    I think the lift you surfed goes about 7 m/s. This is how I reasoned:
    According to the "skyscrapercenter" site, the building has 49 above ground floors spanning 166.4 m. So the average height per floor is about 3.4 m. In the clip starting at 5:52, the bottom car of the lift travels from ground to floor 44 (as the top car landed at floor 45), meaning it traveled about 44*3.4 = ~150 m, in 28~29 seconds (let's say 28.5). Assuming 1 m/s^2 constant acceleration (seems fairly standard for skyscraper lifts?), the top speed hit would be almost exactly 7 m/s.

    There’s also a 30 story building from the 1960s known as the IOOS building which has lifts that travel at that same speed! Of course the lifts in that building were seemingly replaced by Otis in the late 1990s or early 2000s! :)

    That pointless individual 5500 also seems to be one of the few that feels very vanilla. Almost like it was added as an afterthought.

      It doesn't have the custom theming of the other passenger lifts. I am still confused why people need a dedicated lift to go between floors -2 and 4.

    do you surf the lifts during office hours or when everybody has gone home?
    do you need to get permission to surf them or do you just do it?

      "Do you surf the lifts during office hours or when everybody has gone home?"
      The busier the building is the better. You would be spotted very quickly if there were not many people about. Also I would not want to be on top the lift going all the way down to the lobby not knowing when the lift would be called back up again.
      "Do you need to get permission to surf them or do you just do it?"
      You can not get permission to surf a lift at full speed. Not even the lift engineers are allowed to do this (although they most likely still do). Even without full speed, nobody in a posh tower like this would be able to give permission.

      In terms of just smoothness (without any other factors) Mitsubishi is the best. They are famous for how little vibration they make. Mitsubishi lifts often feel slower than they actually are due to their smoothness.

    The only other company that did double decker setups like that is thyssenkrupp with their twin lift system

    • @benolifts
      @benolifts  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      All of the major manufactures build double deck lifts, including Otis, Kone, Schindler, ThyssenKrupp and Mitsubishi.
      The ThyssenKrupp twin is very different and only built by ThyssenKrupp due to their patent, which very much limits how many paces will install one, as most building owners in the UK avoid ThyssenKrupp as their logics at hard for other companies to maintain, and their lifts are not very reliable.

    How do you get in/ out? Im guessing the lift doesnt go full speed when/if you are using the buttons on the top. It has to be called from outside, right?
    Can you stop it (lockout) to get out and start it again? Or just home no one calls at that time?

    • @benolifts
      @benolifts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The actions I took with these lifts is due to my level of experience and skill lift surfing and I would not recommend that anyone copies some of the more extreme things I do with lifts.
      I got on the lift by disconnecting safety at the right moment. I sent the lift down and timed the moment of when to stop the lift. To make this more complex I had to identify which lift car I was sending down (upper or lower car). Then once I was on the lift the Schindler Miconic logic continues its journey without having to refind position. To get off the lift I waited for it to depart a floor in the downwards direction, but only if nobody had just got out the lift (as they would see me), then I grabbed a roller as it went past as the lift departed the floor. With the very fast speed and acceleration this was a dodgy thing to do. I did not put the lifts into inspection as that may alert security.

      @@benolifts thanks for your response. Very insightful. I don't plan on doing this myself, but I find this niche (lift surfing) interesting and love your videos.
      Interesting process. So it's all good timing. As I understand "breaking safety" stops the lift immediately. You use this to get on and time it right to get off again. I see how this requires skill and experience with the various logics to know how it will behave.
      And dodging security is another challenge on top of that :)

    You should get a 360° one day. That would be cool

    • @benolifts
      @benolifts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I had a 360 camera, and I wasn't impressed with the results. The original camera quality wasn't too bad, but the footage had to be encoded so many times by the time it ends up on youtube it has deteriorated. The camera required propriety software to re-encode the video after recording, then vegas rendering re-encodes it, then TH-cam re-encodes it. Also the amount of time having to get each video clip set up correctly was a pain. Then once on youtube, the video player's view point is very zoomed in, which makes the video horrid to watch and navigate. 360 videos are best viewed where the user is seeing 180 degrees (so about 50% of the video) at any one time. This allows the viewer to quickly move to where the action is happening and not miss much. But TH-cam's 360 video playback only shows around 25% of the video. This means the user has to click a lot more to find the interesting angle to view the video. Also TH-cam does not have a good bitrate for 360. With how high the resolution is, and with how zoomed in it is, the low quality bitrate is very noticeable and ruins the 360 experience. I feel that 360 video is not get developed enough for me just yet.
