A pinhole-sized permanent portal to the plane of fire as an ecology feature would be like a nursery log in a forest: home to all manner of problematic species.
Having a bunch of firedrakes around would also provide an excellent alarm system for fire giants, thanks to the inevitable commotion caused when an intruder shows up.
TH-cam didn't tell me this was uploaded yesterday. Gonna enjoy this video more tiny dragons means more minions for bigger dragon plots. Also just wider variety for dungeon inhabitants
These are always a giggle. I placed a goblin tribe, the Drakefriend goblins, in the northern Goblin Marches where they move up into the mountains in a game once. The goblins were half-domesticating and half-serving the drakes, but it was hard to tell which. The one thing my players figured out was that if you saw goblins with soot-covered weapons or armors, it was best to avoid a confrontation, because they either had containers of drake blood or there was a nest of friendly fire drakes nearby. The chief of that tribe had a Pipes of the Sewers that he used to keep a trio of fire drakes well-fed, which gave him a good supply of the blood that he milked from the trio so they didn’t spontaneously combust. Attacking him in his home was a horrible idea, because the trio of fire drakes were just smart enough to know that they would lose their free meals if he was killed. Magic item + clever gobbo + semi-intelligent fire drake makes for a unique encounter that can grow into a big chunk of a wider campaign. I love these things for what they are.
Great creature, i bet a fire giant would have some kept around as guard dogs. Amazing video, AJ. Also, is there any part for the firedrake used for potions or other alchemical creations?
Their blood (technically an ichor) is used for a wide variety of pyro effects and can be used in place of red dragon blood for certain rituals and the creation of healing potions for dragons, in their alchemical science... dragons are masters of many kinds of magic, they also create their own magic items.. not much detail is mentioned in the published lore, but its wide open to being adapted into your campaign and world building narratives (which I highly encourage you to take full advantage of)... imagine Kobolds hunting them in an effort to create an alchemical elixir to restore a very old or diseased dragon master, that has all sorts of narrative possibilities!
@@AJPickett Both Firedrake and LeDragon don't care about the poor kolbalds at all. Just exploiting them tsk tsk tsk. Need better representation for dragonkin.
I love the art with these your pin or text skills are fantastic. I had a homebrew I created for my players earlier and I'd not gotten to introduce it yet so I've modified it to better match yours. One Mechanic I wish they would reintroduce is the number encountered I feel if they would put that back the CR mechanic would work better I don't see one of these as a CR2 threat but a pair for sure 8 would be a bad day for some 2nd level characters. Oh question when you say the speak with a screechy voice are they supposed to speak draconic or common in a screechy voice or they speak in screeches? Thanks again for the video!
He has 8 children, most of his boys are prime gamer age now, he can run two D&D groups just with his own offspring... if I were him, "Hey boys, merry christmas, I bought you a games company" would be exactly what I would do.
Thanks AJ

2:39 well now I imagine a dragon born lady carrying one of these fellows in their purse like a tiny chihuahua
That's a big hand bag!
@@AJPickett it's a bag of holding as all lady's purses are

who says they're not?

Bard: Can I seduce them?
Well I think it was a little bit frightening... but they did it with expert timing!
Woo-cha!
5:42 finally an answer to those annoying seagulls
So there kinda like flying horny toads (a tiny southwestern lizard 🦎 that shoots blood out of there eyes when threatened) but with fire blood 😂🔥
Yeah, pretty much.
Wow I love the artwork how do I get that artwork
I'm happy to send you the art used, my contact details are in the video description.
You're Fired, Drake. I like Kendrick Ledragon better.
Fired out of a canon one would hope.

They speak basic draconic in a screeching voice.
Let's go
Them spraying their blood reminds me of the way a horned toad will spray blood from its eyes if its threatened

I wish i could do that lol 😂

Congrats but now you have to enter the dungeon first without hirelings. Good luck Aj has probably stocked it with some nasty stuff
