I agree with you on the surface..but really is it that much different when you use a bait that replicates most everything live does? Ie. Using scents, gulp, power bait, using jerk baits and flashers. Ive bren fishing in many places and caught more fish on fake baits vs. Live in the same areas. So this is the debate
Very interesting and instructive and a real eye-opener. What the videos seem to teach us that the predators (if they are of any size) engulf their prey instantly, so presumably an immediate strike is no less likely to connect than waiting for a run to develop.
I know you guys don't eat perch...why? I mean, is it just to preserve the sport or is there an aversion to it? I live in Alaska now, but I grew up in Washington state and LOVED catching a mess of perch, excellent flavor!!

Back in the early 70's I was fishing with my Grandfather on the River Dee just upstream from Bridge of Dee on the ex Colonel Ross's estate (he knew him since the 1940's I believe). He landed some monster Perch there, 3lbs and upwards. We took a couple with us and had them for supper. Also some nice Pike which we were instructed to kill if landed.

Neat footage I wish our water was clear enough to get good footage like that. Perch aren't afraid to hit a big bait thats for sure. Around here we have white and yellow perch and I've caught white perch on jigs meant for striped bass and the jig was just about as big as the perch that tried to eat it. Striped bass are another one I've caught striped bass in the 18-20 inch range on a parachute jig with a 9 inch shad body. We also find them floating from time to time either dead or dying from trying to eat a baitfish that was over half the length of their body. You'd think they'd have an idea what size baits they can eat and what size they can't but its seems they don't and will try just about anything hoping they can just spit it out if they can't get it down.
Awesome footage, I'm Curious on how you filmed it? I have filmed some underwater footage with one of the lure camera's. I'm guessing you could watch in real time??
Man that’s such a different perspective! I really like ur normal content but this is on a whole new level! Merry Christmas and happy fishing from Michigan USA!!!✌🏼💯🔥
Pike and trout have such amazing acceleration because of the S-shape they can form with their spines to preload their propulsion. Bigger surface area than their prey. I always tell new fishers learning that you can't troll the boat nor crank your bait too fast for big pike, if they want it they'll get it.
Have you seen an Atlantic bass of around 3lbs hit a lure on top of the water, a savage gear sandeel on the way in...I fish for pike and trout too but the bass is definitely more agresive. I respect all the fish lol and it's only my personal observation 😂👍👍
Redfish are even more impressive than striped bass when they hit a top water lure. Because their mouth is pretty low on their they head they have to get higher in the water column to eat a bait on the surface which results in some pretty impressive takes. Combine that with their bulldog nature and they are just plain fun catch.
I only found your channel a couple of days ago, and I don't fresh water fish. But I have got to say you have some really interesting footage and tactics and I have enjoyed every vid I have watched so far . You have a new sub 👍

Not gonna lie, over the years i've seen chicks get taken by predators, was still a shock to see a dead one used as bait! Thanks for your uploads.
Fantastic video mate keep them coming been watching a lot of your videos top class
Isn't it illegal to use live vertebrates as bait in the UK?
in Germany is Live bait illegal
Love to see the speed and instincts of the predators.
Good illustration of why live baiting gets the contempt it deserves, even the majority of anglers see how it takes any skill out of the 'sport'

Totally agree - and in addition it is just sadist from my point of view.

Rare to actually see Pike loading up into the "S" then exploding out of it, but 5:39 is great footage of it. Awesome vids, bud.
