ShadowXore “Final Haunt” personally I love this theme. It really does feel like a Final Haunt. It’s like, “yeah, we’re finally here! Let’s get this over with!”
That’s the idea, compare this to the semi dark finale Black Comet. In that stage you’ve already helped Black Doom making the comet more dangerous and slower paced but it’s also under attack by G.U.N because you haven’t fully obeyed him making the final fight more two sided. Here you’ve pretty much stopped Black Doom and the game wants you to feel like nothing can stop you from taking him down (aside from Shadow deciding randomly he’s better than Sonic for no reason because it has to have a Dark mission)

Both of them have pretty slow, relaxed themes. At least, considering what you’d expect from fast-paced, violent final levels. But it represents the fact that there is no more inner conflict within Shadow. His mind is fully made up. He knows where his heart is. The difference is, in Final Haunt, Shadow knows who he is. I love the confidence that radiates from this track. Like you and your buddy Sonic have repelled the invasion and boldly rush towards the inner sanctum of their base, chill vibes reflecting your own confidence in your moral cause, and you get to take in the fascinating alien atmosphere while you send these creatures back where they came.
The most cheerful song in this edge of a game. It basically goes like: "Nice job,Shadow,the aliens are completely screwed,humanity is saved,you are free to go."
"Well, Shadow, it looks like we've reached the climax of this little game. Time to make the big boss man responsible for this invasion step up and play!"
Shadow feels alive here, and closer to retaining his memories and promise to Maria in this context (at least for the Pure Hero/Hero ending). He feels at peace and is happy with his decisions cos he's found his identity once again. It's similar with the GUN Fortress song except the opposite for his identity, which in that case he has lost in order to get himself inner peace (again for the Pure Dark/Dark ending).
Westopolis is the Most Chaotic. You've just started the game and have no idea what's going on. All you see is Burning buildings, Aliens vs humans shooting eachother, Explosion, Shadow running past it all trying to help one side with black doom and sonic at your Ear telling you what to do.
Penny and Chase's rap cover of this was incredible. Shadow's soundtrack tends to get slept on but for how much white noise the game is, tracks like this go harder than you'd ever thought, including with vocals.

Same! Been saying this for years, this game has largely pretty great soundtrack. It got me curious about the game 10 years ago and I've always found it better than the reviews seem to like making it out to be!
The level design in Final Haunt is more "Sonic-esque" with more straight-lined sprintways to run through and with this music to put you at ease, really brings out the idea of Shadow and Sonic finally working together.
The pure dark and pure hero final levels have the calmest songs in the game. The difference? Gun Fortress is mellow, while this is chill. I guess it's to show that Shadow has made his decision, and he's no longer conflicted.
Forgettable? Shadow the Hedgehog's OST? I dunno man... maybe it's just nostalgia from when I first listened to this playlist, but this stuff is pretty soothing, for me...
I do think most of the rock-styled songs in this game didn't really mix well together. It's sort of mashed together and sounds like a bit of a car crash honestly. Songs like this, GUN Fortress, The ARK and a few others are quite good though and I feel fit the context for their stories. When that's the case with the music I'm this game I can appreciate it so much more
I enjoy a few from Shadow's OST like the remixes to the Adventure 2 songs, Sky Troops, Space Gadget, Final Haunt, Death Ruins, The Doom, The Ark and Lost Impact.

I love the actual character and story of Shadow, but I guess just including the guns and stuff in the game was the issue for people, but the fact that he’s like a scientifically engineered weapon of a hedgehog is awesome. He’s badass.
@Stellamence I'd argue it's because of his amnesia that he's out of character. Like the whole point of the game is him trying to figure out who he is and why he was created. He can't exactly act in-character when he doesn't even remember what motivated him to save the world in SA2. Plus after he does remember who he is in the True Ending he saves humanity again and lets go of his past. The game was just a way to play off of his amnesia in Heroes and play around with different non-canonical outcomes for his character depending on how you played.
@@TheStrikeofGod The very game it was playing off of already sorta tied up Shadow's amnesia plotline (he gives a little speech at the start of Egg Fleet saying how he doesn't care about his memories). And even ignoring that, this game poorly handled it with the web of routes with occasional bits of canon information in between (the worst being the confirmation that Shadow isn't an android ONLY if you spend way too long in the Devil Doom boss fight) leading to a whole bunch of endings that mean literally nothing when there's a True Ending to invalidate them all. It makes what should've been a straightforward game and plot extremely convoluted and confusing. Also, his amnesia isn't an excuse for how he acts when he wasn't like this in Heroes. Not having memories didn't stop him from instinctively rescuing Rouge when Omega went berserk. Or bantering with Sonic. Or bantering with Rouge at the end of Team Dark's story. He was still the same Shadow in that game as he was in SA2 (minus the secretly planning to kill everyone) despite his amnesia. So that's not an excuse to make him extremely edgy, have him gunning down people, and spamming minor swears left and right. Shadow (the game) ruined Shadow's character, something 06 somehow managed to recover at the cost of ruining literally everything else.

Also it could be chalked up to him constantly thinking about the memory of Maria dying and having no idea who he is causing him to become jaded. I know in Heroes he said it doesn't matter if he's real or not, but it's not too far-fetched to think that maybe after an extended period of time he went back on that as not knowing who you are would make anyone want answers, even if they said it doesn't bother them. The game did not ruin his character as much as people want to say it did. Shadow's game was a mess and could have been much better I agree, but it didn't completely ruin his character. I do think a good amount of issues with the game are due to the bad translation, however, as in Japanese the game is way less tryhard.

And "fun" those routes may have is immediately killed by how unfun it is to get through them due to the god-forsaken mission system that, when it's not throwing you a bone with something simple like a "Get to the Goal" Neutral Mission, is asking you to kill a specific number of enemies or do some action a specific number of times when there are ONLY that many enemies/tasks in the level, no more, no less, forcing you to scour the level up and down to track down that one thing you missed somewhere. That combined with the raw number of endings (10) you have to get, only to have them all invalidated by the existence of Last Story, makes these "what-if" scenarios a bane more than a boon. "Also 06 played off of Shadow's ending where he already vowed to put the past behind him" Like how he vowed to put his past behind him during the endgame of Team Dark's story in Heroes? "but it didn't completely ruin his character." Shadow is the main reason for later Sonic games painting him as a brooding edgelord, Meta/Pontaff era being the biggest offender. "as in Japanese the game is way less tryhard." The Japanese script is an irrelevant point, as that isn't the script we got over here in the West and had to deal with. The same way the Forces JP script doesn't matter when the version WE got and had to the displeasure of seeing was the one where Sonic was apparently tortured for months leading up to his rescue where he clearly hasn't been tortured. Those are the versions we were given, and those are the ones the games will be judged by.
@@espurrseyes42 He only says any of that in the dark routes, again non-canon routes. He didn't need it in 06 because he already came to terms with it in his own game. A lot, if not all, of what Shadow is in 06 was already set up in his own game. The mission layout is more of an issue with the game design than the story, and I agree it could have been much better. And he didn't really put it behind him in Heroes. He basically said that he didn't care if he was real or not that he was still Shadow. He never said the past didn't matter to him, and even if he did its possible for people to change their minds. Personally I don't see how this game caused him to be an edgelord as he still has a decent character in it, I don't see why it's existence is why future games screwed up his character especially if he was done right in the game immediately after it. Also all my point about the JP script was was that the game wasn't originally suppose to be certain ways but a'ight. All I'll say is agree to disagree as I feel his character was still done right in his own game.
Shadow knows who he is now. Like hell anybody is gonna say otherwise. He’s got a promise to keep. And now, he’s not alone. He has friends. Like hell he’s ever gonna abandon anyone else ever again.
I love that the music sounds so casual. For This Shadow, saving the world is just Tuesday. Shadow has completely made up his mind, there is no more turmoil in him. He's a hero and he knows that now. Jumping into the HQ of a horrific alien race bent on mass genocide? Sure, he'll destroy their base and still be back in time for dinner. A heroic song that's grand and epic would devalue this moment. The casual vibe music let's us know being the hero of Earth is nothing new to him. This isn't the first time he's saved the world and it SURE isn't going to be the last. He now is with his friend Sonic He's content, and dare I say it, happy. He knows who he is now: A hero.
@@SuperSonic18969 if you NEED one of the ten endings to be canon and lead into The Last Way it would probably be the pure hero - dark ending. it's supposed to be a friendly scuffle between sonic and shadow before dealing with black doom. it helps to explain why black doom would still believe shadow would be willing to help him (especially if you played a path that included a few dark missions, my personal favorite being "The Legend of Shadow") since you block off the pathways to prevent any GUN forces from interfering. for shadow this is most likely done so he can have black doom for himself, although it's kinda hard to explain why all the other characters end up on the black comet anyways in The Last Way. anyways the most likely scenario for the "canon story" of the game is essentially the same structure as expert mode (but obviously not set after the events of the main game) and ending with the last story. i say this because in the final battle eggman mentions that he (at some point) lied to shadow and told him he was an android, but this never happens in any path that leads to Final Haunt. although, the scene before Space Gadget does take place in Iron Jungle, which is where eggman claimed shadow was an android, so it could be assumed in any path that includes Space Gadget that shadow also went through Iron Jungle offscreen and was told the lie by eggman. i can also see the dark ending to cosmic fall being a fitting canonical ending that leads into the last way

It's somewhat fitting that Sonic is your partner here, paralleling Westopolis and their rivalry in general since those two are frequently butting heads. Shadow isn't just a faker anymore, he's his own person now.
I find it weird to how chill this song was. It's one of the last levels, right? Shouldn't be more exciting or something? But I understand why. It feels like we're finally here. The FINAL Haunt.
This point has been many times, but the reason for the change of pace is Shadow's current mentality at this point. He's remembered his past and his promise to protect humanity, so now he goes to face Black Doom and save the world with this peace of mind. This is reflected in the OST: he's filled with hope, determination, and confidence in himself.
I've really slept on this ost. I just assumed it would be "blow your ears out" generic guitar noises, but no, this might actually be in my top ten, maybe even five sonic osts.
It was strangely cathodic going through Radical Highway Act 2 with this playing. This track was certainly stuck in my head for a couple of days, trying to get that S rank

Shadow The Hedgehog had quite a few awesome songs in it: Digital Circuit Cryptic Castle Death Ruins Air Fleet GUN Fortress Lava Shelter Final Haunt All final boss themes (Diablon & Sonic, Egg Dealer, Black Doom; Devil Doom) and all vocal songs (I am..., Almost Dead, Waking Up, The Chosen One, Broken, Never Turn Back, E.G.G.M.A.N.)
I honestly loved the atmopshere and look of the black comet stages. I especially enjoyed Final Haunt and its music. I kept playing multiple paths just to play this stage over and over.

I’ve used to play and get stuck in this stage while I was playing this game at my grandma’s house. Since this happened on February, this theme reminds me of my memories in school of Valentine’s Day, and the night time of this lovely winter.

Finally after everything we’re here, humanity… no Earth’s hero once scorned and betrayed has made up his mind. He knows who he is, he knows what he wants to do, whether he regained all of his memories or not is irrelevant, Shadow knows who he is now. He isn’t some weapon to be used, he isn’t some monster to be feared, no he’s whoever he chooses to be. And he has chosen to be the hero the Earth needed in her darkest hours. As he charges headfirst through this dark abyss that is the Black Comet, his mind is made up. No matter what Black Doom might try, it’s all in vain. Shadow is humanity’s savior, he’s the Earth’s hero, the Ultimate Lifeform and even knowing the future, knowing the truth that Mephiles and Omega both illustrated during the events of 06, knowing that he will once more find himself being feared and hated by humanity didn’t change anything. Shadow isn’t acting on some promise he made long ago, he isn’t doing this because anyone told him to, no, he chose this. Shadow, for perhaps the first time in his life, has been given the opportunity to chose for himself the life he will lead, the kind of person he will be, and in doing so proved both Maria and Sonic right. He’s a hero through and through, he isn’t an anti-hero, he isn’t an antagonist, no, he’s a man of action who gets things done and was more than willing to bury the hatchet with the people who once wronged him, the people who stole everything from him 50 years ago. He works for G.U.N because that’s what will help him do more good, he let go of his hate and rage, because seeking vengeance won’t make him happy. Now he has a family, people who will be there for him through thick and thin. He made a good friend, in many ways perhaps what some may call a best friend in Sonic. The two of them may butt heads on occasion, but never antagonistically, it’s always in a respectful way. Shadow is far more reserved, not closed off, but almost the exact opposite to Sonic and his devil may care attitude about things. In many ways this whole level acts as a sort of look into Shadow as a person, how even in this darkness light still shines through. Shadow whether he likes it or not, lives a life ruled by Chaos, and no matter how hard he tries he can’t ever fully control it. Both him and Sonic are the same in that way, the only difference is that for the longest time Shadow kept fighting it, until he realized like Sonic did long before we met him, that fighting it is pointless, he can’t control it so why strain yourself attempting to? Sonic is freed by his acceptance that life is chaotic, free in that chaos to live as he pleases doing what he wants where he wants. Sonic isn’t tied down, he doesn’t have a place to call home, he just goes wherever the wind takes him. Sonic and Shadow show the two different approaches one can take once accepting the chaos of life. Shadow, unlike Sonic, has a job working for G.U.N, he presumably lives with both Rouge and Omega since they’re a team and are operatives for the same organization. Shadow has things that tie him down, things that make him human, he chose to live his life this way, to be more vulnerable, because this is what makes him happy, what gives him the drive to do what’s right, because this is what will do the most good. All of this to say, Shadow the Hedgehog did a lot of good for his character, just as the terrible localization did a ton of bad for his character, which we still haven’t fully recovered from. 06 however is where his character peaked, it was all downhill from there. I only hope the 3rd movie gets his character right, and if so, maybe it will help bring back the Shadow we love in much the same way movie 2 helped bring back Knuckles’ character. Movie 3 might just be my most anticipated movie ever, it’s about my favorite video game, how can I not be excited? Just another 8 months to wait ladies and gentlemen. Oh and Sonic x Shadow Generations is also something to look forward to, I hope the Shadow stuff is good. Especially the writing, this’ll be the first time we see how they’re going to be treating his character in this new era we’re in. I hope the level choices are good too, and the rumored Heroes remake will be interesting. Considering it ran on the Renderware engine, one which hasn’t been supported by the company which both made and owns it in decades. I just hope it doesn’t turn out like the Colors “remaster” or hell the GTA Trilogy “Definitive Edition” since those games also originally ran on the Renderware engine. And they were ported to Unreal just like the rumored Heroes remake will be. I just hope they don’t mess this up, especially knowing their track record, I mean the same applies to the Generations remaster, though that one shouldn’t, emphasis on the shouldn’t in that sentence, it *shouldn’t* be an issue since it’s already running on the Hedgehog Engine 1, either port it over to 2, or leave it as is since it runs fine on modern hardware. I hope they restore the original lighting that Unleashed had and Generations disabled for performance since that isn’t a concern anymore. Anyway I’m excited for that, thanks if you read this far, please do let me know your thoughts on any of this. Oh and to the people who might levy criticism at me along the lines of “longman bad” if reading something that’s long is an issue for you, then just don’t read it. god....i will never forget playing this level for the first time. I just jamming THE FUCK out to this while the sun would shine juuust right to where you could see the sun rays in the room. i stayed a decent amount of time trying to figure this level out, but at least i had a pretty good time

@@ryhankhanage Given they have been announcing everything else and it's the only thing that isn't released yet, I'm just being logical. If they had more to give, they wouldn't release the Shibuya level alone, just like that.
I like how it's upbeat and positive and yet still exciting. Much like Metallic Madness Good Future, it's telling you you're on the right track to the best ending but there's still one more challenge ahead.

"If there’s one thing this game did right, it’s the fantastic parallels between [G.U.N. Fortress] and Final Haunt (the final Pure Hero mission).
Both of them have pretty slow, relaxed themes. At least, considering what you’d expect from fast-paced, violent final levels. But it represents the fact that there is no more inner conflict within Shadow. His mind is fully made up. He knows where his heart is.
The difference is, in Final Haunt, Shadow knows who he is. He’s found what he was after. In GUN Fortress, he’s lost everything. What was once Shadow is now a broken, angry shell. But his mind is still made up. He’s found inner peace either way. Except in this case, he lost his identity to do so. In Final Haunt, he finds it. And the music reflects this.
GUN Fortress is somber. Shadow, or whatever is left of him, has taken everything away from the humans: their families, their lives, their hope, and he doesn’t realise he’s lost all of that as well. Because he’s at peace.
Final Haunt is upbeat. Shadow has discovered who he is. His mind is made up, and he’s going to fulfill his best friend’s dying wish. He can finally put the past behind him and move on. Because he’s at peace."

I love the confidence that radiates from this track. Like you and your buddy Sonic have repelled the invasion and boldly rush towards the inner sanctum of their base, chill vibes reflecting your own confidence in your moral cause, and you get to take in the fascinating alien atmosphere while you send these creatures back where they came.

In fact, I can imagine President, Eggman and Sonic dancing to this in the background while Shadow chases Black Doom.
Contrast that with the theme of G.U.N. Fortress which basically says "Humanity is doomed, the deed is done, this is just clean-up"

For being the most chaotic and apocalyptic stage in the game... the song sounds really chill and funky and even carefree?
Shadow feels alive here, and closer to retaining his memories and promise to Maria in this context (at least for the Pure Hero/Hero ending). He feels at peace and is happy with his decisions cos he's found his identity once again. It's similar with the GUN Fortress song except the opposite for his identity, which in that case he has lost in order to get himself inner peace (again for the Pure Dark/Dark ending).

Westopolis is the Most Chaotic.
You've just started the game and have no idea what's going on. All you see is Burning buildings, Aliens vs humans shooting eachother, Explosion, Shadow running past it all trying to help one side with black doom and sonic at your Ear telling you what to do.
Penny and Chase's rap cover of this was incredible. Shadow's soundtrack tends to get slept on but for how much white noise the game is, tracks like this go harder than you'd ever thought, including with vocals.

Forgettable? Shadow the Hedgehog's OST? I dunno man... maybe it's just nostalgia from when I first listened to this playlist, but this stuff is pretty soothing, for me...
I do think most of the rock-styled songs in this game didn't really mix well together. It's sort of mashed together and sounds like a bit of a car crash honestly.
Songs like this, GUN Fortress, The ARK and a few others are quite good though and I feel fit the context for their stories. When that's the case with the music I'm this game I can appreciate it so much more

I love the actual character and story of Shadow, but I guess just including the guns and stuff in the game was the issue for people, but the fact that he’s like a scientifically engineered weapon of a hedgehog is awesome. He’s badass.
@Stellamence I'd argue it's because of his amnesia that he's out of character. Like the whole point of the game is him trying to figure out who he is and why he was created.
He can't exactly act in-character when he doesn't even remember what motivated him to save the world in SA2. Plus after he does remember who he is in the True Ending he saves humanity again and lets go of his past.
The game was just a way to play off of his amnesia in Heroes and play around with different non-canonical outcomes for his character depending on how you played.

The very game it was playing off of already sorta tied up Shadow's amnesia plotline (he gives a little speech at the start of Egg Fleet saying how he doesn't care about his memories). And even ignoring that, this game poorly handled it with the web of routes with occasional bits of canon information in between (the worst being the confirmation that Shadow isn't an android ONLY if you spend way too long in the Devil Doom boss fight) leading to a whole bunch of endings that mean literally nothing when there's a True Ending to invalidate them all. It makes what should've been a straightforward game and plot extremely convoluted and confusing.
Also, his amnesia isn't an excuse for how he acts when he wasn't like this in Heroes. Not having memories didn't stop him from instinctively rescuing Rouge when Omega went berserk. Or bantering with Sonic. Or bantering with Rouge at the end of Team Dark's story. He was still the same Shadow in that game as he was in SA2 (minus the secretly planning to kill everyone) despite his amnesia. So that's not an excuse to make him extremely edgy, have him gunning down people, and spamming minor swears left and right. Shadow (the game) ruined Shadow's character, something 06 somehow managed to recover at the cost of ruining literally everything else.

Also it could be chalked up to him constantly thinking about the memory of Maria dying and having no idea who he is causing him to become jaded. I know in Heroes he said it doesn't matter if he's real or not, but it's not too far-fetched to think that maybe after an extended period of time he went back on that as not knowing who you are would make anyone want answers, even if they said it doesn't bother them.
Also I say again the game was just a way to play around with non-canon possibilities for him, fun little "well what if Shadow became evil" and other routes. Him gunning people down most likely didn't happen, and if it did it was only because Black Doom lied and manipulated him into doing so. Someone with amnesia who is desperate for answers would be very easy to manipulate.
Also 06 played off of Shadow's ending where he already vowed to put the past behind him and was then training to become a GUN Agent. The game did not ruin his character as much as people want to say it did.
Shadow's game was a mess and could have been much better I agree, but it didn't completely ruin his character. I do think a good amount of issues with the game are due to the bad translation, however, as in Japanese the game is way less tryhard.

Then turn to 06, where after dealing with the mess that was his game, he joins GUN, meets Mephiles, and gets hit again with the idea of people turning on him because they feared his power after learning what happened to him in the future. Yet that ultimately didn't bother him, and seemingly strengthened his resolve and bond with his friends. He didn't need a whole confusing game to get his crap together in 06, so I don't see why he'd need one to get himself together after Heroes.

And "fun" those routes may have is immediately killed by how unfun it is to get through them due to the god-forsaken mission system that, when it's not throwing you a bone with something simple like a "Get to the Goal" Neutral Mission, is asking you to kill a specific number of enemies or do some action a specific number of times when there are ONLY that many enemies/tasks in the level, no more, no less, forcing you to scour the level up and down to track down that one thing you missed somewhere. That combined with the raw number of endings (10) you have to get, only to have them all invalidated by the existence of Last Story, makes these "what-if" scenarios a bane more than a boon.

Shadow is the main reason for later Sonic games painting him as a brooding edgelord, Meta/Pontaff era being the biggest offender.

The Japanese script is an irrelevant point, as that isn't the script we got over here in the West and had to deal with. The same way the Forces JP script doesn't matter when the version WE got and had to the displeasure of seeing was the one where Sonic was apparently tortured for months leading up to his rescue where he clearly hasn't been tortured. Those are the versions we were given, and those are the ones the games will be judged by.

He didn't need it in 06 because he already came to terms with it in his own game. A lot, if not all, of what Shadow is in 06 was already set up in his own game.
The mission layout is more of an issue with the game design than the story, and I agree it could have been much better.
And he didn't really put it behind him in Heroes. He basically said that he didn't care if he was real or not that he was still Shadow. He never said the past didn't matter to him, and even if he did its possible for people to change their minds.
Personally I don't see how this game caused him to be an edgelord as he still has a decent character in it, I don't see why it's existence is why future games screwed up his character especially if he was done right in the game immediately after it.
Also all my point about the JP script was was that the game wasn't originally suppose to be certain ways but a'ight.
All I'll say is agree to disagree as I feel his character was still done right in his own game.

A heroic song that's grand and epic would devalue this moment. The casual vibe music let's us know being the hero of Earth is nothing new to him. This isn't the first time he's saved the world and it SURE isn't going to be the last. He now is with his friend Sonic

@@SuperSonic18969 if you NEED one of the ten endings to be canon and lead into The Last Way it would probably be the pure hero - dark ending. it's supposed to be a friendly scuffle between sonic and shadow before dealing with black doom. it helps to explain why black doom would still believe shadow would be willing to help him (especially if you played a path that included a few dark missions, my personal favorite being "The Legend of Shadow") since you block off the pathways to prevent any GUN forces from interfering. for shadow this is most likely done so he can have black doom for himself, although it's kinda hard to explain why all the other characters end up on the black comet anyways in The Last Way.
anyways the most likely scenario for the "canon story" of the game is essentially the same structure as expert mode (but obviously not set after the events of the main game) and ending with the last story. i say this because in the final battle eggman mentions that he (at some point) lied to shadow and told him he was an android, but this never happens in any path that leads to Final Haunt. although, the scene before Space Gadget does take place in Iron Jungle, which is where eggman claimed shadow was an android, so it could be assumed in any path that includes Space Gadget that shadow also went through Iron Jungle offscreen and was told the lie by eggman.
i can also see the dark ending to cosmic fall being a fitting canonical ending that leads into the last way

I find it weird to how chill this song was. It's one of the last levels, right? Shouldn't be more exciting or something? But I understand why. It feels like we're finally here. The FINAL Haunt.
As a Hero, no less. Since you at least needed more than one Hero mission to get there.
This point has been many times, but the reason for the change of pace is Shadow's current mentality at this point.
He's remembered his past and his promise to protect humanity, so now he goes to face Black Doom and save the world with this peace of mind. This is reflected in the OST: he's filled with hope, determination, and confidence in himself.
I've really slept on this ost. I just assumed it would be "blow your ears out" generic guitar noises, but no, this might actually be in my top ten, maybe even five sonic osts.
It was strangely cathodic going through Radical Highway Act 2 with this playing. This track was certainly stuck in my head for a couple of days, trying to get that S rank

I’ve used to play and get stuck in this stage while I was playing this game at my grandma’s house. Since this happened on February, this theme reminds me of my memories in school of Valentine’s Day, and the night time of this lovely winter.
Michael Jackson's Shout would definitely fit this level in other words this would basically work as a remix to Michael Jackson's previously unreleased song, Shout
Thought this was new. SnapCube's lyrics/vocals complement this so well it feels only slightly empty without those. I wonder how veteran fans felt about that fandub credits surprise.

Finally after everything we’re here, humanity… no Earth’s hero once scorned and betrayed has made up his mind. He knows who he is, he knows what he wants to do, whether he regained all of his memories or not is irrelevant, Shadow knows who he is now. He isn’t some weapon to be used, he isn’t some monster to be feared, no he’s whoever he chooses to be. And he has chosen to be the hero the Earth needed in her darkest hours. As he charges headfirst through this dark abyss that is the Black Comet, his mind is made up. No matter what Black Doom might try, it’s all in vain.
Shadow is humanity’s savior, he’s the Earth’s hero, the Ultimate Lifeform and even knowing the future, knowing the truth that Mephiles and Omega both illustrated during the events of 06, knowing that he will once more find himself being feared and hated by humanity didn’t change anything. Shadow isn’t acting on some promise he made long ago, he isn’t doing this because anyone told him to, no, he chose this. Shadow, for perhaps the first time in his life, has been given the opportunity to chose for himself the life he will lead, the kind of person he will be, and in doing so proved both Maria and Sonic right. He’s a hero through and through, he isn’t an anti-hero, he isn’t an antagonist, no, he’s a man of action who gets things done and was more than willing to bury the hatchet with the people who once wronged him, the people who stole everything from him 50 years ago.
He works for G.U.N because that’s what will help him do more good, he let go of his hate and rage, because seeking vengeance won’t make him happy. Now he has a family, people who will be there for him through thick and thin. He made a good friend, in many ways perhaps what some may call a best friend in Sonic. The two of them may butt heads on occasion, but never antagonistically, it’s always in a respectful way. Shadow is far more reserved, not closed off, but almost the exact opposite to Sonic and his devil may care attitude about things.
In many ways this whole level acts as a sort of look into Shadow as a person, how even in this darkness light still shines through. Shadow whether he likes it or not, lives a life ruled by Chaos, and no matter how hard he tries he can’t ever fully control it. Both him and Sonic are the same in that way, the only difference is that for the longest time Shadow kept fighting it, until he realized like Sonic did long before we met him, that fighting it is pointless, he can’t control it so why strain yourself attempting to? Sonic is freed by his acceptance that life is chaotic, free in that chaos to live as he pleases doing what he wants where he wants. Sonic isn’t tied down, he doesn’t have a place to call home, he just goes wherever the wind takes him.
Sonic and Shadow show the two different approaches one can take once accepting the chaos of life. Shadow, unlike Sonic, has a job working for G.U.N, he presumably lives with both Rouge and Omega since they’re a team and are operatives for the same organization. Shadow has things that tie him down, things that make him human, he chose to live his life this way, to be more vulnerable, because this is what makes him happy, what gives him the drive to do what’s right, because this is what will do the most good.
All of this to say, Shadow the Hedgehog did a lot of good for his character, just as the terrible localization did a ton of bad for his character, which we still haven’t fully recovered from. 06 however is where his character peaked, it was all downhill from there. I only hope the 3rd movie gets his character right, and if so, maybe it will help bring back the Shadow we love in much the same way movie 2 helped bring back Knuckles’ character.
Movie 3 might just be my most anticipated movie ever, it’s about my favorite video game, how can I not be excited? Just another 8 months to wait ladies and gentlemen. Oh and Sonic x Shadow Generations is also something to look forward to, I hope the Shadow stuff is good. Especially the writing, this’ll be the first time we see how they’re going to be treating his character in this new era we’re in. I hope the level choices are good too, and the rumored Heroes remake will be interesting.
Considering it ran on the Renderware engine, one which hasn’t been supported by the company which both made and owns it in decades. I just hope it doesn’t turn out like the Colors “remaster” or hell the GTA Trilogy “Definitive Edition” since those games also originally ran on the Renderware engine. And they were ported to Unreal just like the rumored Heroes remake will be. I just hope they don’t mess this up, especially knowing their track record, I mean the same applies to the Generations remaster, though that one shouldn’t, emphasis on the shouldn’t in that sentence, it *shouldn’t* be an issue since it’s already running on the Hedgehog Engine 1, either port it over to 2, or leave it as is since it runs fine on modern hardware. I hope they restore the original lighting that Unleashed had and Generations disabled for performance since that isn’t a concern anymore.
Anyway I’m excited for that, thanks if you read this far, please do let me know your thoughts on any of this. Oh and to the people who might levy criticism at me along the lines of “longman bad” if reading something that’s long is an issue for you, then just don’t read it.

god....i will never forget playing this level for the first time. I just jamming THE FUCK out to this while the sun would shine juuust right to where you could see the sun rays in the room. i stayed a decent amount of time trying to figure this level out, but at least i had a pretty good time
