfortunate”. The entire world is at risk as soon as 1 nuke is launched.

    Military buys and rents our precious housing while they could stay in Military housing which was built with our tax dollars and sit vacant. I just saw a sign at Wheeler saying now Leasing?! So we cannot afford to live in our own aina and because housing prices are driven up by military with tax free benefits, COLA, and housing allowance and we have to live and rent on bases?!

    At 5:05 the stock footage is of a British aircraft carrier, the "Q" on the flight deck means this is HMS Queen Elizabeth II R08, not the HMS Prince of Wales.

    They say we need them but they can never admit they need us! I get it the worlds crazy but we were historically alleys with every great nation before our illegal over throw! If America wasn’t here we would have friendly diplomatic relations with all the Pacific Ocean neighbors. We were never reluctant to change. Our kinds sent our people to university in the mainland and all around the world were never stubborn but we kept our values. Hawaii is a sovereign kingdom and one day maybe again to preserve our identity! We have homestead but the list is 99+ years long. We want allies and appreciate the opportunity to be apart of the most powerful, diverse democracy to ever exist but we’re not asking for charity just to be heard. We’re not crying but playing patient out world was turned inside out and upside down less than 70 years ago and we’re doing fine but our battle is far from over. We just want our lineage to strive on and our situation is bleak but with our small numbers and humble hearts controlled by our wisdom we will prosper to take care of our islands and land that gave us the chance to be who we are.

    There are 21 military bases on Hawaii that have out lived
    their usefulness. That land should be turned over to the Hawaiian people so that affordable housing can be built for the Hawaiian people.

    Maui is the most strategic place for the military. Hmm any connection with those so called 'natural' fires there. For some strange reason the blue roofed houses of the elite like Ophra escaped those fires.

    Way, way, way to many. With technology today, they are not needed. Pearl should be shut down, along with the Marine and army base. With the closing of the fuel tanks, ships have no reason to stop here. Only one air base is relevant and needed. People and gooberment here don't want the military here. What they don't understand is how much money the military brings into the state. But hawaii keeps on biting the hand that feeds it.

    • @Broadvay
      @Broadvay  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I think so too, but I strategically it is important for America and it's safety, but a base on probably an empty island would've be better.
