Bon's Burgers was supposed to be a magical place full of fun and excitement, until people started to go missing. Late one night, loud music is heard blaring from the restaurant, and something isn't quite right with the animatronics.
Produced by Chilean filmmaker @thewaltenfiles and inspired by Scott Cawthon's Five Nights at Freddy's series, The Walten Files is an analog-horror web series chronicling the mysterious events surrounding Bon's Burgers and the associated animatronic characters.
The series also serves as a love-letter to analog horror; there are countless references and homages embedded within. I was able to locate callbacks to Local58, FNAF VHS, Gemini Home Entertainment, and more!
I've wanted to make this video for MONTHS. The Walten Files is an INCREDIBLY dense series and it means a lot to me; I really wanted to make sure I could get this one right. However, I'm really proud of my recent retrospective on @Battington's FNAF VHS series, and people seemed to really enjoy it, so I finally mustered up the confidence to bite the bullet and make a Walten Files video.
This isn't an analysis or a theory video; it's just a retrospective. Honestly, putting out Walten Files theories is quite intimidating - the fanbase can be very, very passionate, and I fear that I might upset some die-hard fans who don't necessarily agree with my interpretation.

The TTS at 11:00 uses weird pronouns ("...hoping that _HIS_ beloved husband..." "I know where _SHE_ is."), but I presume this is a mistake. I used both genders; why not?

maybe its just me but perhaps jack (i think thats the character they were talking about, correct me if im wrong) uses he/she pronouns and thats martins way of hinting at that? thats just my hunch anyways.

The reason the series is so scary is because some charracters have balls of steel like i would not go near anywhere abandones and there are people in the series who go there in the midle of the night or go the for multiple days and then to add to that even touch some creepy looking rotten animatronics and to add to that one of them goes to a place that is very very bad looking and doesn't turn back immediatly being like oh fuck this shit i'm gonna go home and hide under my blanket i can't play a normal horror game out of fear yet there is someone who plays it and continues after seeing dead relatives as charracters in the game in mangled and glitched forms i would quit at the first notable glitch

I'd like to quickly point something out that someone had mentioned on a different video. You can hear faint breathing during the burial of the children, implying that they were still alive when buried and had survived the car crash, Felix was just too drunk to notice and buried them alive.
This series holds a really special place in my heart, it's what comforted me through vet visits for my late cat. Despite knowing the story like the back of my hand, I still like watching new videos that show up on my fyp. It's been a year since getting into it and I'm still fixated on it.

I'd just like to add something, one of my fav moments in analogue horror comes from this series it has to do with the game, basically at the start Sophie spells her name incorrectly but by the time we get sha asking if she's still beautiful, sha calls Sophie by her name

I think the reason why martin inclued the obituary is because it gives a reasonable explanation to jack posessing the bon suit. maybe he was stuffed in there by felix after they had a fight?

Fun Fact for those who don't know:
Animatronics (like Chuck E Cheese, or the Rock-afire Explosion) are controlled by an air compressor, and air hoses that are connected to pneumatic cylinders inside the mech. Also, It was called a "Mech" before Scott called dubbed it as an "Endoskeleton".
Unrelated: Watching scary movies you were scared of as a child is kind of interesting. Because like many other things, it can lead up to who you are as a person in the future. Like picking up on some of the witty personality traits from Chucky.
I was Terrified of Chucky when I was little, but was somehow completely enamoured with Coraline.

This reminds me a lot of dang the lore is def unique but stuffing bodies in animatronics a restaurant with creepy robots checkered floors a character shoved to the side
I don't know why but out of any of the missing person i feel HORRIBLE for Rosie- she seemed like a genuinely good person especially since she's the only love one we see ACTUALLY searching for a missing person it probably means that Rosie genuinely loved Jack
I really like the art/animation style of the Walten Files, feels like cardboard cutouts on 3d surface while still feeling realistic in its own weird way
Whether that was intentional or not is probably something I will never know but it's still really cool

To be honest, i remember watching them on my old laptop and be TERRIFIED of the series.
The coolest horror series.
In my opinion, The Walten Files is indeed a good series.
However, it focuses too much on doing disturbing imagery. It’s not anything bad, but it feels like it’s just thrown alot. Even at Bunnyfarm, let’s all admit, the last few jumpscares were kinda unescessary.
However, it’s a good series. I can’t wait for TWF4
interesting take bunny farm did feel like a lore dump but it was still cool
Remember that Martin didn't expect the series to blow up the way it did; _nobody_ expects that. I think this is part of why TWF4 has taken so long - Martin probably wants to take his time and really top everything prior with it.
That said, at the same time, Bunnyfarm has the scariest moment in the series _("Am I still beautiful, Sophie?")._

Idk man I absolutely love the walten files and other vhs horror series, I don’t know how else to put it but the overwhelming amount of tension and information is weirdly calming
@@dc10cargodoor I understand the point you’re making. But something Martin should do (or at least in my opinion) is make it more on sound. He should kind of stop with the jumpscares (not entirely, just a little), and instead focus more on the tension that the sound is making. For Example: When a door opens on it’s own, we hear the music get more twisted and wierd. However, when we expect a jumpscare the most, nothing happens. Idk, just a thought. But I understand.
Honestly i feel respect for people who like this. I love horror stuff and this scares the ever loving shit out of me. Dont get me wrong, it is cool and awesome, but so bone chilling that the first time I saw brian's mangles face, I couldnt go in the dark alone without being timid and terrified

The Walten Files is my favorite horror analog video. This series got me hooked and I can’t wait for more updates.

@@theftking Martin said that he wanted to quit after the third video due to burnout and not being sure where to go in the future. In which he did the music video and the website arg to explain the rest of the lore. He then shortly deleted the arg because he decided to come back and make this a full series. That’s why episode 4 has taken so long because it wasn’t supposed to happen + he did say a lot more voice acting is included

I draw body horror and gore and just from personal experience I don’t get scared of my own works because I’m there to see it when it is basically an innocent looking person, then I add the gore. It’s like putting on your own scary Halloween makeup. You don’t get scared but everyone else does. ^^

This video is probably my favorite TWF video. You've got an awesome inflection, perfect voice for this kind of story, and you let the videos speak for themselves instead of talking over them often

It's not at all FNaF related, but if you like analog horror maybe you should do a video on The Mandella Catalogue. It's a phenomenal series and my personal favorite piece of horror on youtube.
I've considered it, I just doubt I could make a better video than Wendigoon already did. While other TH-camrs more-talented than I have covered _The Walten Files_ (Nexpo comes to mind), I still felt like I was adding my unique twist. I'm not sure if a Mandela Catalogue video would really be anything more than a watered-down video-essay version of Wendigoon's.

The Walter files is such a good series! Unfortunately, and I don’t know why but the distorted faces I just can’t look at. I don’t know why, but they just make me either uncomfortable or scared. I continuously have to cover the faces with my hand to make me be at ease

When I first watched the Walten Files, the first and second parts of the series creeped me out a fair bit, but beyond that it wasn't all that scary to me.
But, Bunnyfarm...
Hahaha hooooly shit. I couldn't fucken _move_ for like 15 minutes after the video ended. That's how terrified I was, watching that shit at like 3am, alone in the dark. It was so messed up in so many ways. I can't wait to see more! Also in case anyone new to the series is reading this, definitely check out Boozoo's Ghosts and The Mysterious House. While they aren't canon to the main series, they ARE scary af and are really well done!
Here's the thing though. Sophie would've been around 13 or 14 at the time that Bon's first opened. I could see Jack hiring her to work in the kitchen or as janitorial staff or bussing tables or something, but I'm fairly certain that she wouldn't have been a security guard. The only time that makes sense would have been during the relocate project, r years later, but that would've been within a year of BunnyFarm. Is her memory loss long term or short term or both? We only really see her having trouble remembering stuff from several years in the past, so it's unclear.
If Bon's sleepover is to be believed, Sophie encountered Bon and somehow survived, so what's going on with that? It's a lot to think about and try to decipher

I think the best three scenes from 1-3 are banny trapped in the basement, rosemary's death in bunnfarm, and bon singing daisybell.

This is my first time watching one of your streams and it's very entertaining can't wait to see the video when it comes out
my theory: ok, first I need to inform you that Walten Files was actually a canceled game before it was a series, the game was called Welcome To Bons Burgers, in this game, the animatronics weren't haunted, but were actually being remotely controlled by the protagonist, I think Jack is alive and not so well, I think Felix is remotely controlling Bon, Bon is the ONLY animatronic that has killed ppl who saw too much, henceforth making Felix look like the good guy
I'm aware of the series origins as a fangame, and I even have a copy of Martin's other game That's a very interesting theory; remote controlling Bon. Why would Jack kill his wife Rosemary then? She hadn't seen anything as far as I know...

I think Felix is trying to help the Dorseys out of his guilt. Even if they became horrifying animatronics.

Yes! _Bon's Burger's_ was going to be a fangame, and he even released _Night of the Living Robot,_ which was meant to be a teaser-game. Admittedly, it wasn't very good; I think Martin found his calling as a filmmaker, not a game developer heh.
sophie is the one drawing the red kids, she actually notices them during the sha game but doesn't say it, the reason why the bear doesn't respond to "who are you" is likely becuz sophie never met the bear, the bear is not a part of her memories therefore he can't answer that question

I highly doubt Sophie worked there as an 11-14 year old. It is far more likely that she is wearing the uniform for the hotel it is confirmed that she works at
Interesting! That's plausible, though did it confirm she _works_ at the hotel? I believe the episode says she's _living there_ at the time, but I wasn't sure she was an employee.
@@theftking plus the picture shows the withered bon behind her. And in the same video it shows that bon has escaped after killing Brian. It would make sense that he would be coming after Sophie. Probably shortly after the whole bunny farm thing.
Just to dumbly pinpoint a couple of things: the white bear is Memory Bear, not Rocket the rabbit. Sophie's sprite stumbled across it before the game crashed; while Memory Bear is theorized to be (partially or fully) Jack Walten.
Also, knowing that the Files are stuff that already happened and are seeing the light thanks to Anthony, the epitaph of the children could've been written after it was publicly known and showed what happened around Bon's Burger
Y'know I never realized that! Thanks for the heads up. It's kinda cruel to have two similar-looking gray characters, neither of whom get much screentime, especially in a series with as much analog distortion as TWF.
Still, it's not _nearly_ as evil as Scott including multiple characters with _the same name_ in the FNAF franchises. That was just cruel, lol.
If I have any criticism of TWF, it's that there are too many characters. I feel like the memory bear could've just been Rocket and it'd have been just as clear, but maybe not!
There's all the findjackwalten stuff, but I wanted to try and do a synopsis of the videos alone. Going beyond that would require theorizing and I just don't have any compelling Walten Files theory. I have little idea as to where things are going
@@theftking Hey! At least we only have 2 gray characters (which I suppose both represents faded memories because of the color itself) instead of 7273663 lmao. And Memory Bear and Rocket represents two different things (MB still to be resolved, but as I stated before people thinks it's actually Jack because of his smile) for Sophie so it makes sense Martin didn't use the latter to remember her siblings
I've seen the findjackwalten stuff and I don't have an actual theory either, more than what we're seeing are stuff that's been partially solved in-world (at least judging by the epitaph of Ed & Molly it's quite fair to suppose some points are public knowledge - except everything that happened to the Walten family and maybe Felix (imagine how fucked up would be if he became Bon himself) as well) and that's just coming out for everybody else more recently because of the internet itself, and because it's Anthony posting the footages he goes finding during the investigation

Wait... The Walten Files are officially over? I mean, maybe FNaF has set me up to expect more length out of haunted animatronics, but as absolutely amazing as I find it, there seems to be no resolution to its plot. Sure, we discover some of the hows and whys of the hauntings, but things like how Sophie deals with the information she uncovers, or what happens to the haunted animatroncs is left completely unanswered. I'm all for ambiguity in storytelling, but this just feels like an open hole that was designed to be filled eventually.

Okay, Bunnyfarm by far is the most f***** up in the trilogy thus far. Sophie is literally playing a haunted/possessed video game in which the dead victims of the past installments inhabit the game's programming some how. The game's universe kinda becomes their afterlife in a figure of speech.
It's literally an example of the NES Godzilla Creepypasta or Every Copy of Super Mario 64 Is Personalized.
And then Sophie's dead mother is trying to communicate with her daughter in the living to see if she acknowledges her presence and later she finds out of all the memories she has been suppressing!?
I mean why was she working at Bob's Burgers when it opened? Why couldn't the father do something instead of having his friend take care of the kids? I hear that it was the friend who murdered Sophie's father causing these events to happen. What kind of sick dumb narrative is that?
I love how the files sometimes have a few seconds of E.A.T.E.O.T and A.E.B.B.T.W music in them, like 22:50, you can hear B3 playing for a second, i feel like it does that to show how old those tapes are

if i have to be honest it is really dumb to send a caretaker alone at night in the middle of the woods alone in the bone chilling k-9 facility trying to activate an animatronic. ALONE at Night at K-9 i would of died if i got asked to go there.
