    Currently as we speak Im rebuilding a OM642 out of a Sprinter. Mine was using a quart of oil every 100 miles. Found oil rings collapsed and expanders broken. Extreme carbon in intake ports, almost closed up. Id be very interested in other videos of this one your building now. Just curious on path you guys took on rebuild. I had mine honed and checked, reusing pistons and installing new rings and bearings amongst other parts. Im also interested in the cost for customer. I cant image what this would cost me using OEM parts and paying labor cost. Im assuming 40hrs labor at $125 per hour. Ive built several engines at Honda and Toyota dealers but this is a first on Mercedes Turbo Diesel. It's been a different animal for sure.

      Its a real shame Mercedes didn't made the PCV a serviceable item, at least every 50k km. It seems that when they fail, they put so much gunk in the intake that it gets completely f-ed, and the combustion chamber eats all that nastiness/oil, in return creating more soot than normal by burning it which is washed away by the piston rings and gets them stuck. A $50 item changed in about 2 minutes can end up costing a full rebuild...

    Thanks for explaining that. Did that engine come out from top of the car together with transmission true hood or under the car?

    Does this engines diesel pump need timing if removed to tighten the bolts on the backing plate ?? I have come across comments saying it needs timing and others saying that doesn't. There isnt many videos covering the fuel pumps of this engine an none installing them

      I agree but it’s not only the engine it’s the whole emission control process, the add-blue, Nox sensors, Turbo, seals, direct injection… I stopped taking this engines in my shop, Mercedes should buy back all this cars and pay back the billions of dollars people spend on this cars.

      I have 886K miles on 2013 Sprinter and 450K on 2019 Sprinter with this engine and never rebuild. How is this worst engine??? Maintain it with proper stuff it will last

    • @vintagehaynesflute
      @vintagehaynesflute 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dariodjakovic1600 I maintained it by the book and the year it went out of warranty it cost $9000 to keep it on the road. The reason that the E class with 642 BlueTec engines are so rare in the USA is that most have been junked because the repairs are more expensive than the value of the car

      @@vintagehaynesflute the one used in Sprinters takes almost 14 quarts of oil and one used in w211 uses like 8qt of oil on oil change. Lubrication is the key to longevity. When it comes to W211 E320 CDI the 2005-2006 with inline 6 OM648 engine is some of the best diesels ever made.
